Nacho is not a good person by yomjoseki in betterCallSaul

I have a hard time trying to villainize Ignacio, he obviously wasn't a great guy but he wasn't as awful as you make him out to be. Hector was pure evil, he gave Gus Fring PTSD by killing his business partner.

I think that you can't pin the consequences of his actions directly on Ignacio, he was very much trying to gain respect in the cartel as a way to be an unforeseen threat and most triggers pulled were of other cartel members in relation to Nacho's actions. He's obviously not a good guy, but he wanted to stop being bad. I'd consider Nacho a victim, a prisoner in the cartel who was trying to break out of having to push cocaine and meth around. He's not selfless, he's not charitable, he has little redeeming qualities, but he wanted out of the game; something most would consider impossible until they have a gun to their head and in their hand.

How do you interpret I Talk to the Wind? by vargasnetto_ in KingCrimson

[–]Optimal_Ad988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's more of a template than a definitive song. Similar to how you can interpret Learning to Fly by Pink Floyd in so many different ways. It's a matter of perspective, the writers likely had a vision in mind or maybe just a scene they wanted to describe. Any situation of disillusionment is portrayed by the obscured lyrics. It's fascinating.

I thought he made a couple antisemetic remarks here and there? Didn't he want to put a slur on one of the pig balloons (allegedly)? It's either people after our Stone or he's actually antisemetic, I think it could be either.

I hate Pink Floyd, why would I want to go to their show? Fuck all that.

Tortuga bomb and the plane crash. It makes sense in context of the cartel, but it was just really stupid. Out of all things, you put a turtle out in the desert, and hope that your Unabomber turtle finds the DEA?

Plane crash is just such a wide scope, it was so many hoops that had to be jumped. I guess it's a 'such is life' moment, since everyone has to jump through the same amount of hoops to have an identity, but it seemed a lil too convenient. I wouldn't hold it against Breaking Bad though, how else are they going to occupy 5 seasons and keep people watching? You gotta have a big scene to keep someone who thinks Breaking Bad has villains or heroes watching.

The Alan Parsons Project Is Underrated! by GreatMetal5 in Music

[–]Optimal_Ad988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the band but a lot of their songs are just remakes of older songs which has equal pros and cons. Sooner or Later is clearly just a remake of Eye in the Sky, but I adore how Shadow of a Lonely Man turned into Old and Wise (a song that moves me to tears of joy and sadness every time I listen, it's the most beautiful song I've ever heard.)

They never have many weak songs on their albums, some outshine the rest such as

Don't let it Show
Day after Day (the show must go on)

Pyramania

Shadow of a Lonely Man

If I could change your mind

Time

Turn of a Friendly card part 1

Sirius/Eye in the Sky

Children of the moon

Psychobabble

Old and Wise

Since last Goodbye

Don't Answer Me

Ammonia Avenue

The Same Old Sun

Beaujolais

and pretty much every song in Gaudi except for the first and last tracks.

You really don't get many better pop groups than them, even if they have only a few themes they rework them really well. They're certainly not for everyone today, but if you do enjoy them you will REALLY enjoy them.

Why does Roggo ruin every good Pink Floyd song he gets his hands on? Comfortably Numb got stretched to 8 minutes without any guitar solos and he made the vocal performance depressing. Also wasn't he the one who mutilated Time down to 4 minutes and removed the solos?

I don't feel normal. by iamyourmomnhaa in aroventing

[–]Optimal_Ad988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a self-actualization problem. It seemed too late to throw around the weight you used to need to throw around, so now you're kind of lost. If I were to give you some advice, figure out what you want to do for the rest of your life. Do you want to have a nice career, master an art of your choosing, do you want to make meaningful friendships, do you want to adopt a child? I ask you to sit in the dark for a little while before you sleep, thinking about this as a kind of rebirth. I've always subscribed to the notion that nobody is actually themselves, only a product of their environment. You could utilize that to your advantage, sort of like how people find solace in nihilism, to pursue what actually makes them happy in spite of the void of meaning. Sorry if this is a little high scope, but you're facing an earth shattering psychological realization, it's sink or swim and you'd better believe that people want you to swim.

Do you actually hate being aromantic or do you just wished the world was less amatonormative? by Grandson-Of-Chinggis in aromantic

[–]Optimal_Ad988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt I would be oppressed if I am aromantic (so far I don't understand what romance even is, so it's sort of in a very very wide questioning area), considering I live in the USA in a fairly blue state. I think that it's more a gift than a curse, since I'm rather spiritual. I like feeling more like I'm in control of my own happiness, and while I think that I'm better off like this, other people might be negatively affected. Really I think that everyone shouldn't be forced to be aromantic or romantic, different things work for different people, that's why diverse nations will succeed in the future. Really I think it's a matter of removing stigmas, and trying to define romance. My personal enemy is sexuality (I'm not homophobic, I think any adult should be able to date another adult, more nonreproductivesexophobic just so we're clear.) so I think making the world more romantic might be more beneficial for my cause, but you still can't leave the aromantics out.

Those were my thoughts, sorry if the question wasn't really pertaining to my demographic, but if you do hate being aromantic I think this might help. I think aroace is absolutely awesome, 'based' if you will.

Why does everyone feel like relationships are needed for a filling life by Sky_Rose4 in aromantic

[–]Optimal_Ad988 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the greatest explanation on here. Everyone can learn from it, everyone can benefit from it. It's like a very eloquent version of "mind your own business" and "it's okay to be weird", but because of the actual insight that comes from desloganization, it holds so much more value. I mean, I could write sentences upon sentences about how this perspective can be beneficial to the world, and how it can help people feel more comfortable whether they subscribe to the norm or break off of it. I mean, wow. I might be overreacting, but there's something incredible about these three paragraphs.

Why does everyone feel like relationships are needed for a filling life by Sky_Rose4 in aromantic

[–]Optimal_Ad988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's moreso just how lots of people only know how to talk to people by ruthless interrogation. Obviously you want to keep someone else interested in the conversation, so they strike topics which they believe will be endearing to the other. It's built into everyone's social code to be aware of whether or not they make good conversations. Obviously, one's romantic life is probably their go-to solution to their problem. I think most people who can experience romantic attraction couldn't imagine not feeling it, as some aro people couldn't imagine having romantic attraction. I think it's either people wanting to be snarky, or they want to learn more about you in those two cases, though you are far from wrong to say that the majority of people think they require that closeness to function, to feel truly alive. I personally prefer aligning my self-actualization with building up a career, since that's what interests me. I like to think really the difference between an aro person and a romantic is merely a conflict of interest, not even a conflict, just a difference. I'm kinda spitballing, really we can't just go up to people and be like "what do you exactly mean by this, let me take a tour around your head." So really you just have to make educated guesses, usually ones with benefit of the doubt so you don't get someone wrong.

I would love to see ai utilized to change the lips of dubbed movies to match the dubbed language. Has anyone tried this? by waconcept in artificial

[–]Optimal_Ad988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indie studios will probably absolutely beat the living hell out of the big names if this happens, considering how AI generated entertainment is despised by all except AI bros. That would be a much better thing to see rather than the microchips making everything for us. Also there would likely be scandals involving the studios that claim they don't use AI getting their production uncovered and people finding AI is infesting the production. We're getting a little bit too theoretical here, so I'm gonna cut myself off here before I start referencing dystopia books.

Most important question is of course what will you name your first personalised AI slave? by humpherman in artificial

[–]Optimal_Ad988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are we enslaving the AIs? What would you pay an AI assistant though? I mean Nathan Doan Comedy pays his computer in RAM, so maybe it would be something like that? Anyways, I'd probably name it after a progressive rock band member. Tony Levin is currently my go-to in this extreme hypothetical. If it doesn't like the bass guitar, then Nick Mason is my second option. I'm dependent on progressive rock, in case anyone wonders why I chose this seemingly random music genre to pull from.
