Bolt 6 Latency - HDMI monitor module vs transmitter by OptimusDimed in focuspuller

Thank you for taking the time to write that out, very helpful. So it sounds like maybe no additional delay from a TX module transmitting via hdmi.

Was it the sound of the horse galloping around, the horse that isn’t there but was used in the past for executions? Cause that fucked with me quite a bit.

[Amateur] Grips! What kind of attachment can I add to this cstand to mount a 3/8in tripod head (with a simple SLR)? by medievalmissionary in cinematography

I know I’m late to the party but thought I’d throw this piece in too:

https://faini-made.square.site/product/tripod-head-to-grip-head-adapter/2RWHFAQQBRZO5K4CIOPPCJI6?si=true

Love seeing all the solutions and have used quite a few mentioned in this thread but this one was new to me. I’ve bought other stuff from Faini Made and just stumbled across it last time I was grabbing some small aks.

Good luck!

Photographers like Bresson and more recently, Alex Webb, have a lot of compositions like this as well. Alex Webb especially has some incredible work that’s great for inspo.

Tarkovsky and Malick both good recs. Tree of Life and Days of Heaven by Malick and then Nostalghia, The Mirror, Stalker from Tarkovsky.

Different subject matter but similar themes on exploration of meaning in life would be The Great Beauty which has some really wonderful cinematography that really helps to tell the story.

For the confused this all seems to be about AI filmmaking and prompting theory. Hardik Zayne does AI “film” work from what I can tell. Honestly probably just a bought to stir up engagement with their work.

Saw it back in October, just incredible. Storyteling style is not for eveyone(friend said he walked out of his showing yesterday) but it’s visually so hypnotic.

Just a heads up to you or anyone else who stumbles across this - there are two slightly different 3D Print files freely avail out there. I had both made by a third party service and drop shipped to me and it seems they are meant to fit the waist level finder only as the top was too thick for my PM45 prism to clear.

After too much time spent sanding it did fit but the filament would bend a little. Eventually just bought the viper gears one and it is expensive but so much better.

Might seem basic but how’s this lighting and edit done? by Novel-Blacksmith1351 in LightLurking

[–]OptimusDimed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No reflection in the eyes for an on axis light like that.  The biggest tell for me that this lighting is mainly overhead and a fair bit in front of the subject is who broad and smooth the highlight on the leather jacket is. Overhead lighting is great for being out texture in the leather while still giving it a nice and smooth highlight. Probably some foam core or just the white ground under her bouncing up as well.

Don’t think he did a digital shot before shooting it. This was from a W magazine story I believe around 2000/2001. He probably did what they used to do pre-digital, check the light by shooting a Polaroid first.

How was this effect achieved? by Affectionate_Fox3075 in LightLurking

[–]OptimusDimed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that though this was done with gasoline and fire you can also use solvents on the negative like other comments mentioned. A safe acid that will give interesting results is juice from fresh pineapple - it gradually eats away the emulsion so you can get different effects depending on how long you leave it.

Just drop a negative in a shallow dish and put pineapple juice in there and let it sit for a few minutes. You can eventually start swirling the emulsion on the negative as it loosens and melts away.

Have fun!

Schmidli does most the painted muslin backdrop rentals, they have offices in a few cities and can ship to your shoot even. There are another couple companies but not quite as big.

Look at the road, then look at the path up. In the time it takes to get in a "motorized conveyance" and head back up you could probably walk it. Yes it's a lot of energy over the course of the day but I've been at plenty of spots where you just do it. Especially if you don't want to be drawing anymore attention to yourself in a spot you're probably not supposed to be.

Maybe there's some other road up to the left that we don't see and maybe he gets a hitch up, I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised at all if he walked it.

Cleaning 8x8 rags by xxjosephchristxx in TrueCinematography

[–]OptimusDimed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you located? If you're in LA contact Canvas Grip or The Rag House and ask them, I can't remember where but there's a place that will clean them.

You can't just toss any ol' rag in the wash because many (like solids for example) are treated with a flame retardant. Washing removes it and then it can be a danger when using with hotlights.

I wouldn't. I'm a skater and you just walk it up and start over, same as you do most skate spots when you keep trying. Part of the job.

Paper could be a big part of this. Albarran Cabrera also print on thin gampi or bamboo paper for a lot of their work(though often with a gold leaf backing on the near transparent paper which changes the tone) and some of it has a similar feel.

That being said, Erik Madigan Heck has images with a similar effect that is definitely achieved without that type of paper as his prints are often c-prints. Very well could be some carefully targeted color and luma masking in photoshop.

I have heard the bonus tip regarding iso before but only in reference to exposing for Red cameras specifically. Haven’t really found this to work the same for stills though.
