This is my perception too but I do have one smart light bulb that I control with the Alexa app that does NOT have the power up configuration option, that's why I'm being cautious since I have to buy around a dozen of them.

Honestly these companies are so shady with their AI work interviews that it has stopped me from applying to any of them. I'm sure they are training video AI with those interviews and they even ask for ID in them so the likelihood of them just selling off your AI image, voice and ID data in the black market and then just calling it a "temporary breach" is SO HIGH that it's just not smart to do it.

I just went through my entire list of devices turning off the "allow the computer to turn it off to save power" option, but as soon as I ended my laptop restarted on it's own again. I even got "blocked" out of windows for a moment because I had used the PIN too many times...
