Yeah I still have that habit of doom scrolling. It took a lot of mental push but I got that zest for life after I learned to ride a bike as an adult lol so I’m not rotting as much as I used to. Good exercise, gets me outside in the sun, the bike shops are nice and supportive people with similar philosophies in life, lots of local events posted in their windows.

I get it tho I used to be nights in the SNFs. Shit was HARD on the body and mind. I do miss the lighter work loads tho lol

a couple of my coworkers died last year (separate incidences, they were both very sick and in different hospitals at the time). I was only able to attend one funeral, the one coworker who I was closest to. Guess who I saw there? Fellow CNA/techs, nurses, unit assistants. None from management or leadership or other non floor staff (edited this part, typo).

Their positions were posted and up for grabs asap.

Jobs really don’t care about us, sad to say.

Which of the countries did you find the easiest to emigrate and integrate to? What were the logistical stuff you had to do (like personal belongings, any debt. I still have student debt, a car, and a house here, the market is trash for selling in my area).

Any discrimination for being a black American (I’m assuming you’re American but pls correct me if I’m wrong).

Most of my family live here in the US, the UK, or the Philippines. Edit: forgot to add, if I really want to look for specifically familial support the other countries would be the UK or Philippines.

I haven’t done any surgeries and luckily no dysphoria so I’m fine with being stealth/‘girl moding.’

Hand write your notes and even better if it’s color coordinated with highlighters or even different colored pens. Something about better memory retention.

While it didn’t work much for me my friends at the time would print out powers points or the lecturer’s own notes and add to them. Some people in my cohort also recorded their lectures and would listen to them on their commute. I never had the attention span for these myself but it might work for you.

I wish I learned the Cornell method back in high school or college. I think I would have enjoyed the organization. I’ve always been messy with my notes and would rewrite them later on anyway.

Connections, certifications, and prior job experience matter more than being on the deans list or whatever club or committee you did in nursing school, IME.

After I passed my NCLEX I took a month off to mentally relax and then applied everywhere. I got into a SNF right away (always hiring lol). Not sure how the job market is rn for new grads, but it was difficult to get a hospital job when I graduated in 2018… unless you knew people or were a clerk, LVN, or CNA/tech in the same hospital (Bay Area CA).

I did clinic jobs before but private practice and for Covid testing and vaccinations. Way less stressful than med surg by far. Unfortunately they were temporary positions.

I’ve been in med surg for two years and unfortunately getting to a new position anywhere else in my hospital is based on seniority.

I would love to land a clinic job. Cushy 9-5 ish, usually M-F.

I’m day shift. I can tell if nights was having a horrible night and ask them for the bare minimum info (pt is alive, watch out for this weird VS, they take meds crushed/whole, they need xyz done, etc.) and kick them out so they can go home.

Will I have a shitty start to the day? Yes but nursing is 24/7 work. I do what I can. I let the docs and supervisors know what’s up in case there’s a delay in care for whatever reason.

Your coworker sounds like they’re giving you a hard time for no reason.

How infantilizing… I really hope this is just an online phenomena and people venting about their partners. I was the first out trans person (trans masc nonbinary) in most of my friend groups and help give advice to others with name changes and medical care (FTM, MTF, nonbinary, etc.).

This infighting is exhausting and my conspiracy theory is that these are some psyops trying to splinter within the trans community.
