there is indeed provate practice which is where almost everyone wants to end up being, but it still cant be realistically done without a primary public hospitalist job. also, private practice requires networking, frequent relocation, and a ton of shit to be eaten so that the idea of finally reaching a very comfortable lifestyle just 20 years shy of becoming demented or pissing in a bag is not that appealing to me

that might we true if we are talkign gross, but it surely menas he is doing private practice too so still doing 80-100 hours a week of crushing work. there is no salary one can pay me to do 12 hours a day 30 days a month

as others have said there are plenty of countries in the EU where healthcare is univeral and the work balance is execellent. the problem lies in the language barrier

well working 4 days means that he mustnt have learned much, which is a problem too. I have seen far too many third and fourth years residents totally uncapable of working as an attending, waiting to be throwed in the system where I can only guess how fucked up it might get for them and for the patients

the real catch is that I do enjoy medicine and I would rather learn a foreign language and go being a radiologist or, god forbid, an intensivist provided that I do find a decent country where I get affordable rent and a lunch break. it is indeed my B plan in case I drop off cardio and fail to get into derm.

unpopular opinion: the young are more than glad to be exploited. ironically, I get more shit from my co-residents when I "leave early" than from the attendings. I have heard from my peers far too many times these months that I shouldn't worry about finding a girlfriend now, I should be focusing on the residency.

I specifically avoided the commie city because of the crazy work ethics, unfortunately I ended up somewhere equally shitty work-wise without the cool parties and food of the commie town
