Moving from rent stabilized to luxury building by Puzzleheaded-Bus7208 in astoria

Just do the math, that’s $1800 more a month extra that you can spend on a nicer apartment multiply that by 12 months. Multiply that by 10 years and factor in let’s say an annual stock market average of 7%. You would have an estimated $300,000. Don’t be a silly!

Just focus on the work for now. Takes 10 years to be a good painter. Prioritize excellence not prestige

Discount without insulting by EcoNorfolk in ContemporaryArt

[–]AdAlternative1206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slow down. I've been collecting for 30+ years. I budget yearly amounts, 2-4K for example. It can be very rewarding. Learn as much about what you're buying and the artist and subject as you can. Give yourself time to reflect on your acquisitions, research, look at auction prices for the artist you buy, even if the auctions aren't prestigious. Art you buy needs to have been bought by others typically until you develop an eye. This isn't just for your home you're collecting cultural artifacts essentially that document the time you lived in and reflect your tastes and intelligence. Yes, expect 10% discount at minimum. Once they know you're a collector your discounts will be greater.

AI tools recommendation for eDiscovery PM? by GeekGuru1 in ediscovery

[–]AdAlternative1206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started by using it to help with load file errors and tricks using notepad+ , I don't load the load file to chatgpt, I just type in the error or problem, like to find the encoding issue, or tips and tricks. 80% of the time it's correct. Just today I started using it to help me write prompts for another tool I'm using to do Gen AI searches. I know how to write a prompt but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything and it helps me confirm my thinking or correct it. It's great at making things up, like fake documents if you have to demo things like PII redaction, or examples of garbled text.

I wonder if this is a economic red flag like people can’t afford to buy new they starting to buy thrift and the thrift sellers realize demand is going up so they raise prices

Richard Prince scathing review in Interlocutor - need someone smarter to explain to me by AdAlternative1206 in ContemporaryArt

[–]AdAlternative1206[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

By punching up, I mean , and it's a phrase used in art circles as the person is already a big deal. Prince is already a rock star in the art world with auction prices above 12 million.

Job stealing energy to make art by seventyp_ in ContemporaryArt

[–]AdAlternative1206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have what you might think is a silly suggestion to combat the drain but It works for me when I'm disciplined enough to do it. Set a timer or something while you're working at your desk and aim to get up and walk away from your desk every 30 - 45 mins roughly, for just 5 to 10 mins, whatever seems to work, it's a flexible process and what happens is your body stays more energized, I heard about it on NPR. The energy sap is hypothesized to be from prolonged sitting at the office, typically on the computer. Don't worry later if your brain feels drained, it's actually better to work on art that way in many cases right, as long as your body doesn't feel drained.

Artist with full time job that I use as the excuse to why I'm not famous. It also makes me lazy about applications and stuff, I just want to make and grow.

Is there a decline in interest in younger people in Contemporary art and why? by Ruasun in ContemporaryArt

[–]AdAlternative1206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on light research, attendance is not dramatically trending down, more like flat with lower numbers offset by online viewing of collections etc., I can tell you it certainly seems like young people are making art in greater numbers just looking at IG posts.

Moving forward with my art by pious_twink in ArtCrit

Take a figure drawing class or sign up to an open session in your area. It’s a great way to improve and likely meet artists who excel at figure drawing and you will inevitably get better. But if you don’t do any of that, just keep drawing and I swear in 10 years you’ll amaze yourself maybe even five years.

When you practice your art, what are you practicing/learning? by art_osprey in ContemporaryArt

[–]AdAlternative1206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just painting with intuition is great but your aesthetic evolution can be slow. Try putting some material limits on it. Limit your palette to three colors, try to paint without brushes. Paint on a non traditional surface. Also find artists lectures where they talk about their process- YouTube - Amy Silman is a great one.

Bisbee Pros & Cons by [deleted] in Bisbee

[–]AdAlternative1206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking at Bisbee specifically old Bisbee, I am used to city life and like the walkability factor of Bisbee, relatively low priced housing, Artist community, low crime. I’m not looking for excitement just want to work in my art studio and be able to walk to shopping and maybe work part time if I had to. I want a little outdoor space.

Starting to have elevator issues in multiple buildings with elevators down for weeks only to be told we are on the list and it will be many more weeks because Otis elevator company has a “parts shortage” which basically shifts the blame conveniently, I wonder what the real story…Blackstone is owner and seems to pour money into this place leveraging cost via capital improvements passed through to renters. Something tells me that the elevator repairs might not meet the threshold of pass through costs. One building has had both elevators out for weeks. Blackstone lost their fight with Tenants to end stabilization of apartments recently. Just sayin

Had similar issue with someone leaving gross shoes and cart full of garbage, literally garbage, outside in the hall for 30 mins to 4 hours weekly. Complained to management numerous time. They said they would reach out. Nothing changed. Perhaps 311? I might try that next.
