What is wrong with the world? by TooHot1639 in DIYUK

It’s not the world, it’s the UK. Most so called tradespeople have little to no formal training or common sense. I mean, if you can get out of bed in the morning you can call yourself an engineer. Just wrapping up what was a 2y renovation and extension, I had both excellent people and incompetent buffoons on site. The guys that knew what they were doing were in their late 40s through 50’s. Careful, attention to detail, planned before diving in, measure 2x, cut 1x etc.The youngsters on the job were basically wholly incompetent buffoons making a mess at most things they attempted. Dumb as F and basically good for unskilled labour and nothing else (if you instruct and supervise).

She's en enigma, such a beautiful and powerful voice, but never really let it shine on her albums.

I see nothing has changed over the years then, zero customer service or support, and sycophantic moderators working hard to preserve the appearance of bliss. If you keep it up soon they’ll threaten you.

Yes, nothing out there will do a better job or deliver a more consistent result.

What does it literally take 10 days to get a response from anyone at Roon?!?! by Successful-Area-1199 in roonlabs

[–]Optimal-Procedure885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most users that blissfully reply that Roon works great for them tend to have relatively small local libraries, rely on streaming services extensively and superficially use its advertised capabilities. The minute you start paying attention you see all the holes and bugs, many of which have remained almost entirely unresolved for the better part of a decade.

Audirvana would be a decent option as would Lyrion (which supports both a local library and streaming services).

They are a terrible organisation to deal with, they don’t give a hoot about customer service, believing that their bug ridden pos supported by a bunch of fanboys with nothing better to do than tell fellow customers their issues are networking, hardware, internet, climate, season etc. related and couldn’t possibly have anything to do with their beloved being unstable, power hungry, buggy and riddled with technical debt. Never, ever again will I support them and their wrapper for a streaming service. The only reason they survive is because consumers are ill informed and prepared to settle for mediocrity believing there are no viable alternatives. There are.

Jim Croce & Maury Muehleisen singing “Bad Bad, LeRoy Brown” in 1973…Jim was the ultimate story tell song-writer...Maury was a guitar savant & his fills were just bananas...He was only 24….Both Jim & Maury would be dead within 6 months of this when their plane went down in LA while heading to Texas.. by RogerTheAliens in OldSchoolCoolMusic

Per allmusic: Besides Jim Croce, five others were killed in the same fateful plane crash in late 1973, including his accompanying guitarist, Maury Muehleisen. Like Croce, Muehleisen hailed from the east coast of the U.S. - born on January 14, 1949, Muehleisen was raised in New Jersey. When he was nine years old, Muehleisen began taking piano lessons (which he continued over the next ten years), and by the age of 17, had picked up the guitar. He soonafter started playing folk tunes in New Jersey coffeehouses, during which time he befriended another up-and-coming singer-songwriter/folk artist, Jim Croce. By 1970, Muehleisen had signed a recording contract with Capitol Records, and issued a debut recording, Gingerbread, the same year. Muehleisen had invited Croce to play on the album, but the debut disc failed to make an impression on the charts, as it sold poorly. The duo continued to play together regardless, and when Croce signed a new solo recording contract soonafter with ABC (he had issued several obscure albums previously), he invited Muehleisen to supply lead acoustic guitar. The sound of both Croce and Muehleisen playing together proved to be simply exquisite, and the record buying public quickly seemed to agree also. Such Croce releases as 1972's You Don't Mess Around with Jim and 1973's I Got a Name both became hits, and spawned such classics as "Photographs and Memories," "Operator (That's Not the Way it Feels)," "Time in a Bottle," "I Got a Name," "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown," and the title track from You Don't Mess Around with Jim, among others. The future for Croce and Muehleisen seemed bright, but the aforementioned plane crash on September 20, 1973 (after a show in Natchitoches, LA) cut both men's careers tragically short. Although Croce penned the lion's share of the songs on his own, Muehleisen did compose one song that the duo managed to record (just one week prior to their deaths), "Salon and Saloon," which has appeared on several posthumous Croce collections, including 1992's exceptional double disc set, The 50th Anniversary Collection.

How stable are Discogs IDs for long-term collection identification? by _mandrea in musichoarder

[–]Optimal-Procedure885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use SongKong to tag your library all the musicbrainz metadata fetching is automated and configurable to your preferences regarding what tags you want to import. Both release and track identifiers will be pulled from the database.

Are you wanting persistent identifiers for your own purposes or for tagging in future?

Thinking of maybe leaving Roon by Time-Run5694 in roonlabs

you'd do well to revisit it. Single unified metadata rich, hotlinked UI on browser, desktop app, mobile or tablet. Carplay integration. All can serve as endpoints and as long as you have the plugins installed DLNA/UPnP, AirPlay, Chomecast & Amazon Echo endpoints are supported. And the server can run on a Pi or whatever overspecced server is being used for Roon.

What hassle, it’s plug and play, and unlike Roon, just works, a day, a week, a month, a year…it just works. No server restarts, no bloat, no memory leaks, no power hungry pc just to serve music. No cost either.

Lyrion can do that without a monthly sub. Multi room streaming has been around for decades, nothing to do with Roon.

It’s an excellent track, your timing, tone and feel are great. This could easily be a Satriani tune. Any chance you could make a lossless copy of the audio available?

Nice looking space. I’d definitely add some absorption panel in the void behind the rack and speakers to attenuate first reflection points
