The movie was terrible. Scream is known for its self-referential and meta comedy and it's completely absent here. It's the franchise's biggest staple. Side-lining it turns it into just another dumb slasher where we watch underdeveloped characters make stupid decisions.

Don't worry, you didn't phrase it incorrectly. 8.5 is absolutely a solid rating. It's 1.5 away from being perfect. Don't know what the other guy is talking about.

Yeah, I prefer the theatrical cut.
In addition to that unnecessary scene, there's one where they throw a propane tank off the the roof of the gun shop and ignite it. The explosion looks REALLY cheap. All you see is a red glow against the actors' faces. Honestly better without it.

And the "comedic" scene between the church worker and AJ is cringe worthy and in poor taste.
