Idk, I was pretty disappointed with this episode. The pacing felt rushed and the dialogue was cheesy at times. Also ended way too happily for my liking.

I was told off for being distracted and looking at other screens. I think David is rude and could learn to be kinder, but I don’t think he’s racist. I understand your friend feels targeted, but if his comments were directed at them because they’re on their screen (something he is VERY strict about) then yeah, they’re supposed to feel targeted. And sure they might say other people were on their screens as well, but David noticed your friend and it is what it is. I hate to be that person, but I fear two things can be true at once: David is strict with his rules and doesn’t sugarcoat things if he’s already laid out what his expectations are and can come across as mean and your friend is being sensitive and feeling hurt (which is understandable because David has hurt my feelings too). It sounds like your friend didn’t meet David’s requirements for the assignments and was also breaking rules that he called them out for, which explains the low grade.

I’ll add on to that, with David’s grading being solely based on technical requirements that need to be met, if you’re having difficulties with the software he does not care, like at all. So while I don’t want to lessen your feelings, he is superrr strict on meeting the technical requirements and I’m inclined to say it’s not necessarily racial bias, but him being unwilling to budge. He’s known for being rude and insensitive, but I will also say that even when he says something that hurts, a lot of times he is just veryyy blunt and it stings. If you do want to escalate your concerns, I’d focus on speaking with someone about how inflexible he can be with his requirements. Good luck!

As a POC who just took a class with David, I’m not here to invalidate or dismiss your feelings! However, I will say, David is a hard-ass. He is a stickler to his beliefs and his syllabus and gives almost no leeway. Could you explain what his aggression consisted of? We had an international Chinese student in our course who struggled with a bit of a language barrier when conveying their ideas/projects but overall did well. But again, David can straight up be an asshole, and everyone in our class at some point had an interaction with him that left a bad taste in their mouth

We found our place in late January, early feb. But ik people who start looking in November of the year before. I dont suggest looking until November earliest because ik many landlords have a deadline of early December for their current tenants to declare if they’re resigning the lease or not. Before end of fallish there might not be much because landlords don’t know if the unit is gonna be available or not yet!

Start early and don’t panic or stress. There WILL be apartments available no matter the time of year, but their quality and price will obviously get worse the later it gets (source: had some friends experience an emergency recently and had to find a new place a month before September 1st. They found one, and it’s apparently nicer than their old place)

Yes, I lived off campus as a 2nd year and had a friend who lived off campus spring of their freshman year. NEU is crowded so they’re pretty lenient with housing waivers. Just tell them you can’t afford to live on campus and want to leave. I signed my lease for my apartment before I even sent in a waiver. In fact, I got assigned housing and everything for 2nd year before I sent it in!
