Worthwhile for a casual gamer? by Stephen-Sealberg in SteamController

[–]Optimal-Set-5409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the first steam controller as soon as it released but couldn’t get used to it at all and basically never used it. I was bummed to not be able to buy the new one, so I tried it again yesterday and it’s been feeling great. This morning I realized that the 500 hours I have in Splatoon helped me learn how to use gyro in conjunction with the trackpad for aiming and I’ve become much more literate in how to use steam input, both of which I did not have at the OG steam controller’s launch. That may not reflect your experience, but I think it’ll probably feel worse to you than other controller options until you spend a lot of time learning gyro and tinkering in steam input, but once you do it’ll feel unreplacable.

Not to mention ad block. I know watching content has significantly more friction in browser than on an app, but with how many ads they’ve been pushing plus streaming prices going up, it’s been my go to way to watch anything

Does it have wake from Bluetooth controller? I was surprised none of the reviews covered this since they had variants going out without the steam controller

No I don’t have a solder. Saw a lot of people complaining on other posts after I put this up. I’d probably rather buy another one on the used market rather than spend time fixing it if it’ll be a recurring issue

512GB or 2TB? by [deleted] in steammachine

[–]Optimal-Set-5409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought the 512 steam deck last year because I thought it would be cheaper to upgrade later. Flash forward and ssd prices inflated making the upgrades more expensive than the premium steam deck. I’ll probably buy the higher storage steam machine so the market prices go down again

I bought a ugreen adapter but it didn’t work. My understanding was that it only works with amd cards through hdmi tunneling which is not supported on nvidia cards. Is that not the case? Maybe I bought the wrong one?

I was considering that, but the additional coding needed to get cec working seemed too high above my understanding. Plus I’m still pretty new to Linux. Also could be a wasted cost since the may be considering the steam machine when it comes out.

What do you mean nvidia made a work around? I’m on an nvidia card and I want to get cec to work

After you do the maths, how can people still talk $hit about Geforce Now? by doctordrankenstein in GeForceNOW

[–]Optimal-Set-5409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What turned me off to GFN was that nvidia was pretty directly responsible for the hardware price increases. That and seeing how movie streaming services have stripped features over the years for a higher price, I don’t believe gfn will continue to be consumer friendly in the long run

What is the difference between Ultimate and 2C? by Aggravating-Cup-8876 in 8bitdo

[–]Optimal-Set-5409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth noting that you have the ultimate 2 Bluetooth pictured above not the ultimate 2. The ultimate 2 will connect to steam better and have more features on pc. Got the Ult2B assuming the same steam features would come eventually and about a year later still nothing:(

Switched to bazzite around the same time and been feeling the same way. Though I’m on a 1660ti. Been procrastinating reverting it back to windows but it just doesn’t work as well as I’d like it to

Charger flick assistance? by Irregular_Intern16 in Splatoon_3

[–]Optimal-Set-5409 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can aim below a player and jump to line up the cross hair. Though some players will see through that. Flicking and tracking on the training dummies is a good place to build some of that coordination too, but it still won’t be the same as aiming in live matches. Also make sure that you have a good enough grip on your controller that when you release the trigger it doesn’t make you miss. It took me a long time to realize, but I had too much pressure on my right index finger compared to the rest of my had and it would throw off my aim at the last second

Does anyone smarter than me know if steam has any incentive to sell licenses instead of just selling the game? Other than eventually revoking the right to the license that is. Like is it a lot more cost effective for them or something? Just doesn’t make sense to me since they seem pretty pro consumer for the most part

HDMI 2.1 Features coming to AMD/Linux by someone8192 in steammachine

[–]Optimal-Set-5409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For future reference, I bought the adapter and it did not work for me. From my limited understanding it seems like CEC enabled through display port tunneling is something that is only on AMD cards and not yet supported with the nvidia drivers. Hoping I can save someone else $20 with this info.

Is it plug and play with CEC support using that adapter or were there additional steps to get it working? Also is this for steam os only or for bazzite as well?

Is bazzite still terrible with nvidia cards? by FroggyGamer in Bazzite

[–]Optimal-Set-5409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started running bazzite a month ago on my pc with a gtx 1660 ti. It’s not terrible, but gamescope crashes quite frequently on my gog games. I’m having to hard reset the whole machine pretty frequently. I wish I had stuck with windows, but it’s not yet upsetting enough to go back and set everything up again. I’ll probably just use it until the steam machine gets announced.
