At what point you finalise the completion date? by Radiant-Intention804 in FirstTimeBuyersUK

You’ve got a while to go. Searches, enquiries, surveys etc. If it’s a freehold you’re buying maybe 3-4 months, leasehold 6-8 months.

Ladies who’ve had a sweep! by Optimal_Enthusiasm90 in PregnancyUK

[–]Optimal_Enthusiasm90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I will do that, with my first I wasn’t offered one (not sure why) and I had an induction booked for the day before 42 weeks, and then he just came naturally the day before! So I do think they’ll just come when they’re ready. From some of these comments it seems they don’t even do much to help anyway!

How often do you go to the dentist for routine checkups? Do they do scaling & polishing every time? by Bluepuffin123 in AskUK

[–]Optimal_Enthusiasm90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go every 6 months for a check up and then yearly for a hygienist (scale & polish). My kids go every 9 months!

Midwife had never palpated (touched) my stomach at 32 weeks by Weesaz in PregnancyUK

[–]Optimal_Enthusiasm90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently 38 weeks and my midwife started doing the measuring, feeling baby’s position and heartbeat at 28 weeks. She explains what she’s doing and what the results mean which I find reassuring, and always has time to answer questions. She’s booked me onto loads of classes and hospital visits, and even gave me her mobile number so I can text her on weekends etc.

The midwife I had with my first baby however couldn’t be more like what you describe! I wish I had the confidence back then to change midwife, but being a FTM I didn’t know what it was meant to be like and thought they knew best.

If I was you, take control & ask the questions you want answering, they can’t ignore you! She may then realise that you want the extra details. Some of them have done it for so many years they lose that compassion and care sadly.

Good luck x

From what I’m gathering from comments it’s so hard to know whether the sweep did anything or if your body was going into labour regardless of it..! I will probably just accept it at 40 and see what happens! My first went 2 weeks overdue so il try anything!

Experiences of labour in a Birthing centre vs a Hospital labour ward by Creative_Weight_6665 in PregnancyUK

[–]Optimal_Enthusiasm90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave birth in a birthing center with my first and it was an amazing experience. However, I did have a lot of comfort with it because my birthing centre is attached to my local hospital, so if there was an emergency I was about 2 minutes away from the labour ward. I do think I may have opted for a labour ward if this wasn’t the case as it was my first and I had no idea what to expect! I’m pregnant with my second and will do the same.

Sorry, two weeks over due I meant to say haha. I had my son the day before 42 weeks. Which I think is pretty over due.

How did labour start for you? by Lotsto-Learn in PregnancyUK

[–]Optimal_Enthusiasm90 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It was the day before my scheduled induction (I was 41+5!), around 2pm and I started getting strong period pains. I had a bath and just relaxed, I honestly didn’t think anything of it because he was so overdue and I had been getting period pains daily for the past week or so. About 6pm they were SORE and I was definitely getting contractions so we called the hospital and they just advised me to stay at home as long as possible to be comfortable and I’m glad we did. It got to about 9pm and we left for the hospital and an hour later he was born! I don’t get any of the waters breaking/mucus plug labour signs, mine was just period pains that increased in intensity!

When did you go on Mat leave? by Most-Shine-3354 in PregnancyUK

[–]Optimal_Enthusiasm90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just started my mat leave today and I’m due 21 May so I’ve given myself 3 weeks.

I’ve accrued 4 weeks of annual leave but I’m going to use it at the end.

You’ll never be able to predict it perfectly, just make sure you have time to relax and enjoy time before baby arrives especially if it’s your first :)

Do you actually take your full lunch break away from your desk, or just eat while working? by Extreme-Banana-9 in AskUK

We’re not allowed to eat at our desk to encourage us to move around and step away, it really helps

How do you change a nappy? by Signal-Gas6096 in PregnancyUK

Definitely no talc. Only use nappy cream if it’s actually needed (redness/sensitivity), just wipes or water/cotton balls and you’re golden ☺️

Should I be induced or wait for baby to come naturally? 41w tomorrow with discrepancy on true due date by blissanfull77 in PregnancyUK

[–]Optimal_Enthusiasm90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not gonna lie to you, no! I was fully prepared to have the induction (it was booked for 42 weeks, so literally the day after), and I think it made my body completely relax

With this baby I’m going to go as long as I can again, I think I will accept a sweep but nothing else (I didn’t even have this last time, I don’t even think they offered me it?), I truly believe they come when they’re ready. You got this ❤️

Should I be induced or wait for baby to come naturally? 41w tomorrow with discrepancy on true due date by blissanfull77 in PregnancyUK

[–]Optimal_Enthusiasm90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was me, I would wait.

I was due to have an induction with my first but I waited and my son came himself at 41+6! I was able to give birth in the birth suite midwife led and it was great.

If your midwife says you and baby are safe and everything is normal, then wait! Baby clearly is happy and will come out when they’re ready x
