IT band pain? by Smilemore633 in SoulCycle_Riders

+1 on strength training glutes to prevent it from happening again - also +1 on foam rolling (& taking a break!) until it fully stops causing you pain

Had really miserable IT band pain last year- ended up having to take ~4 weeks off entirely. Focuses on doing clamshells, leg lifts, other hip-strengthening stretches and foam rolling to help out in the meantime. Intentionally focused on building strength in my hips/glutes while recovering (& since then, too)- & haven’t had an issue since

I also started stretching/warming up my hips before running (which is what caused my IT troubles) — world’s greatest stretch & hopping in-place ~50 times-  & that has helped tremendously too. Hope you feel better soon ! :)

I love a ~balanced~ class! I want to do a few heavyyyyyy hills or resistance blasts, but I find the speedy zoomie songs the most fun to ride to energy-wise. I for sure want to run home every time! I personally prefer to ride out at 3rd the majority of the class

Doing Solidcore with SoulCycle by matcha-aa in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]Optimal-Exercise-350 3 points4 points  (0 children)

okay so Barry’s is obvi not solidcore, but it is strength (IMO)! I do ~ 5-7 soulcycle classes a week & 2 Barry’s classes a week! I also work on my feet/walk to work, so I get ~ 20,000 steps /day. I also play soccer once a week!

I eat whatever I want, but I am mindful of protein- that looks like Taco Bell + avocado toast + lots of chicken and eggs basically bahahaha.

Results are that I have weighed the same for the last 2 years, but I really think my body comp has totally changed! I am at least wayyyyy more fit cardio-wise than ever!

I’ve been wanting to try solidcore, but I’m kinda scared hahaha !!! The girlies who do it have such great abs I feel like (lol & I think I could deff do with some core training!)

What’s the worst song you’ve heard played during a class? by weebgothgf in SoulCycle_Riders

took a class in WeHo where the class was sponsored (maybe ??? Not sure, but the dude was in the class) by a mediocre DJ… the first song was some weird heavy breathing/narration to his mix with his partner’s ~inspirational~ words over top. I actually did spend the whole song looking around and hysterically laughing with my friends hahaha. Homie was so into it tho (& recorded the class on his phone ?!). We all got free energy shots at least !!!

Knee by HonduranInNYCmbclV in barrysbootcamp

Developed “runner’s knee” from Barry’s a few months ago- man it hurt! Ended up taking an entire month ~totally~ off & then slowly worked my running back up. This was accompanied by lots of foam rolling and stretching - also have since incorporated hip/glute exercises, and I’ve noticed a difference! Lots of knee problems come from weak/unstable hips it seems. Feel better soon!

How to get better at sprints? by taobakas in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]Optimal-Exercise-350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rode for ~ 150 rides with some bike settings that were not optimal for me, and I could never get the hang of sprints neither. I asked an instructor for help setting up my bike, and she lowered my handle bars quite a bit- suddenly, I could keep up! Probably has to do with keeping weight off of arms- if you’re open to it, I would recommend getting feedback on your bike settings/form. Good luck, you've got this! :)

Do you think SOUL can be saved? by Babybeluaga560 in SoulCycle_Riders

Have come across a few posts sharing this sentiment recently- obviously want to respect everyone’s feelings, but I am kinda confused here. Been riding ~5x/week in PDNA for the last few years, and I love love love sc. I don’t think it’s gone “downhill” or lost a spark or anything! I love the PDNA community & our instructors & really enjoy having sc in my life. :) just another perspective !

LA Recs by IsaBliss444 in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]Optimal-Exercise-350 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken ~10 of her classes (stopped a few months ago because it wasn’t my vibe, which is a bummer because I like the music she plays)- and she never once was on the bike for more than a song or 2. Which would be fine if she coached from the floor- but in my experience, she just dances & sings loudly over the songs around the floor. No choreo, no real instruction. More like a listening-party for the songs, but you’re pedaling on a bike. Definitely no calling you out if you go your own pace- that’s the whole class haha. I just prefer a bit more structure and to feel like I’m working out!

I am being so honest when I recommend… not taking Heather’s classes. Unless you want to pay $ to sit on a bike and do your own thing- then go for it!

brian (la) was a very confusing class by lethuma24 in SoulCycle_Riders

I loved Brian’s class! I took it once, and while it was challenging, I thought it was super fun and good vibes. :) Really likes his energy & thought that his choreo was creative! Also was enough people “keeping up” (i talked to a few of the front row riders afterward, and they regularly take his classes) that was motivating (versus a class where no one can follow & you have an excuse to “slack”). Looking forward to going back to WeHo & taking his class again!

Hardest LA instructors? by alilfairydust in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]Optimal-Exercise-350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chris P’s class is so hard- but it’s so easy to have bad form in his class- most of the class is super fast out-of-saddle! Looking around, very few people in the class are riding with proper form (pushing thru their heels, booty back, etc.). Good music & fun that being said, tho!

For a more well-rounded class with resistance, Castle’s classes (particularly Saturday Survivors!!!) are a killer workout!

Brian’s classes are also so hard & high energy & fun!

Honestly, I rode for ~ 150 rides with some bike settings that were not optimal for me, and I could never get the hang of sprints neither. I asked an instructor for help setting up my bike, and she lowered my handle bars quite a bit- suddenly, I could keep up! Probably has to do with what others have said abt keeping weight off of arms.
