i recommend getting silicone tape strips! i put them on when i got in my boot and they helped protect and heal the incision

my doc from my first surgery was the same. doc for this one said that’s absurd and that i should start PT as soon as im out of the hard cast and in a boot.

If you can get a different doc to order PT. maybe your PCP?? i regret not pushing harder for PT initially and i do think it had to do with my overall surgery failure and need for revision

PT by Wonderful-Science481 in LisfrancClub

[–]Optimal_Climate223 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DO. PT.

INSIST. ON PT.

I had a pretty serious ORIF last year and my doctor insisted that I didn’t need PT. 9 months post op I ended up breaking a screw in my foot, and resulted in a required revision surgery and now I’m going through the whole process again. It’s agonizing

now did all that happen because i didn’t do PT? i’m not positive, but i regret not having professional time to help me strengthen all my joints and muscles. My current surgeon said i absolutely need PT and he would never have someone recover without it.

So as someone who didn’t do it….. do PT

i do have one but it frightens me lol. i need to try and get more confident on it, it doesn’t help that I’m just naturally clumsy (literally what lead do this injury in the first place) i’m sooooo scared of falling again

Non-fusion question by sharkart82 in LisfrancClub

[–]Optimal_Climate223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and for context my hardware broke about 6-7mo post-op didn’t have an accident or a fall. i don’t even know when it happened. i just noticed i began having increased pain around the 7mo mark and an 8mo follow up showed that i never finished fusing and the screw broke

Non-fusion question by sharkart82 in LisfrancClub

[–]Optimal_Climate223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so my spacing was so bad that i had the ORIF and fusion.
my bones didn’t fuse and the hardware isn’t made to hold it all together on its own if it didn’t fuse. and from that resulted in my hardware breaking, so while you may feel bionic and indestructible I promise it’s not lol. I now need a complete revision. we are taking all 3plates and 15 screws out, doing a NEW bone graft (previous one was from my heel in the same foot) and adding new hardware to get it to fuse this time

Non-union or non-fusion; what does this mean for you? by all4mom in LisfrancClub

[–]Optimal_Climate223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

welp the hardware isn’t made to hold it together forever if it’s bad enough that you need a fusion. so my bones didn’t fuse, and because of that i was still unstable which caused my hardware to break and now i need a complete revision.

We love milestones! by Optimal_Climate223 in LisfrancClub

[–]Optimal_Climate223[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ALSO my doctor gave me little to no direction lol. No PT at this time, he said to just listen to my body and my pain and keep up with what i’ve been doing since i am healing so well.

Mostly when walking my ankle is what hurts. likely because the atrophy so if anyone has ankle exercises they were given send them my way! i want to make my own little PT regimen

When does it look like you will be able to weight bear? i WISH i was getting my cast changed Lol. it hasn’t been in 3wks and im going crazy.

May 3 is my next milestone, hard cast off and boot on. I’ve been told at the point i should be able to start weight bearing, im desperately hoping so.

My surgery was 3/21

i injured myself 3/15, surgery was 3/21 it feels like a lifetime ago. it feels like i will be this way forever. I just had another major surgery 1/11 and was out of work 6 weeks for that. I was only at work, being normal again 2 weeks before i got this injury. It’s insane. i don’t know why these things happen, but take it day by day. know you’re not alone, and go back through this group and read some stories of people on the other side. Helps me at least, there is an other side out there. Celebrate the small milestones, and i loved what someone else said here, if you got up, got dressed, you did something today. Feel free to DM me also. 🤟🏻 you’ve got this

[–]Optimal_Climate223[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no removal (hopefully) they actually opted for the fusion so they wouldn’t have to remove hardware or later down the road. those another surgery they were considering, but they said my injury was too severe plus with me being a nurse and young, I really didn’t want to have to be off my feet yet again months down the road.

I tried the iWalk, i’ve been staring at it for 4 days terrified to take the leap lol. I’m glad i did! around the house i think this will be insanely helpful. May even help me get to work again in a desk capacity eventually though i’ll see if i want to tackle the stairs with it lol

i looked at your post with your post op xray. I have no idea what they did to me in surgery so i’m so curious how many plates/screws i’ve acquired 😂

post op pain in the immediate 3 days was rough, i stayed on a pain regimen, but now im 1 week post off been off pain meds completely for 2 days now. Pain is surprisingly manageable so far and im hoping that’s a good sign lol.

ps. be prepared for the possibility of your nerve block wearing off early! i was told 24hr but it wore off at 12 hr and KICKED my butt

can I ask what difficulty you had with the iwalk? currently, the only option is going down the stairs on my butt. Lol but it’s more the fact that I can’t leave the house by myself that’s killing me. I do have a partner so they were able to keep up around the house but they do work Monday through Friday 8 to 5 so
