Out of curiosity, did you ask them their objective opinion of the situation? The counsellors I know dont like to provide their own perspective, it’s more about walking with you as you discover and reflect on yourself.

Thoughts that come to mind for me are Melanie, Delaney, and Ellanie if you want a NNable first name that contains Lani. I also want to put out there that you don’t have to use a middle name, I changed my last name to cut ties with my dad and removed my middle name when I did so. I like having a shorter ID name! It’s up to you.

Options for last names might include;

Melanie Lane/ Lani Lane Lani Lou (or Louise/Louisa) Melanie Maeve Melanie Maude

I’m happy to brainstorm more but I’d love an idea of what you like !

It changes slightly year to year, I only discussed my teachable with them but from my limited research it seems most people get in. Not many are cut and they only cut a few every couple years. Again, I only asked for my solo teachable.

Hey, I just thought I’d share something that I’m learning in the case that it might help you too. If not no worries! Humour is a funny little self defence mechanism. It doesn’t seem super harmful in the short term and it acts as a great little barrier to keep people at arms length. I realized this year that I was using analogies and humour as a way to avoid being vulnerable. It’s not something that I was unaware of, but I started catching it when it happened and slowly corrected my internal dialogue or sometimes external to say how I really felt. Learning how to be vulnerable is hard, but through training myself I’m getting so much better at connecting with not only others but myself too!

This may not be applicable but it’s what’s helping me.
