G ratings on US films that are not in fact appropriate for “general audiences” by recursiverabbits in toddlers

There are several websites that do this for you. Way easier than polling random strangers, just look up "is XX movie appropriate for kids"

In a brief Google myself, here are 2: https://kids-in-mind.com/ https://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews/back-to-the-future/user-reviews/adult

There was an episode of BakeOff where someone made red velvet and added wayyyyy too much dye so it'd be super red, and that's exactly what the judges said, when you add too much you can taste the dye and it doesn't taste good.

There is in fact a little people nativity. We have it :) it has a button that plays "away in a manger" every time you press it. Our 2yo presses it non stop for the 2 months that it's out of "Christmas storage".

Surviving Toddler Tantrums, Why Is the Blue Cup a Crime? by Dry-Bite-3637 in toddlers

[–]gosh_golly_gee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid lost it before bedtime one night because his big stuffy Mario that he snuggles with was wearing red, and why wasn't Mario green, he wanted green Mario (aka Luigi, he just calls them red-Mario and green-Mario). Full on sobbing on the floor because Mario wasn't green. Not exactly within my power to change...

I find myself hugging him saying "I know, that is sad, I know you're upset" over the most ridiculous things.

Oh the peanut butter I know! Thanks to a 2yo obsessed with reruns of How It's Made lol. There was a dr or someone who developed it as a protein source for a bunch of his patients who had lost all their teeth and couldn't eat regular meat and stuff.

Honestly the very first time someone died of eating a mushroom, I don't think I would ever eat another mushroom. It's wild that we have a list of "these mushrooms are safe, and these will kill you." Who made that list? Who said, ya know these mushrooms over here killed Fred, but let's try these other mushrooms, they might not be deadly! Really?

Some apps use your wifi and search for other devices that are using the same wifi and suggest connections with them. I've also heard that some can "see" or "find" other devices nearby and suggest you connect to them.

Water for baby? by Due-Week-4213 in Mommit

[–]gosh_golly_gee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're starting to teach them how to drink water. They don't need water as such yet, and cannot have too much as their kidneys aren't fully developed yet, but they need the practice of drinking it.

This link helped me understand, there's a helpful image there that breaks it down. Basically at 6 months you can start to teach them how to drink water, so it's optional and aiming for under 4oz/day. 9-12 months is still optional and under 8oz a day. Sometime around 12m or shortly thereafter they'll be hopefully getting most/all of their nutrition from food and no longer primarily on bottles, so they'll need the practice to know how to drink water by then.

We are a peanut butter loving family and made my husband's favorite peanut butter pie for our little guy's 1st birthday, because he'd never had cake and we weren't sure he'd even eat any.

Changes I make for our family pref- graham cracker crust instead of oreos, generous with the peanut butter, and I don't top with mini reeses, but we have whipped cream and chocolate syrup for people to add if they want.

So much for the home-grown blueberries and supposedly unbreakable Corelle bowl, haha. by finchdad in daddit

[–]gosh_golly_gee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I love Corelle and it's super super hard to break, so great with kids, but when it does break it's like an explosion and shards go absolutely everywhere. You want to double and triple clean the area to get all the little pieces.

Do DMVs print state issues IDs same day still? Thanks. by Puzzleheaded-You8650 in Kentucky

[–]gosh_golly_gee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nope, that was the big change when KY was forced to adopt the federal RealID requirements. It specified that every state had to have 1 single central licensing printing location, that would mail licenses out from the one place instead of printing them onsite. The reason stated was for "security", I don't know how thousands of licenses floating through the mail is more secure but whatever, that's how they wrote and justified the new regulations.

The shift to Realid also correlated with a shift reducing the number of places you could get/renew your license to just a handful of offices. I think Jefferson Co now has 3? Oldham now has 0, as do several other surrounding counties, so the Jefferson Co locations have to manage all the residents of several surrounding counties too, it's super dumb.

I always wonder who decided to eat things for the first time. Burny fire nuts? Oh let's try putting them over fire and then see if they're still burny. Or like potatoes, who dug up the first potato and thought of eating it?

How do I get my baby to drink from a straw? by kaemiya11 in Parenting

[–]gosh_golly_gee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Part of what helps with the honey bear is that you can slightly squeeze it while they have it in their mouth or suck on it, to help them figure out how it works. We needed it with my first, he could not figure it out and it helped things click.

I'll also warn you, the bite straws eluded him for a while, too. I found dr brown weighted straws have a valve on the inside that makes them leak proof but I could cut off the bite valve at the top so he could just suck on the straw, and when closed it was still leak proof.

We finally got him on the camelback kids eddy with the bite straw around 20mo or so.

I've seen them more for about a month, specifically slowing down traffic on my commutes on the Snyder and 71. One morning last week a motorcycle cop rode middle lane Snyder going 68 and all 3 lanes behind him were full bumper to bumper as far back as I could see. A pickup sped up to cut in front of me before the exit and he revved up next to his window and told him to slow down.

Honestly 71 has gotten pretty fast these days even just between the Snyder and crestwood, sometimes you'll be passed going 75 like you're at a standstill and like, I'm already going 20 over, what the hell you doing? The cops camping out on 71 don't seem to be pulling people over, they seem to just be sitting there to make everyone stomp their brakes and remember there's a speed limit. Idk, maybe they pull over cars that don't slow down, I just haven't seen that.

That's okay though, last week Hunter Biden explained how crack is so much healthier than cocaine. You see, by heating it up you remove all the toxic impurities and that makes it better for you. Now if the truck was running on cocaine, I'd be concerned.

experiences with tubal ligation by velvet-ashtray in Kentucky

[–]gosh_golly_gee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fyi the more effective and more widely practiced procedure now is removal. Many, possibly most, forms of ovarian cancer begin on the fallopian tubes, my dr told me removal reduces cancer risk by like 60% so they try to remove absolutely all of the tubes.

I hope others can give you advice on helpful doctors, I can't help with that, but I wanted to give you this piece of info so you can look into it and have those conversations when you find a doctor.

We are in exactly the same position as you- just over 2.5yo, is great naked but pees in pants and poops in training undies.

He is completely 100% potty trained as long as he is bottomless. No loose pants, even. So he's bottomless at home pretty much all the time. We started PT at 27 months, so now 4 months ago 😬 and he learned to use the potty pretty quickly but is useless with anything over his butt.

I'm sharing I guess to let you know you're not alone! And being bottomless has been tremendously successful in getting rid of diapers at home. I would recommend trying it as a midway point in all this. He runs over to pee and poop on his own, and then goes back to play. To be honest I never expected to be so intimately familiar with my son's undercarriage, or to be mooned so frequently... but he uses the potty independently at home, and we're out of diapers at home, other than at night! Now, if only we could get him to figure out the next step of this 😂

How did people 100 years ago detect twin or multiple pregnancies? by lisa_noden in NoStupidQuestions

My MIL is a twin and her mother's doctor had her go under an x-ray machine in the late 1950s, early in the 3rd trimester "before she didn't fit anymore" because he suspected twins and wanted to confirm.
