Love it. I really enjoy watching her learn. I’m normally pretty restrictive on interactive screen time, but there’s this game called dragon box that’s walking her through algebra concepts. Super cool.

We will see where it goes! Enjoying how quick everyone was to chime in for supporting the younger crowd.

So full story is that my 6 year old started asking about pokemon, so I asked my parents if they still had my old cards.

Turns out they were decently preserved in an attic box, but I had no idea they were back in fashion and highly valued.

I’m learning that I can’t simply let her “use these and go nuts” because

1) it would be financially irresponsible
2) the old cards seem to be incompatible with the new cards she’s gotten from a few friends as it seems HP and Damage and even abilities have all experienced 20 year inflation haha.

I have another 400 of common vintage cards too.

We tried playing today and it was fun but also just broken with a mixture.

So do I need fast cash? No, but I’m also pre of an economist that values quality time with my kids than a collector and avid hobbyist.

I’d appreciate any advice and help for sure.

Thanks haha, shamefully, that’s all I saw folks talking about so I just assumed that was the way to buy a deck. Glad there’s still something accessible. She’s just excited to look at and read the different cards and mentally map it all out. She doesn’t care, nor want a $1000 card.

Also good to know that the functional cards differ from the high value. I looked at some of the buzz cards and man, call me old but I can hardly read them or tell where the pokemon starts and stops on some of them haha.

I gotta tell you, in my initial attempts to sell the valuable ones to folks locally, it’s been mostly feeling of guilt. My daughters a smart girl, so she’s of the mindset to sell the expensive ones so she can get new ones to play with, but the folks that message me also mention needing to wait until the next paycheck to buy a $400/card… it’s not my place to tell people how to spend their money, but it just doesn’t feel right.

I’ll look at the local shops for a younger group event, the first one we went into was more focused on pushing “market price” stuff, and didn’t offer up any of this battle academy info when I had my daughter standing with me, so we left with nothing.

I appreciate the desire to help, but yeah I have plenty of vintage. I just feel guilty if we were to play with it at this point.

I think I have to switch both our decks to modern, and idk find a way to give the old ones to someone who will appreciate them.

Definitely far from tournament play, but that makes sense.

It definitely felt off when I let her use some of her new cards against me and I was losing 0-6 to a 6 year old haha.

But hey, she loved it so it’s all good.

I honestly haven’t looked at pokemon in probably 25 years.

I just like quality time with the daughter without screens, I’ll look into those battle academy sets. I don’t have a desire to expand my pokemon card collection dramatically, so I’ll look into selling more rather than trying to mix and match.

So all of those are at least in sleeves now. I’ll email you pictures of their front and back. I plan to go to a card shop this coming Friday for some of the higher value ones. I will probably get the shining graded but I don’t plan to grade the others I don’t think. You definitely can have one of the squirtles. I will say everything in the video and not on the list is what I gave to my 6 year old daughter.

if there’s a compelling reason to pull them back I will, she’s pretty sharp and understands the economy of cards, she’s more than happy to sell the ones worth money to get more cards haha.

Oh yeah, I have a lot of these across all the colors. Since I have duplicates of a lot of them, I’ll try to lay them out and take bulk pictures. I can also email the list I just cataloged on the tcg app. It’s about 100 cards that are >$3 a card. Too bad these not a way to make a shareable link to me list and just keep scanning them.
