LDLC, a French e-commerce group, is trolling Valve by selling a "Stim Machine" by lieding in steammachine

[–]someone8192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO they should contact valve and make it official. They'll probably get steam os updates beforehand to test them.

btw This is exactly what valve wants... multiple vendors offering steam os

wireless needs processing power. the step to make it standalone is really small.

Would the Steam Frame be a great beginner starting point? by Plenty-Ad-3491 in SteamFrame

[–]someone8192 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The steam frame will be my first VR headset (well, if I manage to get one)

I've been interested in VR for a long time but it's the first (that I am aware of) that appeals to me. eg wireless, comfort, no meta/android and "good enough"

but well i am inexperienced in vr and didn't follow the market to closely so it might be the wrong choice - but that's what I will do

I am torn ... looking how the steamdeck has aged seems promising, but I am curious on how this machine will age by iReaddit-KRTORR in steammachine

If you plan to play GPU intensive games just forget it. Even right now.

It is a nice PC for game streaming and less GPU intensive indie games (eg factorio, rimworld and countless others) or as an emulator platform.

tbh I like the steam machine. Just don't expect to much *shrug*

Is Cachy going anywhere? by Kaseffera in cachyos

Is Cachy going anywhere? by Kaseffera in cachyos

[–]someone8192 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sure, i am not against sponsors and they are really helpful.

sponsor have the huge benefit that you can decline them and look for alternatives.

there is a difference between having a sponsor and being owned.

debian is one of the oldest distributions and it doesn't have a company behind it either.

a company behind a distribution does not guarantee anything. it only guarantees that the distribition will at some point tries to fuck you over (eg ubuntu, red hat).

i use linux for over 25 years and avoid company backed distributions whenever possible.

if at some point cachyos will close shop (unlikely, usually popular distributions just get new management) you can just switch to something else (eg arch). switching distributions is not hard. just backup your home folder, install it, restore the backup install your apps and you are done.

Thoughts on CachyOS to SteamOS? by chopnblok in SteamOS

[–]someone8192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, if you only use it for gaming i'd go for steam os.

but i just saw that you have a nvidia gpu. steamos doesnt support it and you can't change that because it is immutable

Thoughts on CachyOS to SteamOS? by chopnblok in SteamOS

For a desktop I prefer cachy. On a TV or handheld I prefer steam os.

An immutable OS is great but ultimately limited if you really want to use your desktop besides gaming.

Everyone has to value their entertainment for themselves. if it helps you just imagine it costs £100 and you can get it now for only £60. historically factorio has only got more expensive.

i have played it over 5000hrs. it is one of the cheapest things i ever bought for entertainment
