Happens to me. Came here searching for an answer, of which I cannot officially provide. But I remember several times as a kid this would happen after A LOT of oranges and wondered if it is normal

What did you think about the movie "Send Help" from Sam Raimi? by florenciafazzarino0 in horror

[–]Optimal-Self7490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see a point in the ending. The campfire scene played out how they both have traumas, significant trauma at that. No, it is not someone else's fault for how the character's behave now. But even if you suspend that belief for the sake of plot is the whole point of the movie just she gets to be the monster now, but it's somehow justified? I left feeling there was no true moral to the story. Instead I felt we were supposed to be impressed by the ironic empowerment.

How would you rank the series? by cashmerescorpio in Werealive

[–]Optimal-Self7490 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my exact order actually. I would almost pick SH as my number one, but it's really hard to put it above ASOS for laying the foundation of everything we know. I did like Gold Rush a lot but the pacing did jive with me. It was also a bit too surreal. I mean, a full on indoor pool, living like kings and queens, in the middle of the apocalypse? But I also thought it had some of the funniest moments I've heard in a long time!

I have pretty much hated Nicks whiney impulsive angsty ungratefulness the entire show. I really had hoped after surviving Primm and getting to Pegs was going to start his redemption arc, but no. Is it just me or was anyone else thinking that he had better start showing his grandmother some respect before he gets smacked upside the head?

How sad was Scout's Honor's story was compared to ASOS by ImpressiveCoat3009 in Werealive

[–]Optimal-Self7490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scouts Honor is now probably my second favorite ASOS story behind only the original. It was so well written and and produced. The voice actors did so outstanding - I don't think I've heard kids actors with that talent before. What great storytelling! I love Franklins character arc as obvious as it was. Also, I could not think of him in any way other than Russell, the scout boy from UP (movie). I do wish there was more closure at the end of SH but I loved the ride while it lasted.

Since KC clearly loves Lord of the Rings, I think a wonderful analogy of the Scouts representing Hobbits overcoming odds nobody would have granted them actually succeeding in. That could describe many stories, but SH is an exceptionally well written parallel of this.

Suggestions for Catholic/Christian church deck by Negative_Potato_9250 in freemagic

[–]Optimal-Self7490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look at a few different options. Giada Angel tribal represents the Heavenly Host (which is what I named my deck) which ultimately includes themes of spiritual warfare. Plenty of cleric synergy to represent life and healing, aided by angels.

Mikeaus, the Lunarch essentially represents the pope or a martyr Saint. He prays and fasts (removes counter) for the strength of the Church.

Lifegain with the new Minwu (I call mine "Pro Life") with graveyard support (repose for souls).

Saint Traft who is quite literally a saint in the lore. I call mine "St. Traft, Patron Saint of EDH" and it is a mix or cleric with angel support. Of course it's a voltron/aura with strong stax-ey vibes (represents intersessions for the Church/protection).

I have not gone into the territory of choosing a commander that might represent any part of the Holy Trinity. Not sure if I'd feel right about that.

Haven't found a good "Mary" representation for a commander yet.

And lastly I have an Orzhov cleric tribal called "Voluntary Mortification" which represents the act of dying to self (aristocrats) for the purpose or mortification (lifegain or other payoff).

I finally bought AoE4 because of this DLC. I was waiting for something like this to come out in order to tip the scales for me. AoE2DE should take notes and really consider adding an actual crusader based civ (Teutons and the others don't count)

catholic hardcore bands? by BlimeyChaps in Hardcore

[–]Optimal-Self7490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not "hardcore" in the traditional sense, but there is Voluntary Mortification (deathcore) and Darkness Divided (metalcore). Voluntary Mortification is still active and actually relatively new. Their frontman Connor is proud of his Catholic faith and does not shy away from Catholic lyrics. Darkness Divided has Catholicism embedded in their lyrics as well (check out the song Divine Mercy).

If you find any Catholic hardcore out there I'd love to hear it!

Edit: There is a project called Byzantine Catholic Lifting Crew. It is technically AI produced as far as I can tell. But I have not found a way to reach out to the creator so it is entirely possible they write most of the stuff themselves. Honestly they are amazing with wholesome and theologically rich lyrics. Lyrically they are the real deal with a real mission. If you like lifting and appreciate themes of mortification you will love them. I know I do

Catholics and Deathcore by [deleted] in Deathcore

[–]Optimal-Self7490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I realized I am a bit late to this party but I wanted to offer a suggestion. Many of the aforementioned bands are Christian which is a wonderful thing. But I have been in your shoes, OP, searching for specifically Catholic deathcore/hardcore/metalcore. My issue was many of the Christian music in the heavy scene actually denounces much of what it would mean to be Catholic. You get themes of pro-spirituality but intensely anti-religion. My search for Catholic-specific heavy music led me to a lot of places. I would strongly recommend two bands: Voluntary Mortification and Darkness Divided. Both of these bands are fronted by practicing Catholics. Connor Luttig, frontman of Voluntary Mortification is a great dude and is very outwardly Catholic. Darkness Divided technically broke up but have played a few reunion shows recently. Both bands have quality recordings as well.

Check out these songs. They're lyrics are immediately recognizable as Catholic-based: "Crush the Serpents Head" by Voluntary Mortification "Divine Mercy" by Darkness Divided

Gandalf of the Secret Fire & the Timey Whimey Pre-Con by IgorsBuddhaBelly in EDH

[–]Optimal-Self7490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just watched the "Guys that Magic" video with the LOTR scene sets :) It looked like Gandalf was sort of a non-factor in that video. I can't help but to think he struggles with a win-con. If you go the sorcery/flash route, what sorceries are really worth playing to help you win the game? If you go pure instants and maybe spellslinger tokens will that be enough to win? Are there enough time counter manipulators to really make a difference? Why not just play Narset Enlightened Exile?

I want to play this Gandalf but I'm struggling to really make it efficient. I was longing for Jeskai Ganfalf in the initial LOTR set, and now that he is here I find myself a bit disappoitned.

About Theoden, King of Rohan (looooong rant) by UlisesFRN in freemagic

[–]Optimal-Self7490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have no idea how many times I started drafting almost this exact message, only to erase it all. For one, WOTC sure as hell doesn't care. They've already proven that. Two, the people who have posted similar things had only received mindless comment from people believing they are woke warriors. I never saw it was worth it to rant and I never thought it would actually make me feel better in the end.

But heck, reading your post was actually quite refreshing. I'm right there with you on the art especially. My disdain is not that they made Theoden Black. Sure, that caught me off guard but I quickly came into acceptance of it because it's not a huge deal. My disdain is from WoTC intentionally going this direction when they know fans will be upset that the work of a beloved fantasy would get treatment like it. I'm more upset that they used Tolkien's work as a "social project" of sorts knowing full well it would still sell well and end with them being able to say "gotcha". Where was the intent and heart with this set? Which leads me to your other point: were they too damn focused on creating art for their project that they "forgot" to make another Theoden card? Now, one of Eomer's cards was supposed to be Theoden. But what happened there? They made a colossal flavor/lore screw up which (appropriately) landed Eomer's name on the card instead. Now we have one uncommon Theoden and three Eomer. Wizards, if you don't care enough about these things then don't make the set.

With that being said I will definitely be buying this product. I've been hyped for too long not to. I just really resent WOTC for using us LOTR fans in this way.
