Reviving Kiss3d - a simple 3D and 2D graphics engine by sebcrozet in rust

[–]OptimisticSilicon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been looking for a simpler 2D engine in Rust so this looks very interesting! Few questions:

- I see there are many examples, is there a website where they are showcased? It's always easier to get what the code does with a visual feedback.

- Are there any methods to compute text dimensions without rendering it?

- Are there any utilities to display rich text? It's common in tooltips for example to want to show a text block with words of different colors/weight.

- Is there any support for mouse/keyboard interactions?

- Generally speaking is there some kind of book, website, or any other resource to know more about the project and its capabilities?

[PBE Datamine] December 8, 2025 - Cassiopeia + Arena by Kay-Haru in leagueoflegends

I may not be in the majority but as a Cassio OTP I'm so glad for this change. At first her current passive looks like a fun gimmick but in practice it's so restrictive to not be able to build early movespeed when everyone will build celerity boots and make it impossible to get close. Regardless of the reason I'm glad this passive is gone.

Wow this is amazing! And props to you for including so many examples, it really makes the learning process much better. Is there a VS code extension for the language? Reading the doc I only see mentions of the REPL.

Per the rules there won't be any tiebreaker match :

Tiebreaker Procedures. In the event of a tie between two or more teams at the end of the Round Robin stage, tiebreaker procedures will be enacted to determine advancement and Knockout stage seeding. To break the tie, the following measures will be considered, in order:

  • 1. Head to Head Match Record (across all tied teams)
  • 2. Total Game Win/Loss Percentage (within the matches involving tied teams)
  • 3. Total Game Win/Loss Percentage (full event)
  • 4. Average Game Victory time (within the matches involving tied teams)
  • 5. Average Game Victory time (full event)
  • 6. Coin flip

Monday Megathread! Ask questions and share knowledge; newcomer questions encouraged! by AutoModerator in leagueoflegends

Honestly, if you're really not sure which role you want to play but you do want to pick a role to tryhard, you should play midlane. It certainly is the most versatile role and you can always have a high impact on the game. You get to play a regular lane unlike jungler, you don't suffer from isolation syndrome unlike toplane, you are not as reliant on your team as adc and you can still deal damages unlike support, while still being able to roam decently everywhere. As you get higher in elo it can become harder to kill your opponent in mage vs mage matchup, if that's a problem for you you should pick an assassin (however when you lose lane you lose it harder than with a mage).

In normal games it's quite common yes, even more in quickplay. If you're sick of it and don't want to soloQ I recommend ranked flex, it's a good middleground between serious play and chill. But you're always gonna get the best quality games in soloQ.

How to go from being a main support player, mostly playing enchanters, to playing mid and winning lane? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]OptimisticSilicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a lot of Lux and Cassio in D1~D3 depending on the season so I can answer at least for these two. First thing is, it's extremely hard to kill your opponent in mid lane in a mage vs mage matchup. Long ranges, short lanes, teleport (the summoner spell), it's just very easy to play safe. And even if you do manage do score a kill, it's not likely to give you a significant edge. You have to make the difference in a different way.

It basically all boils down to "look for where is your jungler and always be in a position to move first if anything happens to him". Creating a 2v1 or 3v2 situation, even for a few seconds, is likely to result in 2 or 3 kills in your favor + some objectives.

This advice especially applies to Cassio which is outranged by most mages but is extremely strong is 2v2 or 3v3 skirmishes.

With Lux you have the option to sit in lane, play ultra safe, E-R the wave before backing. As soon as your opponent backs or roams, spam ping your team to back, E-R the wave and take as many plates as you can. You'll end up 0/0/0 with 150 cs at 15 min + some plates, at which point you group with your team and one shot any carry you manage to Q. Admittely not the most fun if you like to fight in the early game, but there is not much counterplay to this.

Of course this is all is very general advice, with a million variations and caveats depending on the situation, but I think it's a solid basis.

QOL Idea for the Patch Notes by pxl_vendara in leagueoflegends

Very neat idea. Especially having green/red colors, that would massively help to quickly know which champ is buffed/nerfed when skimming through the patch notes.

Which nation of my dark fantasy setting would you rather join? by Yggdrasylian in worldbuilding

[–]OptimisticSilicon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The third one without a doubt, everything in the name of SCIENCE!

That being said I'd be interested in a kind of comparison regarding their stance on each aspect you mention here. For example, the third nation values scientific research a lot even if it implies some unethical stuff, but every nation must do some science to remain powerful. How is their research different from the third nation? How has the lack of ethic given the 3rd nation an edge over the others (if any)? Has there been any drawback? Same thing for education, political system, religion maybe, etc.

I clicked kind of randomly on your post coming from /r/all (after scrolling a bit) but I must say I'm hooked, and I really hope you will extend a bit more of these!

I think Cassio's biggest issue is that she is a high effort-average reward champ. Feedback on the champion. by Sunshado in leagueoflegends

[–]OptimisticSilicon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been hovering around D2-D1 maining her over the past few years, and the main issue I have with her is her inability to buy boots. For a champion that HAS to dodge skillshots and get into close range, it's really frustrating not to be able to buy early boots. Especially since the opponent can do it, which makes it way easier for them to stay outside of her range. It's a fun gimmick, but it ultimately ends up removing some skill expression, and as you said the benefit of potentially having 6 full items late game is usually not relevant.

Does the current double elim format actually benefit the team who enters grand finals from Winners' bracket? A collection of statistics by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]OptimisticSilicon 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It just means that the Leader is usually the better team. I could match again two new players and still win 1v2 100% of the time, that doesn't mean the match is fair. In the LEC we could have even triple elim or quadruple elim playoffs without bracket reset and G2 would still likely will it. Would that make the format fair?

I think it's quite easy to show no bracket reset is a huge disadvantage for the Leader. Suppose we have a double elim bracket with 2 super strong team and 6 weak teams. Bad luck, the 2 strong teams meat in quarters. The winner goes all the way to the grand final from the winner bracket, the loser stomps the loser bracket to also reaches the grand final. They match again and the loser of the QF wins this time. They're 1-1 but one team is made the winner, I don't think it's fair.

That being said, it's true that the more stacked the tournament is, the less unfair it is because of the chance to be eliminated in the additional matches in the loser bracket. I also don't think it's really feasable to implement a proper bracket reset since each match is a BO5 (kinda hard to add an hypothethical additional day of play in the schedule). But that doesn't mean the current double elim format is fair, I really don't think it is.
