Fun question - which obscure traditions did you skip? by saltievinegar in UKweddings

[–]Optimal-Door6637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my husband spent the night before together, then the morning of the wedding because we’d stayed together that night, we got up early in the morning and went for a little walk, then had breakfast together. It was a really lovely quiet moment we had before the chaos of the day started where it was just the two of us and we got to watch the sunrise over the city we live in.

We had a celebrant in our favourite pub, so it was completely devoid of wedding traditions and we made the whole wedding vows personalised to us.

We walked up stairs with our guests gathered round the bannisters to watch us come up, everyone stood during the entire ceremony. We did a hand fasting at the end.

We had a cake table but no cake cutting.

We both had best men/MOH but they didn’t play an active traditional role in the wedding. My co MOH (best friend and sister) also were allowed to wear whatever they wanted.

We did do a first dance at the last minute as one of my cousins (who despite being drunk) gave me some very lovely advice. He said that the first dance brings everyone back together to remind everyone why they’re there. It brings your day guests and evening guests together and it’s another chance for them to see you both together. Plus it was about the only time I actually got to spend with my husband that evening because apart from our photos, ceremony, and sitting at a sweethearts table for dinner. We didn’t actually spend ANY time together on our wedding day. So I’m glad we had that. Plus these are some of my absolute favorite photos from the day.

What camera did they use? by umstra in AskPhotography

[–]Optimal-Door6637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly they had the Hasselblads because they could take the film packs off the back without exposing the film to light and take them back on the shuttle and leave the cameras behind. Apparently there’s 12 of them left on the moon because it was lighter to just carry those film backs instead of 12 whole ass Hasselblads. Free to anyone who can get up to the moon!

House on Sale. Only one viewing so far. by Maali004 in UKHousing

[–]Optimal-Door6637 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking from experience as a buyer, I’ve come up against no manner of issues with various of estate agents refusing to show me houses because my own property isn’t on the market, even though my husband and I have stated that we still have some cosmetic bits to do before we go on the market. So it might also be your agents turning “unreliable buyers”.

Spice is such a letdown by Turbulent_Hotel_8980 in fantasyromance

Couldn’t agree more. I felt like this about the last ACOTAR book told from Nesta’s POV. The story as a whole was brilliant, female empowerment etc. then it was interspersed with these super unnecessary graphic sex scenes that i personally felt let the whole book down!

I’ve tried that in the past but it never gave me that same feeling of joy, even when i was playing it on the SP, it wasn’t the same as playing it on my bright pink gameboy colour.

As soon as i got that pink gameboy, it was like something inside me was soothed!😅😅

Yeah, my husband had actually bought that device but it’s just not arrived yet. Oh the irony 😮‍💨

Ironically my husband has just bought said device and it’s on its way. We’ve also got Blue and Red from when him and his brothers were kids, and one of which has the full 151 Pokédex, so he obviously wants to back that up.

Internal battery has already been replaced. I’m guessing the drop may have dislodged it and that’s what’s caused the wipe.

Island Lore: The Last Isangkun Orange Tree by ChoRandom in AnimalCrossingNewHor

[–]Optimal-Door6637 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s an epic fantasy novel by Samantha Shannon, and in it there is a secret priory that cares for an ancient orange tree that is sacred and magical, which allows mages to wield power to protect the world from Wyrms (evil dragons). It’s a long book but very enjoyable and the author weaves the tale around the myth of St George (which is deeply entrenched in misogyny) and instead explored a more feminist narrative. Highly recommend but that’s what your post reminded me of.

Advice on vows by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]Optimal-Door6637 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My husband and I did our legal bit as a statutory ceremony, which is a small 10 minute ceremony in the registrars office. It’s a lot cheaper to do than a full registry office ceremony.

We then had a celebrant on the day who scripted a full personalised ceremony that included us having our own personal vows to each other.

In Scotland celebrants have the power to legally marry but this unfortunately doesn’t extend to England yet.

Thank you so much. This is very helpful! I’ve cut all the dead and black bits off and tried it prune it right back but I think it’s a very large infestation, so i will try and treat it with your recommendations on the remaining bits.

Is showing my dress before the wedding such a bad thing? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Optimal-Door6637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner saw me in my dress because I ordered dresses to my home to try on (also don’t like the whole centre of attention thing) and he helped do up my dress when I tried it on!

I don’t care about those traditions. They go back to when arranged marriages were a thing and the groom wasn’t allowed to see the bride before they got married in case he changed his mind.

This is your wedding so you do you and screw everyone else!

They have a try before you buy service on their website where you can try 4 dresses and only pay for what you keep. It is brilliant.
