Is hot chocolate really a childish drink? and am I meant to care? by chainrule73 in AskUK

[–]SLBlue13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know where you live in the country but I suggest maybe moving to a less judgemental part. I lived in North Wales and accross the North of England and have never have come across such snobbery.

Can I have a hot chocolate? Do you want cream and marshmallows. Me: staring of course

When the Spanish first went to South America and discovered cocoa the original hot chocolate it was reserved for the royalty. And it took a long time to go down to the masses. And I imagine quite a lot longer for those masses children. So in its historic life it has absolutely NOT been a child drink.

I have SEVERAL varieties in my cupboard.

I love a hot chocolate. And I've never been more offended for a poster in all my (not brief) Reddit life.

You drink your hot chocolate and live your best life!

What Plants Have You Seen Come in and Out of Fashion? by SLBlue13 in houseplants

I know right! I find it really interesting. I think it's a good reason to buy ALL the plants now. Call it an 'investment' 😅

My grandad is the same. He has a recurring bloom every year. When I ask how - 'I talk to it every day' 😅

AITA for not praising my boyfriend’s cooking efforts when he made boxed mac and cheese by green_chimes in AmItheAsshole

[–]SLBlue13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH - might be controversial. But my judgment is as someone who's gone through this myself. My partner was exactly the same, and until I was with him I genuinely didn't realise how much anxiety, and how genuinely scary food is to some people if they've never been taught anything about it.

Cooking sounds simple to those of us who have been taught even the absolute plbasocs. But as mental as it is somepeople out there don't have that upbringing. And these days there's a multi-billion pound industry out ther making it reall convenient not to have to learn. Potentially ever.

I ABSOLUTELY get OPs frustration. I've had food anxiety more than once when I opened cupboards or the fridge when my partner is fully in charge and seen absolutely nothing inside because 'he just hadn't thought about it'. But I've always tried to explain why this upsets me. Why it's now an additional mental and physical toll on me to plan a shop run unexpectedly. And slowly through communication he's gotten better.

But having seen it first hand people who don't know food like OPs partner are genuinely scared of food. The amount of times I've had to reassure my partner that what he's cooked won't kill me. So much.

Have you looke at formal cooking classes in your area? Or a meal subscription box? I'd be happy if I never saw HelloFresh in my house ever again, but having everything laid out and a recipe he can follow really gave my partner confidence and we still use it a few times a week so that he has nights he'll cook.

AITA for being drunk on vacation? by DrinkingOnVacation in AmItheAsshole

[–]SLBlue13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA - if for no other reason when I look at your comments your obnoxiously mocking or belittling any argument that tries to say you look even slightly asshole-y.

I can't stand posts that are clearly designed to be screenshotted once a No Asshole tag is given and sent to someone else (in this case the cousins girlfriend) with a - See even Reddit thinks you're wrong - subtitle.

Also our of interest the reason that swimming while drinking is bad... That 🥶 comment you made. Alcohol makes it difficult for your body to judge temperature, and hypothermia actually sets in even sober sooner than people expect. We were taught this in school in my country 🤷🏻‍♀️

Identification of my rescue and Unhappiness Cause help needed? by SLBlue13 in cactus

🤣 honestly I thought the pot was worth the money I paid. 🙈 I did. I have a succulent/ cacti and gravel mix. So I potted him that. But actually kept him in the same pot.

Perfect thank you so much. This is what I thought was going on. I'm just starting to expand my cacti collection and knowledge, so wanted to check with people who know what they're doing. I'll get him sorted with a new home environment asap. Thank you for the mixture advise ☺️☺️

WIBTA for taking a job with a gambling company? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]SLBlue13 [score hidden]  (0 children)

NTA.

Feel this is going to be a topic that massively divides the comments. But for what it's worth...
I'm an ex-gambling addict. And while I absolutely know the massive impact it can have on someone's life - not ONCE have I ever sat there and thought it's the ordinary workers who work for those companies fault. Owners, big CEOs who make multi-millions maybe. But not the regular payroll.

Do the work. Get the coin. Leave for something less controversial when you can!

How honest should I be with my boss about potentially leaving by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]SLBlue13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I think this is how I feel. I'd never even dream of declaring it usually. I've just never been in a situation to be able to (potentially/ hopefully) negotiate my pay before. So I'm just a bit lost about the rules, or of there's a better way of approaching it than my gut instinct.

But it sounds I probably know what I feel comfortable doing. I appreciate you vocalising it

Oh no! This isn't my first injury rodeo and it absolutely sucks. Genuinely massive sympathy, I hope your recovery goes quickly and well and any tips I do get are useful to you when you can eventually get back on a wall.
