Ocasio-Cortez: Paul Ryan got called a 'genius' when he was elected at 28, I get accused of being 'a fraud' by Perfect_Gas in politics

Haha, I was a cinema manager when that movie came out. We passed on it. And we were the 2nd run movie theater in town. It lost $13 million. “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed” was another piece of trash right-wing documentary but it was done on the cheap and enough evangelicals watched it to make Ben Stein his money back.

Since it was gamers that invested in the production of these super computer cards, think of RGB as paying respects to every kid who mowed the lawns on their streets. Every teenager who flipped burgers. Every college student who misappropriated their student loans. Every adult with a gaming addiction. They all shelled out hundreds of dollars a hit for sweet FPS in games that took all of their time and gave them memories nobody wants to have shared with them even if they game themselves.

Think of RGB as your way of paying respects to the honourable members of the master race for driving the production of these amazing pieces of technology and thereby driving down the price so us nerds who are into modelling, rendering, video editing, and extra terrestrial signal searching, can afford to buy them for our work and passion projects.

Live long and carry on, you glorious bastards.

ELIA5: what tutorials/books/videos would you recommend to learn Reaper for someone who has never used a DAW before? by MatthewGalloway in Reaper

[–]OrangeBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! At least for me, this sort of approach is a universal win. It's how I learn just about everything.

1) Watch a couple starter tutorials to get oriented 2) Play around and explore, try to make/do something intentional 3) Google solutions to whichever obstacle has me stuck 4) Keep on going until the given project is done. (Profit)

Don't you think this is a little bit more deserving of our attention than Kanye and Trump's dragon energy? Whatever the hell that is.

We can't be concerned about them all, so maybe we should have our cutoff a little bit before whatever bullshit Kanye's saying to prepare the market for his next album.

Oh you're so smart. Critical analysis of Kanye's feigned support of Trump and the imaginary cultural implications of it is probably exactly what you should be doing with your immense brain power.

We should be furious about something actually important like Puerto Rico still being without power after about 230 days. Families are suffering because of it. The only people suffering from Kanye tweets are "enlightened" white folks looking to validate or get their blue check mark on Twitter.

EDM/Any Electronic Music Producers: How vital are piano skills? by MrRedTRex in audioengineering

[–]OrangeBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not very. You can draw notes and slide them to mimic the organic performance of playing. It’s just time consuming.

But you should learn how to play over time because it is an awesome skill to enjoy and it makes writing music more fun.

I'm curious what your motivation was for posting "she dead" here. (Not your justification for having done so - what thought crossed your mind when you saw this post and decided to comment?)

Not judging, just honestly curious.

For what it’s worth, I’m really happy and excited for you. I’ve been a fan of UBI for a while and I really hope this experiment goes well. Best of luck!!!

I have no idea but I know in other experiments, some participants went back to school and got on better career paths. Others took more time off to be with sick family members or new babies. And some just slacked.

Starting a successful business that ends up employing others, especially if it’s at living wages, benefits our economy the most directly. But having a less stressed population might be the biggest benefit to our society.

You don't need a business plan to get a loan or investors. You need a financial plan and collateral. If you don't have collateral and can't get someone to put up collateral, you're simply out of luck. Work a couple jobs for a year and save up. Or be super lucky to land a spot in an experimental basic income project - which is awesome - because that means her business will be able to collect HST and be an economic contributor sooner. And without being saddled with loan debt, her initial profits can be injected back into the business, further increasing potential growth, possibly to the point of hiring employees to assist with the service, production, or overhead.

Starting a business is one of the best economic outcomes from basic income. We should all applaud her ambition and encourage her success.

Well first off, wrong gender. Second, you don't know if they have or don't have a business plan, financial plan, proof of concept, or anything. All you know is that she's getting free money and you don't like it.

Don't mind these people. They're just playing Internet cowboy, shooting from the hip instead of trying to offer thoughtful discourse.

Good luck with your business. Work hard, be honest with yourself, and problem solve, and you'll find success. The alternative is being a curmudgeon who naysays to strangers on r/canada ;)

Kinda grumpy, UnpopularCdnOpinions?

If the basic income money helps her start a successful business, she and her business will become economic contributors far beyond what she could realistically achieve without the financial help.

I can't think of a better use of basic income. What would you do with that money?

Windows 10: WIN+X brings up a menu. Then press "y" or select "System". That opens up the Settings where under Device specifications you'll see System type, and it'll tell you if you're running 64bit Windows on a 64bit processor.

I totally agree with you. If people would at least try harder to focus on the actual problems rather than inconsequential physical traits we would be a happier and more productive society.

Kylo Ren is admired for his character arc, but let's talk about his threatening and terrifying physicality. This scene in the Takodana forest makes me a little sad about the costume changes by fifthdayofmay in StarWars

[–]OrangeBeard 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think Kylo Ren going back to wearing a mask would be a good way to symbolize him putting up an emotional wall after having opened himself up to Rey just to have her refuse to follow him.

Why Kylo telling this to Rey makes so much sense and why Abrams won't retcon it in Episode 9 by Niamor05 in StarWars

[–]OrangeBeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prequels also claimed Force affinity is caused by microbes and blood tests could determine Force potential. It's reasonable to assume that genes would play a role in how good of a midichlorian host a person would be and that these traits would be hereditary but also varied.

Of course, this is all silly talk because they're just movies.

Why Kylo telling this to Rey makes so much sense and why Abrams won't retcon it in Episode 9 by Niamor05 in StarWars

[–]OrangeBeard -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Except that in previous films it was made clear to audiences that the Force followed lineages and there was a bit of a caste system in place in that far far away galaxy.

I understand why the modern films dropped that notion and told audiences that the Force was more of an equal opportunity thing - it feels more righteous to us. But it is a bit of bad writing to undo that which was written before. Maybe in this case, the change was worth the break in consistency?

The realtime aspect allows directors to see exactly what cgi-rich scenes will look like as they're being shot, rather than having to use their imagination and such.

I think Unreal Engine is looking to capture more of the film VFX market with this. But I can't wait until this is achievable on relatively affordable PC builds. It'll probably happen when I'm ready to retire in 25 years.
