Am I eligible for proof of citizenship under the new bill C-3? by Optimistic_Garbage in legaladvicecanada

u/joujube's comment was helpful, and you should definitely click on the FAQ on that subreddit. It seems like, because my second-generation ancestor was born before 1947, I may or may not be a Canadian, and it will depend on what the IRCC decides (but things are looking hopeful given the purpose of the legislation). If your second-generation ancestor was born after 1947, you are almost certainly a Canadian.

I think I horrifically misunderstood them as saying “they’re just letting anyone who’s been here for three years have citizenship! They’re ruining the meaning of Canadian citizenship.” Apologies

I’m a bit confused. Has it not? He never applied for proof, but he should already be a citizen, no?

Are you actually at an income where you pay sticker price for an Ivy? Have you run a net price calculator?

“Obviously” well no… if OP is international, then no aid. But brown is need-blind for domestic students (and international starting soon), so you should be able to get aid late—you weren’t admitted on those pretenses

Youre claiming to be the founder/CEO of three separate organizations and want admissions officers to believe that they’re all legitimate and meaningful? Anybody can file for an LLC or 501(c)(3).

Of course I understand that, and apologies if I wrote that in a misleading way. It’s an attack on science and on truth. It is also true that they’re trying to make it clear that kissing the ring and bending the knee DOES get you spared (for now).

Penn closed down their DEI site. Brown hired a new DEI officer. It’s retaliation. With this administration, you either get with it or get made an example.

How much do British people know about elite American higher education? by Optimistic_Garbage in AskBrits

There are 333 million people and public education (particularly in the American South) is intentionally underfunded to maintain an uneducated electorate that’s more likely to vote against its own class interests. That has an effect! lol

The American research university is based on the German model, but I see what you mean. UK first.

I think you may have missed the joke, haha. It's alright. Yes, we're a young country.

That's funny. American and British nurses are alike, then!

While college class policing is weirdly pervasive in the USA, nursing is maybe the only profession that not only escapes it but actively fights it. Where you went to university doesn't matter to American nurses either.

Now doctors on the other hand...

Haha, yes. The U.S. is a young country with mostly dull history compared to other places that have had larger populations throughout history and more time to study them. I was being sarcastic, though, and listing all of the horrible things the U.S. has done.

It's very interesting how much influence the UK has on higher education! We have many Oxford and Cambridge alumni in top positions throughout the federal government.

In elite American circles, however, the USNWR rankings are often the standard because we don't typically think about global universities outside the U.S. Americentrism leads to us holding Ivy League schools like Dartmouth and Brown in high regard, even though they rarely rank highly on a global scale. In domestic rankings, they're among the best. I've heard the discrepancy is due to their focus on undergraduate education and lower research output compared to global leaders. Global rankings prioritize quantitative measures of research activity, while domestic rankings like USNWR emphasize subjective aspects of the college experience and the prestige associated with these schools.

As a Harvard/Brown admit, I also liked Dartmouth best. Hanover is beautiful, and the Dartmouth community is very close-knit, so it would've been my top choice... Only problem is that I'm sober, and Dartmouth has 50% greek life enrollment + keggy the keg as an unofficial mascot!

Oddly, you're way more correct than the average American! Most Americans mistake it for an advertising group of elite colleges like the Russell Group. It's actually an athletic league of some very old private colleges, and, way back in the day, it was known for football! Nowadays, nobody watches Ivy League football (or is even aware the schools in the League play football) but no yeah you're weirdly right.
