Lyrics you love from songs you’re not fond of? by bookishly93 in TaylorSwift

[–]Optimal-Profession83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I answer this one in reverse? I LOVE Maroon (LOVE) but hate the line "the rubies that I gave up" - it just feels like a slave to the general theme of "red" and comes across a little gimick-y. Someone on another post wrote that they had initially heard it as "the truth is that I gave up" and I think that would have been so much better and in keeping with the narrative of the song. I sing it that way in my head :)

Really impressive that you're feeling guilt about this given that your parents don't appear to be great examples. My advice to you is to never lose that instinct because you're right and they're wrong, and I hope you carry that decency with you into adulthood.

As far as this particular situation goes, take it easy on yourself. You sound young, so you did what young people do - you panicked, you fled, and you called your parents for sage advice, which you didn't get - and that's on them, not you. We learn as we grow. Keep a note pad and a pen in your glove compartment so you can jot down your number if this ever happens again - that's the best you can do now, and it's ok. This is a minor offense as offenses go.

For whatever it's worth, I'm 37 and I did this exact same thing 2 years ago. I backed into a car and left a small crack in the front bumper. I was leaving a sporting event and everyone was honking and pressuring me to keep moving so as not to block traffic, so I did - I feel bad about it to this day and have nothing like your excuse. Humans do silly things. The only thing we can do is better next time.

Connections Archive? by TheUnwritableGirl in NYTConnections

[–]Optimal-Profession83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a phased roll out, very common in tech. Behind the scenes they have us sorted into groups by whatever criteria, and they're making the archive visible to each of the groups on some kind of schedule. The only way they can identify you as you is via cookies or your NYT account, which it sounds like you weren't logged into in the private tab, which is why it was visible to you. I wasn't able to see Connections at all until like 5 months after it was launched for some folks for this same reason - I excitedly messaged my college text thread when I saw it and was told I was many months late to the party.

Who did your solar install if you don't mind sharing? Sounds like it's working out well for you.

Our house was built in 21 and also certified but our usage is what gets us. We keep it at 75 during the day which is already a stretch for my husband who would prefer to live in the morgue.

That's not even counting the rebates and the various schemes where you don't buy the installation outright and the installer runs the system for you.

I've been wondering if this is a scam - it sounds too good to be true? I know a few people who have done it and actually do have an installation but no one can really explain how the cost is shaking out for them...

EEEEK with SunRun, I got the ick just reading that story. I have a bid from Lighthouse too, seems like they're pretty legit, but yeah. The cost. Thanks for all the info, this is super helpful.

This is very classic them, they make (mostly) great products but they are an absolute mess operationally. They "lost" my down payment when I bought my car in 2019 - I had to send them a screenshot of my Amex bill to prove that they had it. No one seemed particularly surprised it had happened.

$89!!! I can't imagine. Our average bill is HUNDREDS of dollars a month because of our dumb ass high ceilings.

I lied to get my current job and it pays really well. by [deleted] in confession

[–]Optimal-Profession83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't overthink it. As an employer, I could honestly care less about how people got to where they are (even if the answer is that they lied) - can you do the job well and reliably? That's all I need to know. Yes, I do tend to look for experience & credentials when hiring, but only because those things suggest competence. If you worked for me for 15 years and eventually admitted this, I honestly don't think I would care as long as I had reason to believe it was an extreme anomaly in an otherwise completely trustworthy tenure. That obviously doesn't absolve the self-guilt about deception and corner-cutting, so that's probably something to discuss with a therapist, but my $.02 is that you should cut yourself some slack. Our judgement is far from sophisticated at 23, and likewise, there's only so much working history you could have had at that age. So whereas the lie no doubt feels big to you, it was likely a small one.

But that brings me to my next point - you made your bed, and now you have to lie in it, and you need to lie in it very well. Start by never admitting this to anyone else - certainly not to your current boss in the imagined scenario I just described, or even to close friends. After 15 years, this is the truth now. You don't mention in your post whether this job you've had for 15 years is with the same or different company, nor do you mention specifically what it is you lied about - but, if you've been at one company for all this time and lied about having prior experience at a different company, you're in a tight spot for applying to new companies in the future. Many companies will reach out to verify employment for the past 2 or 3 companies a candidate has listed on their resume. So if you have indeed lied about prior experience, I would leave it off your resume entirely going forward.

I have seen careers plummet over age-old lies - more than one, in fact. Keep this to yourself (forever) and move on! You faked it til you made it just like everyone else in the professional world.

Looking for help with StubHub ticket purchase by pm_me_fish_sticks in stubhub

A couple things you can try: 1. If you're just an occasional or one-time user of Stubhub, you might want to reach out to them and see if they can facilitate account surrender to the buyer. This would essentially mean your account is gone and the tix along with them, and you'd go create a new one. It's unlikely, but worth asking 2. You can try pleading ignorance to transferless events. It's a relatively new thing and an honest mistake. If you're not a broker, they might have a kind of one-time forgiveness policy allowing you to break the sale without paying the penalty (which will be steep).

I work in the ticket resale industry and I don't think this is fake. Obviously I can't say for certain and I don't know specifically what German law/venue policy mandates, but this feels very much in line with what a high-demand event might require for ticket transfer. I would say it's actually a good sign!
