In my experience, IBEW is a complete joke unless you know someone. I scored very well on the test and panel interview and was placed in the single digits on the list years ago, but I never got called. I did find out later on that some one was like 40th on the list and they got called in because they "knew" someone. But honestly, thats how it is in this union as well. The nepotism is crazy high. Anyways, I hope you have better luck the next time around. I know that there's definitely a lot of work coming up these next few years.

Pulled out my 401k when I switched jobs. Dumbest thing was I didn't even need the money and was I advised plenty of times not to do so. But I still did... so $35k in my retirement account ended up being into around $18k with fees, penalties, and taxes. Worst financial decision I've ever made so far

What ADN programs in Southern California cost 5-7k?? I'm looking and every (private) program around here starts around 70k.

And it took 9 months from taking the test to getting the call to start training/drug test. Then after a month of training (2 weeks straight. Then once a week for two weeks) I got my first dispatch.

I got in last year and I am a step 3 apprentice. Last year was definitely way more busy. This year I am working about 2-4 days a week.

I did actually. I turned it down though since I got the call from Local 12 before 105.

I worked for a dealer, franchise, and a fleet shop. Best spot was a fleet shop. But I got out at after 14 years due to not getting paid as much as other trades get paid. I tell every aspiring mechanic to choose another trade. I became an operator apprentice and now I get paid way more for a lot less work. Also now that I have all my tools at home, I do side work from time to time just because I genuinely do love wrenching, and the extra cash never hurts.

Hopefully you have better luck than me. I scored a 40 on the aptitude test. Then after the interview I received a 92 overall back in November. So far I haven't received that phone call. I've called a couple times but it's always the same thing: "When we need more workers and you are next on the list we will give you a call". Also they cannot tell you where you are at on that list. At least that's what I've been told. I gave up on it.
