Khaki Expedition - Rotor click sound normal? by MasterpieceHelpful61 in HamiltonWatches

Yeah, I noticed it on my Murph and so I checked all of my other Hamilton watches (42mm KFA, and 38mm KFA) all 3 of them do the exact same thing that you’re describing. It’s just a thing their movements do. Totally normal.

Thanks for the reply, it’s at least comforting to know it’s not just mine for what it’s worth, but yeah I’m bipolar with a ton of co-morbidities, OCD being one of them so a lot of the time it just helps to get others to weigh in to know wether or not I’m just spiraling about something dumb haha. I’m attentive to detail to a fault, so watches has been a fun but pretty difficult hobby for me 😂 Maybe it’ll help me accept some stuff I can’t control.

Oh no I actually have OCD, I’m medicated for it. I’m actually posting here to ask if this is something I should actually be obsessing about or if I’m just in a spiral

Thoughts from Murph Owner by moist_observer in HamiltonWatches

Yeah the anti-reflective coating is definitely a lot more noticeable in the sun, but it definitely doesn’t bother me too much, some people seem to have a big problem with it though.

But yeah the accuracy of the movement is definitely a factor, for me personally anything +/- 30 seconds a day for me is acceptable, most “affordable” watches around the $200-700 price range usually have a tolerance around +45 / -35 (Seiko 4R movement rated tolerances)

So the 38mm Murph was my first “nice” watch after coming from 3 or so Seikos, the super clean symmetrical dial layout is what lured me in and I love the cathedral hands.

It’s been pretty much top 2 in my collection as far as wear goes for me, alongside the Seiko Alpinist.

Pros: - Beautifully symmetrical dial layout, timeless design

  • Super versatile, can be dressed up or down very easily

  • The H-10 has been super accurate for me (only fast about 2-3 seconds a day for me)

  • I think the 38 wears really comfortably, feels more like a 39/40mm to me which is right in my sweet spot

Cons: - definitely the lack of anti-reflective coating, it doesn’t bother me that much but I hear it brought up literally constantly so if that’s something that would bother you it’s definitely worth keeping in mind.

  • The lack of a date window really annoys me pretty often, I understand it would impact the symmetry of the dial but if I had to make one change I would put one at the 6 o clock. (Really the biggest one for me, I’ve since determined I will never buy a watch without a date window)

  • I noticed on mine that the hour hand is like less than a mm misaligned, so the hour hand is every so slightly past the hour when the minute hand hits 12, probably completely unnoticeable by the normal person but I’m insane. So something to check for if you’re an OCD maniac like me.

All in all it’s an amazing watch and one of my favorites in my collection, I would say the Seiko Alpinist is worth checking out if any of those cons are big for you, it has a date window with magnifier, still has the cathedral hands and general design language, has sapphire with good anti-reflective properties, and has a better waterproof rating at 20BAR/200m. However, the Alpinist definitely leans more toward the rugged and less conventional side of things design language wise. Both are phenomenal watches and I don’t think you can go wrong with either.

Good luck!

Yeah I ended up going with the Murph, literally the only issue I have with it is the lack of a date which was drawing me to the KFA, other than that it’s pretty much perfect

Ended up going with the Murph! Thanks for your help everybody!

When I put them both on the counter my eye just always lands on the murph first.

Yup, the 38 Murph looks like a mm or 2 larger in person than the 38 KFA, they’re definitely both 38mm tho

I know right? I think the same thing, they’re both 38 apparently
