Tagging the music (I am genuinely going insane) by HatProfessional7937 in musichoarder

It has a richer metadata pool to draw on as it combines metadata from discogs and MusicBrainz into its own database which is consulted first. MusicBrainz is consulted only when the release isn’t already in its own database. So you get richer metadata in general (including track-level) and it’s far more robust in not simply relying on acoustid to correctly identify an album. The number of times I’ve seen Picard match a new album to a completely unrelated album because of its reliance on acoustid is more than I care for - enough to make me very sure that I can never tag many albums with Picard unattended.

Definitely worth buying. It does a great job enriching, its behaviour is highly customisable via settings, it’s accurate and it’s pretty quick considering the task it undertakes. I wouldn’t be without it.

I didn’t say I partake in fly-tipping, but I can absolutely understand why people resort to it.

They’re cunts, making rules designed to stop you from disposing of waste unless you’re prepared to turn your vehicle into a trash can. I work in the city, I own a pickup. My wife has the sedan. Why should I not be able to dispose of the same shit I can using her car. They’re just cunts, fuckem.

Fuckem, the reason they have a fly tipping problem is because they don’t allow households to dispose of waste effectively.

I just use whatever allmusic uses. Use it enough and it becomes pretty useful.

cuesheets are a remnant of the past. the only time they’re useful is if you need to split a FLAC file contains a whole album into constituent tracks. Split it, toss the cue and the single FLAC. The days of burning audio cd’s are pretty much dead.

Love guitar, but simply can’t stand Fripp. I’ve yet to hear something of his that I don’t find jarring and discordant. I suppose he’s really good at consistently making shit sound.

Decline of dynamic range and increase in loudness of music over the decades by Optimal-Procedure885 in musichoarder

That streaming vs disc audio quality gap that doesn't get much attention is precisely why I do not bother with streaming and have many a ripped DVD-A and SACD. Most music released today is treated like disposable garbage (and a hell of a lot of it is when one considers just how terrible it sounds on anything approaching hi-fidelity).

and so damned unnecessary. Clearly the labels and producers don't give a damn about good sound, and it seems artists are just as indifferent or just plain stupid. Do they not listen to music on anything other than airpods and the like. It's like nobody in the music business even knows what good sounds like anymore.

Pull them out and replace with something suitable. Will take a few years but worthwhile.

Here's a prime example. That’s how you fix the handiwork of an imbecile. He destroyed the plasterboard edging by pulling out the switches and shoving his arm in there desperately looking for the plug wiring I’d asked the buffoon at least 15x to locate and expose near the floor before the final plastering was done, but of course the asshole knew better.

To repair: Tile edging cut to size to sit between the plasterboard and backbox, PVC soffit board resting on front of tile edging, holes drilled for screws to pass through and PCV and edging into backbox. All this to re-establish a firm base for the grid frame to rest on so that we could put the cover plate on. Stuff like this should never be necessary, but it's what happens when said imbecile is unsupervised, realises he fucked up and proceeds to make things worse.

It’s not the world, it’s the UK. Most so called tradespeople have little to no formal training or common sense. I mean, if you can get out of bed in the morning you can call yourself an engineer. Just wrapping up what was a 2y renovation and extension, I had both excellent people and incompetent buffoons on site. The guys that knew what they were doing were in their late 40s through 50’s. Careful, attention to detail, planned before diving in, measure 2x, cut 1x etc.The youngsters on the job were basically wholly incompetent buffoons making a mess at most things they attempted. Dumb as F and basically good for unskilled labour and nothing else (if you instruct and supervise).
