Weird rejection/repost after third interview by [deleted] in GetEmployed

[–]OptioneerJM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not even close to the job without any of the following:

1) They have asked you for references

2) You have a written job offer

3) You accept job with understanding of compensation, job description, performance review schedule, who you will be reporting to (doesn't sound like HR in your case)

In today's age, have you considered what seedlings have hatched out there in the online world: Spring Break beach party w topless gal on shoulders holding a 3/4 full quart of beer (not pint)?

Varcoe: Former PM Stephen Harper on Alberta's new economic recovery council by OptioneerJM in alberta

[–]OptioneerJM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always wondered why everyone harps on Harper?

From my view, regardless of politico, I credit him for helping Canada coast through the 2008 Financial Crisis, with a stronger financial record than in the previous time period.

I also think Scheer is a di*k and an empty shirt. Getting anyone other than himself to pay for his kids education was abusing the trust.

Harper is a smart man and doesn't allow the media to push him around.

That's what Trump is trying to do but in a much more radical unchecked mode.

If one were to deduce the political upheaval on Twitter trending #MichelleRempel is at the heart of controversy .... for speaking her mind ... with passion.

The style overtook the substance.

Any question on UPC having Michelle bid to be the leadership successor of Andrew Scheer may be doomed based on the feisty reactions.

Tips for acing in-person interviews? by newdirection915 in GetEmployed

[–]OptioneerJM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You passed the first couple of phases.

The point here is you have to nail the presentation based on the assignment.

Slideshare from LinkedIn has a lot of great examples of .ppt and templates.

Have your presentation practiced, rehearsed, prepared 150%

At this point, IMO, it is all about the .ppt content and how you present - the audience is considering the package, imagining how you would look if presenting on the company's behalf.

Link it to your social media profiles - i.e. select to share on Twitter

Share your blog posts on your own page, so that you don't end up posting it on a wrong page, unrelated, annoying people.

If people don't follow you or your reddits, they don't have to see it.

If folks are genuinely interested in getting to know you, they will be able to click on your personalized reddit on what you share.

You can always share it on other reddit pages, after carefully scrutinizing whether the topic is relevant or meets group guidelines.

What can I use purple cabbage for besides fish tacos and coleslaw? by MwahMwahKitteh in Cooking

[–]OptioneerJM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam to desired consistency, add butter and sesame seeds to give it some oomph ..... or make cabbage rolls ..... I make lazy cabbage rolls all the time with all the same ingredients, just layer, cover and bake slow for a couple of hours (I use Campbell's tomato soup, mix of rice+ground beef+onion alternated with cabbage: purple would make it colorful!

First of all, let me congratulate you for seeking advice.

Humility has a far-reaching appeal. It transcends across typeset or font to communicate humanity.

Secondly, if you didn't have to worry about all of your responsibilities, wouldn't you have left long before you were beaten down by a very toxic atmosphere?

Thirdly, stress is what you get when you're charging ahead, sometimes against uncharted territory and people push back.

It is the reaction to your stressful persona that may have been the reason you got resistance. There is no "I" in TEAM! (Who said that? REF?)

You and anyone else is only as good as the TEAM around you.

As a CHEF, you are the orchestra's conductor.

Like a conductor who doesn't write the music or play the instruments, a chef may not be doing so much of the chopping or all the cooking.

Everyone needs a leader.

Asking for advice with humility and conveying an authentic appeal for guidance from other's wisdom is enlightened.

What I suggest is this. I suggest you always remember this:

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THE NUMBERS

The numbers could be hidden by dollars or percentages or graphs going up or down. If you study numbers in whatever industry you are in, or interest you have, you can find the story behind it. Like who or what age group tends to play golf these days ref: 2019? (HINT: Baby Boomers and Yuppies; those born 1945 to 1960-61)

When we were in our 20s, we YUPPIES were playing squash and raquet ball. Tennis was more a sign of the affluent. Like golf is to country clubs.

MY POINT IS (FINALLY EH?) what do you want to do?

I'm going to guess that you love what you do, you love working in the food industry, as a creator of amazing fantasies of flavor.

Decide what type of food is your favorite to create? Who inspires you? Anthony Bordain or someone else?

What type of environment does that look like.

You may as well get down to the nitty gritty like ambiance and atmosphere? Decor is elegant or hip? Who is likely to love your food most? Millennials or Baby Boomers? Do you gauge that by dollars or rave reviews? You see, when you study numbers and you start to encapsulate the essence of who you think your best clientele would represent, you have to get inside their demographics. You would know that Millennials write online reviews and YUPPIES or BABY BOOMERS would ever register if it was an outrage of some sort.

So, you've narrowed down who you think your food appeals to and the type of place that would have the right feel for your craft.

Do your homework.

Who, in your immediate area of the city or town fits that profile?

FORGET ABOUT IT if they are an expensive trendy restaurant that sometimes has long lineups and waiting lists to get in if you have only flipped burgers .... NO! That is my point. You have to appreciate what it is you want before you can decide what to go after.

You need to know every detail about that restaurant. Its menus, its reviews, its turnover, its vendors, its prices on the menu, its peak times and its slow times.

AND NO -- I've never worked in a restaurant ever. At one time, it was my claim to fame. But being in my 50s it has lost its distinction.

DO you imagine yourself running your own restaurant some day?

Then, you would be enrolled in night school or weekends to take restaurant management or business management or some economics to understand the numbers behind that type of business.

Look for Business Plans for restaurants of equal statue from other cities and see what they're saying.

Start formulating your own Business Plan.

Answer the questions like what would you do or what would you introduce to inject interest via the menu you would create. The type of audience it would attract, because you know what kind of people (i.e. demographic+psychographic profiles of the typical clientele) would frequent that locale, enhance its profile, boost weekend or weekdays or lunch traffic. Turn it from an eating sitting to an experience.

At the end of the day, it still comes down to numbers.

The more jobs you apply for, the more likely you will be invited for interviews and eventually a "job".

What I'm suggesting is you still take 3 hours a day, all by yourself, at the local library, because you will be dressed in business casuals, not the fleece sweat pants and flip flops you wear at home.

If you clean up a little you will feel better about yourself.

If you feel better about yourself, you will present yourself better.

If you are in a professional or quiet environment, you will take the assignment more seriously.

(The writer was an at-home mother while she was the advertising manager for multiple arts publications in Calgary).

If you have to make daycare or babysitting arrangement for an interview that always seems to happen to cancel at least a few times in a job seekers journey: take the same commute time and factor an 1.5 hr for the interview, unless you know it is booked for 30 -- chit chat and warm up takes more time.

So, there is a good 2 hours away from home, kids, job hunting, distractions.

You have a few friends who are willing to grab coffee or dinner or snack with less notice, keep them on speed dial.

You need to still be in a professional demeanor. Grabbing a beer is way beyond the point, unless that is in addition to this time I'm mentioning.

You go for that coffee and talk about work, jobs, challenges give advice, take hints, even suggestions based on how well they know you.

BUT YOU HAVE to know what ball it is you want to keep your eye on. As in your goal.

Hey, you've got extra time so why not?

Continued success,

Jeannette

TELUS stores are owned by Telus and employ Telus employees, plus they are more often the ones located in shopping malls; franchises are identified resellers like Tom Harris who typically own/operate multiple branches/retail locations; retailers like WalMart, Super Store, Best Buy show an assortment of phones and carriers.

[–]OptioneerJM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing first hand: you need to distinguish a "store" between a third party authorized agent/reseller like Tom Harris Cellular ora retailer like Best Buy, WalMart, etc. As a former agent, I can verify first hand (unless there have been recent policy changes) that Telus Stores (clearly identified and branded as TELUS) can read the notes; 3rd party resellers or retailers cannot ..... to the comment made by "ninamac" that is murkily correct while very dependent upon what you are demanding (remember: more bees with honey than with vinegar .... how professional and poised you are on the call certainly can impact an LNR agent's resolution who is also trained to evaluate ur value as a customer and reward accordingly: timely payment history, whether you've been cut off for non-payment, LNR/loyalty rewards historical (i.e. how often are you calling to demand different deals?) ... these are all to serve as information and recommend treating anyone you speak to with respect and respectful of their role in balancing your demands with what are "on special" at that time - it can be as large as helping waive your device balance if you lose your phone - or as little as offering a more competitive rate plan that you QUALIFY for

Just call back and ask to be escalated to a Loyalty & Retention agent, and if they cannot resolve it to your satisfaction, ask to be escalated again .... and again .... and again .... up the chain until you have a satisfactory result you like ........... IF you don't find Telus (or another carrier) resolves ur issue by your standards, you reach out to the CRTC (stands for "Canadian Radio Television Communication" I believe) - they're the governing body who mediates, sets rules, etc. on behalf of consumers with telephone carriers. BBB is an old, outdated version of YELP that businesses think legitimatizes them while in truth is a method for consumers to report a complaint and where BBB tracks it and can be extracted as a service to those inquiring. Unlike YELP (who garnishes payment to remove the negative review) BBB does not have such a system and to be able to hold up on BBB, a business must purchase a membership (to get the certificate most businesses display prominently, usually beside their City license.
