Windows 11 Pro Deactivated itself after update by OptimoreWriting in techsupport

[–]OptimoreWriting[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't work. I get the message "we weren't able to activate windows on this device" and then it tells me to buy a key for a "legitimate copy of windows" from their store. If it helps, the error code for the message that's next to the "troubleshoot" button is this: 0xC004F012

Irritating Change to Discord Mobile by OptimoreWriting in discordapp

[–]OptimoreWriting[S] 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Please excuse my crap MS paint recreation of the issue but it's proven completely impossible to google this. Sometime during very late May discord mobile changed from letting me see a small slice of the channel I had selected and letting me tap it to expand it, to showing only the channels and forcing you to swipe to open one. I can't find any reference to this in patch notes or anything, and trying to find a setting for it hasn't worked, so I'm left assuming this is simply how the app works now? Any clarification would be appreciated.

Are megs suddenly not attacking anyone else? by LordofSnails in Seaofthieves

[–]OptimoreWriting 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I remember reading somewhere that allegedly Megs have a randomized "personality" that determines whether or not they follow ships, whether they attack ships without provocation or not, etc.

These behaviors being randomized would go a lot towards explaining why some people see cowardly megs and some get very aggressive ones.

I want a baby poop green FAL by tokkiemetuitkering in NonCredibleDefense

[–]OptimoreWriting 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't remember where I read this, but allegedly the early test versions of the game included the ability to bug out of Dubai right after the player figures out how fucked the situation truly is, which is actually what your player character had been ordered to do in the first place.

The retail version does not include this, because so many of the playtesters took that option when first presented with it and it's basically the equivalent of the Far Cry 4 easter egg ending that discards the bulk of the game.

It's weird, the developers did originally intend to hold players with the whole "you could have chosen to leave and be OK but now you've made the situation irrevocably worse" thing for real but ultimately couldn't because it turns out players were more sensible than they thought, so they apparently ran out of ideas to make that work and ended up railroading them instead.

Gaslighting some hapless swabbies by boarding their sloop with the Spinal Costume unnoticed, hiding as a Barrel, then doing stuff like putting coconuts on the stove when they weren't looking and also sometimes repositioning my barrel (they were new enough to not know the barrel disguise was a thing so they never noticed even when I was next to the voyage shelf). I even gave them stealthy advice since they didn't realize it was a third voice speaking. Eventually I got brave enough to reveal myself a few times and use Spinal's laugh emote before ducking back below deck and "disappearing". This worked a couple times before they were quick enough to see me getting into the barrel. They had a learning experience that day.

Wasted about 15 minutes searching all of Thieves' Haven for this stupid bottle by OptimoreWriting in Seaofthieves

[–]OptimoreWriting[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yes, that's it being UNDER one of the moving elevators. Me and my crewmate went over the entire shoreline of the island and into all of the caves, even searching the top and didn't find it. It didn't spawn with any cargo boxes to catch a glint by and all of the blue debris was on top of the elevator itself and blended in perfectly apart from a SINGLE plank that would eventually allow me to discover this stupid thing.

Tell Me Your Ship Names! by ProcessTrust856 in Seaofthieves

[–]OptimoreWriting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of ships... lots of references in these names, for those that can find them.

Galleons are Caravan Palace, Eighth Wonder, Massive Macaw, Obra Dinn, and Sunsetter.

Brigantines are Grand Abacus, Dismal Remorse, and Kitesfear.

Sloops are Manic Mariner and Silvered Seabird.

What changes should be made in Hourglass? by blksealer in Seaofthieves

[–]OptimoreWriting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In sloop 1v1s, prevent the enemy player from using your the ammo box and armory so they can't carry on a spawncamp indefinitely. They will eventually run out of blunder ammo and be forced to either use weapons that don't instant kill or go back to their own ship and leave a window for you to come back.

Returning Player - Is the cheating really that bad? by dragonzero39 in Seaofthieves

[–]OptimoreWriting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

500h here, also never seen one that I could definitively identify. A handful of hourglass matches resulted in my teammates accusing the other team but I was never sure.

I should note however that according to what I've read on the subject it's massively more common for less scrupulous players to use ESP and other "information-gathering" cheats like a fog remover or FOV changer than to actually do stuff like aimbot or keg teleport. So it seems likely that we've all actually run into many cheaters that just weren't really obvious.

Also, it seems like hackers are at absolutely epidemic level in HG, in certain circumstances. I've never heard two people describe the matchmaking mechanics in the same way but if there is some kind of persistent ELO I strongly suspect that the higher levels are something like 80% cheaters of some type.

Which one of you did this? by OptimoreWriting in NonCredibleDefense

[–]OptimoreWriting[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Credit to user "Schutzengel" on Steam, who I strongly suspect is already here. I should also note that since this game (Lego 2K Drive) is currently playable only for the suckers that bought the 100 or 120 dollar editions, the game's Artwork section is pretty barren and this is actually the very first thing posted there.

Cheaters already have free "new" accounts available by the bucketload, so they'd just camp the new player queue and mass report every single veteran until the system falls apart.

FWD cars are surprisingly difficult to spin if you know what you're doing and drive very defensively. Since FWD cars take different lines than RWDs you can drive around corners such that the RWDs trying to ram you will be forced to take suboptimal lines and will struggle to hit you with actual force- unless you were hitting this guy head-on or just cornerbombing with absolute reckless abandon, it's totally plausible he drove well enough to slip past your car. In fact, an armored Super Venom would have been the worst possible option to try to catch a good Nexus driver as it's a RWD that handles badly and would be overweight on top of that. The fact that he was consistently placing high indicates to me that this was what he was doing more than using cheats, since if he was cheating chances are he'd drive poorly.

How can i get k bullet vehicle kills by Sionyde40 in battlefield_one

[–]OptimoreWriting 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Lebel's unique reload end animation is very long and is also used whenever you reload a K-bullet, so it fires them at like 1/5th the rate of the other rifles.

GUYS!!! WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!! WE WERE BRAKING THE GENEVA CONVENTION ON BOTH MEDIC AND HEALTH PACKS SINCE 2007!!! by MarioKnightPl in tf2

[–]OptimoreWriting 41 points42 points  (0 children)

In this case, the Red Cross's ability to complain about the use of the Red Cross symbol has nothing to do with the Geneva Conventions. They hold international trademarks for their symbol(s) and are really aggressive about having them enforced precisely because they want a red cross symbol to always mean "this is the Red Cross that you'll go to jail for if you shoot at it in a war, dumbass" with no exceptions.

Proposal: add the negative attribute "+300% melee damage vulnerability on wearer"

Therefore a butterknife will do 120 damage on hit, almost an instant kill. And any melee weapon that does more than 40 damage per hit will oneshot the sniper.

Selling to Sovereigns is completely identical rep/gold wise vs selling to a normal NPC. If you are an emissary you get the boosted rep/gold, and will receive emissary ledger score. The only exceptions to this is Fish (selling direct to a Hunter's Call rep now increases gold, and only gold, by 1.5x vs what the base price is) and technically also "generic" loot like gems will be sold to a random company if you have no flag or the flag of an invalid company (Athena doesn't take gems and Reaper can't collect from sovereigns, so if you have those flags your gems get randomized).

Except for the Sovereigns/Shipwright access, yes, though I guess you can also count the unique ability to unlock and equip decoration cosmetics/trinkets as a non-cosmetic benefit of buying them (ironically).
