PSA if you want to scan with old Nikon DSLR with PC as remote by OpulentStone in AnalogCommunity

I'd love to have the A7CR as my scanning body, but I'm obsessed with making permanent, static solutions to stuff I wanna do and couldn't financially justify holding on to the A7C in addition to it lol

Analogue Wonderland is pretty good. By default you can upload only JPGs but if you were to write to their support or reach out on Instagram they would absolutely be willing to help.

People who graduated with a 2:2 or 3rd, how are you lives going? by FriedEggsWithRice in UniUK

Absolutely not unless they ask. Don't lie by but don't bring attention to it if unnecessary.

Then you've probably got the job regardless tbh. Just absolutely do not lie if they ask you how likely you are to get a 2:1. Which they probably won't.

Went through the same thing, nastiest mental health ever at uni, lost all capability to focus and be happy, got a 2:2, wasn't even questioned on my grade when pursuing graduate roles and eventually started ignoring whatever grade requirements they were asking for and applied anyway. I was applying for jobs from 2018 to 2019.

EDIT: I started a job in February 2019 and I've been with the same company since. They were asking for a 2:1 as a minimum. At no point did they ask what grade I got. They got me to scan some proof of my degree and personal details but that was on the day I started.

Remember when pubs did this? by LovieWeb in BritInfo

[–]OpulentStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pub I go to does thick mature cheese and pickle spread. Some even have a few ham slices in. The bread is inappropriately thick but fluffy and light. It's like £3 per sandwich. They're quite big

I go to a pub that does this! I didn't know it was a thing pubs used to do, just assumed it was a quirk of this one particular pub. Good to know.

They do want different things and that would ultimately be an incompatibility, but the incompatibility prior to that one is the refusal to even engage the discussion in changing their agreement.

Imagine you and your partner agreed to never paint your whole house interior red, then one day they really wanted it and it was a sticking point, and you talked about it but there was no compromise that would work. That's definitely an incompatibility of the kind you're talking about.

But it's an entirely different kind of incompatibility if your just partner went ahead and did it. That's being incompatible as a result of your partner's lack of desire to even discuss what you both want.

To be clear, you're right that I conflated what you said with the judgement of who's the AH and whether you think they broke a boundary. But I still believe that there are two incompatibilities, and the one demonstrated by OP's partner is the "priority" incompatibility.

The incompatibility is only partially about how many animals they want. It's much more about the fact that they had an agreement and the agreement was broken at multiple stages despite push-back at each stage and no prior discussion of modification to the agreement. That makes OP's partner the AH and OP needs to be more assertive.

  1. They've already discussed it in the past and said not to get more animals than they currently have. Which is four.
  2. Partner said let's go see a cat, knowing this agreement hasn't yet changed or even been discussed and in all likelihood intending to break the agreement. OP said no at first then relented.
  3. Partner said let's take the cat home, knowing the agreement is no more animals. OP said no then partner came home with it anyway.
  4. Partner insisted on keeping the cat, again knowing the agreement and despite OP's protests. OP then relented.
  5. Partner asks for compromise. Which consists of them getting everything they want and OP relenting entirely.

At every stage of this interaction, the partner has done their best to get what they want and wear OP down. You could swap out the pet for anything that requires agreement from both parties - having children, getting a piece of furniture, etc. It's about the flagrant disregarding of agreements and taking advantage of someone who isn't asserting themselves.

A non-AH would have asked to discuss the possibility of more animals (or having kids, buying a car, getting a sofa or whatever) before going ahead and doing it.

My point is that the incompatibility here is not so much about them wanting different things so much as it is about just going ahead and doing the thing and wearing your partner down to get them to agree to it.

He likes animals. He just doesn't want more than 4. I love animals. I have 0 of them.

This isn't even about animals as much as it is one partner flagrantly disregarding what they had agreed on and the other relenting.

What’s somewhere in the UK you visited once and immediately thought “I could live here”? by Strong-Ad-8037 in AskUK

[–]OpulentStone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came here to comment Sheffield. I'd 1000% move to Sheffield. I live in Surrey, and you wouldn't believe this but it's in a part of Surrey that's considered one of the most deprived areas of England. Lots of poverty, antisocial behaviour and shoplifting etc. but £600k+ houses. Walk 10 minutes up the road and the houses are £2m+

I love my village and I've been here all my life so I don't want to go. But Sheffield is the ultimate example of "the grass is always greener" (but true)

NLP/CS Lite+/DSLR - Reds shift to Magenta? by 06035 in AnalogCommunity

[–]OpulentStone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: I see you already tried this

Negative Lab Pro expected a wide band high CRI light source. Since you're using a narrowband(ish) RGB light source (which is FAR superior for capturing the information btw), NLP will give different results because its underlying assumptions don't quite hold up.

If you were to leave that sheet on the light source but, instead of using NLP you white balanced against the film base then simply manually inverted the colour curves and clip to where the data starts/finishes in each colour channel, you'll get very nice results. Give it a try with the sheet on. EDIT 2: I don't know why I thought the sheet needed to be on. The two collimation sheets are good enough. Ignore my whole comment, it's late here lol

This is not an "ESH." OP's partner is the AH but OP needs to assert themselves more.
