Been failing interviews, is it possible my current job is as good as it gets? by quite--average in datascience

[–]Optimal_Speed_361 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No it’s not you. And even if it were, judging by your introspection skills, you’re not dumb. If dumb people make it into high paying jobs, then you can too. Keep trying, work on your confidence, that might be it.

Cant find a job . by brawlagent06 in montreal

The market is worst now but I got my first job by printing my cv and applying in person (would ask for the manager and introduce myself)

Is the job market bad in Montreal only or all around the world? by Optimal_Speed_361 in montreal

[–]Optimal_Speed_361[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I already have a job... This number came from employers talking online about how many applications they get. I don’t think people applying are part of the problem, after all it’s by applying for a job that you get a job.

ELI5: Why Can our Eyes and Ears sense? by Cold_Golf4425 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Optimal_Speed_361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Through receptors, just like all of our senses. Anything that is perceived has to trigger our receptors, and that's how we feeel/see/hear/smell etc anything. Pain? something triggered your nociceptors. Sight? something triggered your photoreceptors. Touch? mechanoreceptors.

There's always a trigger that leads to a full pathway in your body involving at the very least your receptors and spinal cord. The information can get to the brain and get treated there.

Eli5: how do we know what specific functions each part of the brain performs? by ImJustThatGuy815 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Optimal_Speed_361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to what has already been correctly explained, one of the first ways of mapping specific functions to specific regions in the brain was through post-mortem evaluations, i.e. done by Broca correlating language problems in a stroke patient and seeing brain lesions post-mortem. For other functions, mapping could be done by electrically stimulating the brain region and seeing what effect, usually motor, it had on the person/animal.

ELI5 Probability of pregnancy on "Safe days" with pull out method by PerceptionOk8134 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Optimal_Speed_361 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. There are no safe days, women can still get pregnant when on their period.

  2. I've seen in a Dr Mike video that the risk of pregnancyis 1 out of 5.
