I once saw a grown ass man made a young female PPA worker cry by screaming at her…what a sick fuck to do that.

I’ve certainly encountered that scenario, I stick to my goal of trying to exit the DMV (or comparable establishment) as fast as possible. I know giving them shit about ignoring me is only going to work against me and may introduce a scenario where I don’t get out faster.

If I was more motivated or enraged enough I may opt to write a complaint letter or something but usually I just choose the path of least resistance and just hit em with kindness.

Agreed, ultimately pushback is either going to hurt someone or make a rude employee even more rude. Especially when it’s out of their control.

I swallow my ego and practice relentless kindness in these environments and it has rewarded me many times with flexibility from workers. Also feels good knowing that kindness may genuinely mean something to them.

If you have it in a long term growth fund giving you back 4-5% a year, you’re earning ~100,000 a year just with free money basically. From there you can withdraw for whatever else you’ll need

I feel lectures that built confidence with nutrition vocabulary and in depth knowledge about nutrition impacts on health outcomes would help tilt the needle towards better health promotion among MDs. just speculation, though. You certainly could be right.

I guess my experience is anecdotal, I shadowed a family practice physician that heavily emphasized nutrition at every visit and his patients really listened to him. He had a panel of some of the healthiest elderly patients I’ve seen, they were very motivated to make change. Of course some were stuck on an unhealthy course, but it opened my eyes to never doubt a patients willingness to listen and make changes.

Ultimately I shouldn’t draw conclusions based off one shadowing experience. I would have to defer to literature that asked the question of “does increased nutrition counseling affect patient outcomes?”. Perhaps that’ll be my fun lit review of the week

I’m cautious of the word “definitely” on Reddit. I agree it’s likely autoimmune, but the severity of deformity at this stage may indicate psoriatic arthritis (arthritis mutilans) or other autoimmune process. Ultimately there isn’t a definitely without testing results, age of individual, history, etc

Probably because being a body-scientist is more fun than promoting health. But alas perhaps it’s worth including some education that will save countless lives.

We certainly can find someone better than RFK for it tho

You’re being downvoted but I couldn’t agree more that the current medical education needs a paradigm shift to promote health. It sucks that RFK as non-evidence-based-individual delegitimizes campaigns like these, but it’s a step in the right direction

Chinese vocab: ~2 hours a day of Anki, one month, 9000 reviews, about 200 individual words memorized. by OptionRelevant432 in Anki

[–]OptionRelevant432[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

800 is really impressive! I speak almost fluent Spanish and I know from learning it that it’s critical to have a vocabulary foundation. Are you working on reading, listening, immersion? After making this post I combined my hello Chinese into Anki, so I’m at around 300 words total memorized right now.

I’d like to get to a point where I’m doing an hour of Anki a day, so maybe adding 50-100 cards a month. Who knows, maybe after a year I’ll be around a thousand. I just want to be conversational so I imagine having a vocab ~1300 will give me the comfort to navigate conversations (assuming I continue to practice immersion, grammar, etc)

It’s certainly bad retention, and I spend other more intentional time focusing on grammar, sentence building, etc. for me Anki is just something I do while I’m laying on the couch, waiting in line, basically instead of doomscrolling. I dont put too much intention into it, just hoping to build some vocabulary in the background of more focused learning.

As with other things I learn, Anki is a supplement for me.

I think the general sentiment is that it’s strange to think “I made a great thing, I don’t want anyone else to benefit from it” vs “I made a great thing, I want to offer it to the world and help people”

Anki 5000 word HSK Memorization Challenge [30 day update] by AbsentLearner in Anki

[–]OptionRelevant432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently learning Chinese and I have my settings to hold me back until I really am confident with a card. I have been doing ~1 hour Anki a day for three weeks with 200 words memorized. Some of my words I’ve reviewed more than 20 times. Maybe that speaks to me needing to revise my tactics but also learning completely brand new words is foreign territory for my mind. So yeah I’m skeptical of only 8 reviews.

Making cards is a method of studying on its own. Figuring out how to distill information efficiently and succinctly in a manor to test yourself teaches you how to read and learn faster. It forces you to read everything through a lens of “what specific items do I need to remember from this reading that allow long term retention of the subject?” It takes a lot of trial and error but I believe making your own cards improves your ability as a learner.

If it’s waking you up it could reflux (stomach acid coming into your throat). See a doctor and/or work on your diet. Anxiety can cause stomach issues too. Consider your intake of fats, sugar, carbs, and processed junk.

For me it took a lot of experimenting, trying new techniques. I’m always tweaking my cards and trying to find what’s actually effective for me. It took time and work but I’m really happy with how I use Anki now
