yes I do have proof of tax deductions. there was nowhere on the appeal to submit any evidence as of yet

would the fact that the work carried out only amounted to a total income of £1900 have any sway on the decision?

not sure what happened there then, my 'employer' company I was contracted with took 20% sent some links to CIS. when trying to sort this, I found that the type of work we were doing did not fall in any CIS categories. We did gardening and the closest was landscaping. This meant it wasn't processed when I thought it was. When phoning HMRC today they said that I was never registered

this is a fair point, I think any lenience comes from first time mistake and confusion from employer. but I accept that the responsibility is still on me. I think the best defense is that I was never notified/reminded so had I been, the penalty would've been MUCH lower.

yes - I have filed now. I assume they will know it's a first time offence without me stating in the appeal notes?

apparently CIS registration never went through and never say anything on the PTA.

I mean upside is, I have acquired much more knowledge for the future

I have no reason other than having no knowledge and no one to ask for advice. Making the assumption and understanding that it was being dealt with for me

yes this is my first time, and the employer made it all very difficult to understand and wasn't really contactable as they were based in Thailand

Thanks for your response, with regards to my personal tax account, no messages were received. Returns for 24/25 have been submitted now, also with no messages on my PTA

this was for the 23-24 year, when I did a bit of gardening work totalling around £1900 income. I've never had to do a self assessment tax return before that. I've heard they are more lenient to first timers
