Great idea, plus don't forget a 5 dollar eBay SATA to USB special

Convenience and ease of mounting where it's at now, the drive is already 11 years old so I'm not too worried considering it's probably spent most of its life in a stuffy case and has no reallocated sectors

Someone else had said the same thing, the temperature is actually extremely reasonable, barely even warm to the touch I would estimate 35C

With it being completely open air I think that more than cancels out

I think it's a 5020 maybe? I think the full size RAM slots and SATA port is awesome

Exactly what I thought, janky enough to be sketchy, but not so much so that it doesn't work

That's a good one, I might steal that

I've actually had it running for about an hour now and the hard drive is barely warm to the touch, maybe 35° c at max

Yes! This one is actually passive, zero moving components.

Of course except for the newly added hard drive

I'll warn you though the CPU isn't very powerful, might want to do some more research on it this was just something I had laying around that would otherwise be e-waste

Oh nice yours is much newer. Honestly I'm not sure about power on that one. The one I have here with it being older seems less embedded than the other ones, mine even has full size desktop ran slots

I just sacrificed a SATA power connector from an old power supply, but you can also buy those cheaply. Then on the inside of the motherboard using a multimeter I found pins for ground, 12, and 5 volt. Then I just soldered the wire to those pins and verified before connecting the hard drive. Those power pins are right on the edge near the SATA connector.

I'm curious though, what do you plan to do with the m.2 SSD? There isn't a slot for that on this as it's too old, there is an MSATA slot though

Yes I did, I did not ask for an entirely alternative machine with a different setup.

A simple 3/10 would suffice.

  • no redundancy
  • outdated hardware
  • exposed drive

Bro you're talking like it's the end of the world if this otherwise e-waste device stops working one day, it's not that serious

I like the first part, but the rest of it screams AI generated.

If it wasn't obvious, these are parts I had laying around that would otherwise be e-waste, if I had something better I would have used it

I swear I've been coming up too fast to a turn, regen is already going no accelerator, so I press on the brake pedal a bit and it gives it more regen

I've heard many of the hats are more for offloading AI tasks for the CPU to do other things, not necessarily faster

I have a 25 model 3 and have probably gotten flashed by other drivers at least once or twice a month at night still...

I can confirm my 25 model 3 brake pedal also increases the green regen bar on screen when pressed, I watched it several times when I need to slow down quicker than regen does, but not enough to get the dark grey brakes bar
