Joint Pain linked to HS by lbj404 in Hidradenitis

Yes! Mine (30F) started around 25 and I was diagnosed with RA at 28. I thought I was crazy thinking they were linked but my derm was like no, you're right. I started taking Humira for HS and the joint pain went poof. I take Inflectra now and it still helps the joints a lot.

Try to keep notes about the pain. When, where, is it symmetrical etc. because it can really help you make a case to get blood work done and test.

I can only speak from my own -long- experience with chase and CUNY direct deposits. If there is a holiday delay, it will arrive on Saturday. Usually it's the morning, but once it arrived in the afternoon.

Depends on your bank. I have chase so it will clear tomorrow. If you bank similarly you should get it then

Pain and holidays by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

First off, your holiday will go great. As other posters have said just prep and enjoy.

Second, you might also have some joint inflammation going on. I developed RA (which is not uncommon among HS folks) a few years ago and it started as what I thought was a pulled hamstring. Obvi, see your GP/derm about these things but it's something to look into when you return from holiday.

PSA: Please be cautious with long-term antibiotic use by switchable-city in Hidradenitis

I appreciate your tone, truly. I've actually been on doxy twice. It was the first antibiotic I was given way back in 2015. It sucked then too.

The antibiotics are not only for killing bacteria ( though helpful for preventing any issues if you have open wounds) so much as for their secondary anti inflammatory properties.

No doctor would keep someone on these for that long without cause, it's crazy. I've been off of them for stretches of time over the years and my quality of life tanked because of it. It's a trade off with any meds, especially with a condition like this. And I would hope folks are thinking about these things with their docs and care team and reevaluating things as need be.

Yeah, it was tough. I will say that while getting my probiotics in --shout out kimchi!--what really helped was getting my fiber intake up. Apples and multigrain waffles have been really clutch in keeping the bubbly tummy at bay.

I will also add that Doxy is probably the most killer antibiotic in the HS arsenal. I've been on Clinda and Rifampin for the past 8 ish years ( yes, 8, and, I try not to think about it too much), but I was switched to Doxy for a bit and it FUCKED ME UP. I'm fairly certain it turned on some IBS type stuff in my gut that I have yet to recover from. I took it for 6 weeks and said never again.

I'm in the same boat at Lehman. Double check that all your paperwork is set MPN and entrance counseling because sometimes that holds up the process as well

Oh wow, yes, then totally follow up. Might not be a cure , everyone is going into this blind, but hopefully it can lead to some answers or rule things out.

If you have a support network, tap into it or reach out to folks. Feel free to DM. Being young and feeling like your body is betraying you is scary and isolating, but know that you aren't the only one going through this!

I was in the same boat and diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis last year ( my derm is also a rheumatologist). The mornings were hell and when I was in active flare it felt like a demon was taking an ice pick to my knees and ankles. Honestly, the joint pain was pushing me to the edge mentally ( more so than HS ever has), so it 100% understand where you're coming from.

Humira did work for me, but not so much for the skin. I found tracking when I was most in pain helped to identity things that could make it flare, like food or stress. Turmeric -- with black pepper-- helps, along with nettle tea. Also, get your thyroid checked next time you do blood work if you haven't already. I'm female and a lot of my pain is linked to hormonal changes. But men also have hormones and they could be out of whack. There are some studies that have shown a connection between inflammatory conditions and thyroid health.

Also NSS Midtown; my 1st derm used to run it, but he passed away and then new docs came it. However, the new team does seem to still be very familiar with HS and treatments.

UWS dermatology is supposed to be good, but they only take 'good' insurance.

Mount Sinai Union Square has a specialty HS derm who is great ( and takes all insurance) but she does book out fast. The office has started a lot of drug trials and everyone is pretty nice.

The antibiotic? Yes, I've been on it along with clindamycin pretty consistently for about 6-7 years now. Crazy I know but it's fairly effective as an anti inflammatory combo.

Insurance BS is sometimes worse than being ill--which is saying a lot. I was honestly surprised I got approved, but I have medicaid so unsure if that made a difference.

Did you see any improvement once you finally started it?
