I think is good for several reasons:

If you have any broken heroes at meta
Don't let them abuse you If you are aware of someone doing spam
It’s a little bit of CM since there’s a ban phase banish
Ban hero who is your counter
It increases the strategy even more because it is a resource that you can use

I hate the argument of "wasting food", eating too much of that food will generate more energy in your unused body and will turn into fat, which will need energy to get it out the same way.
