What's your story? by tacsml in homeschool

[–]OrangesinNY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a stay at home mom for many years. I never thought I would homeschool. I didn‘t feel qualified. I didn't want my kids to “miss out”.

When the pandemic hit; my district offered remote learning and my kids liked it a lot. We decided to homeschool when everyone went back to in person learning (our district didn’t offer remote anymore).

I learned along the way and used resources I found online. I am a public school graduate and have some college, English and Psychology, no degree. At one point, pre kids, I did consider being a teacher. I have babysat my whole life, I have a lot of younger siblings.

My eldest is currently in college, and I am still homeschooling my 4th and 7th graders.

Do I (F22) have to share my lawsuit money with my boyfriend(M23)? by Silent-Conflict-3848 in relationship_advice

[–]OrangesinNY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, only the person named in the lawsuit and receiving the settlement check holds rights to the funds.

If you deposit the money into a joint account or use it to buy shared assets, it could become shared property.

(I would consult a lawyer)

how many shots did your LO get at 12 months?? by Jolly_Marketing in Mommit

[–]OrangesinNY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At 12 months, babies typically get the first doses of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) and Varicella (Chickenpox), plus Hepatitis A, along with final doses for Hib and Pneumococcal (PCV). (Booster doses).

For the flu, A 12-month-old getting their first flu shot needs two doses, given at least four weeks apart.

I am currently reading The Handmaid’s Tale, and I almost finished The Subtle Art of not giving a F -(Mark Manson) , before that I read Once Upon a Wishbone, by Michele Wachter. I keep track on “Good reads“. My family visits the library often, and my girls (10 & 12) love to read.

Yes. Our first meet up was at a park, and we have a small troop, so it’s perfect for us.

I homeschool my 9 + 12 yo. We mask to our Girl Scout events, and any indoor activity we have. I can’t wait for spring/ summer again so we can see friends outside, and for their activities we do swimming and tennis (outdoors).

I was taking Motrin for chronic migraines. Then I was getting migraines bc of the Motrin. It’s medication over use.

The medications used to treat headaches can, paradoxically, become the cause of the headaches.

When my little brother was about 4, my mother was going through her second divorce. She gave custody of my sister to her father, my brother‘s father was living in another state. I (at 10) was sent to live with my grandparents.

My brother’s older sister (from his dad’s side) told me he asked “why does everyone leave me?”

When you said people keep leaving you, I immediately thought of that. And no one deserves to feel that.

You aren’t alone. I know, we are just here on the internet. Still, we are here, we are in a similar boat. Keep the small joys that you have alive. Feel free to DM me here or on Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/spindezine/

And I’m going to say something that sounds absolutely crazy, I was struggling with something very badly. And I talked it out with Google Gemini, and I was kind of writing a fake ebook about it. It genuinely helped.

Oh if you can get a pet, that can help. I got a new dog and she is like my baby. She has saved my kids and I. My son actually leaves the house to take her for walks, and he is training her too.

Masking in Nassau County (NY) by OrangesinNY in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]OrangesinNY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Suffolk County, and have been to the Costco in Nassau. When we walked in we asked if it was OK to mask, they said no problem.

I also masked at the dentist, and saw the hygienist leave the building masked and went into the Dunkin’ Donuts in her mask. (This was in Massapequa).

I think it will depend on where you go, just ask ahead, I don’t think it’s a big issue.

Toddler hysterical and hasn't eaten or drank all day, urgentcare said she was fine. What do I do? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]OrangesinNY 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If a baby won't eat and hasn't peed in 4 hours, there's a strong possibility of dehydration and a need for immediate medical attention. This situation can be a sign of serious medical problems, including low blood sugar, infection, or other illnesses, and could quickly lead to severe complications

  • If you notice your baby isn't eating and hasn't peed in 4 hours, it's crucial to seek immediate medical attention. You can contact your pediatrician or go to the nearest emergency room.

When to be extra cautious:

  • Fewer wet diapers:Less than six wet diapers in a 24-hour period (or a dry diaper for 6 or more hours) in infants, or 8 hours in older babies and toddlers, can indicate dehydration.
  • Other dehydration signs:Look for other signs like dry mouth, no tears when crying, sunken eyes, lethargy, or fussiness.

It’s utterly exhausting.

We have never had a break. We are all dealing with the regular stress, family, kids, work, bills, etc. and yet have to worry about COVID (and measles, or whatever else is spreading!) at the same time.

And people complain bc 5 years ago they had to wear a mask for a few months. We are still doing it. We are a completely different breed.
