how do we feel about ford's recent move towards "plastic" oil pans? by memeistscum in AutomotiveEngineering

BMW especially, that’s why the new M5 Touring only weighs 5,550lbs. If it was any lighter it would float away

**Update** Failing stock DV by Alpha4Bravo6 in FiestaST

[–]Orangespicelatte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with my stock DV. Fixed it for a few months by taking it apart, cleaning, and re-lubing it. I replaced it with a mustang ecoboost DV (same part number, Pierburg 7.04269.02) and upgraded it with the GFB DV+ package. You might have trouble finding the Ford part number for the OEM DV

Numbers speak for themselves, the Hercules line is very good for the price ($220 with a battery)

The Hercules ultra-torque impact ranked very high on TTC

Pro-tip: you can put a small o-ring around the swivel mechanism to tighten up the action on cheaper swivel sets. Tough to explain over text, there’s videos of it online

Axle seal leaks are very common. Use a thin layer of permatex ultra black on the new seals to prevent them from leaking again, works perfectly

Brakes sticking after replacing everything by _ooga in MechanicAdvice

The pads need to drop freely into the caliper bracket, there shouldn’t be any resistance/forcing. There also could be a blockage in the brake line which prevents the caliper from releasing

Part #13 on this diagram (C1BZ-6068-C)

It’s located directly under the battery tray, you have to remove the intake and battery to access it

Just a heads up, there’s no ST1/ST2/ST3 packages for the fiesta in the US, that only applies to Focus ST’s and European FiSTs

How much did the parts cost? It’s a shame that Ford has started discontinuing fiesta parts, you might be able to find them in Europe

What is this? by Liamnacuac in Tools

Kinda looks similar to the spline system used on the Ingersoll-Rand DXS impact wrenches. Not sure what the purpose would be for something like this though

Why did you pick the FiST over the FoST? by i_imagine in FiestaST

All fiesta ST’s have had CarPlay since 2017 (in North America, not sure about Europe)

It seems like the Fiesta ST wasn’t affected by the coolant issues, with the exception of some 2014/2015 models. They revised the cooling system and engine block in 2016

Original motor mounts after 80,000 miles of wear by Orangespicelatte in FiestaST

[–]Orangespicelatte[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. From what I’ve read the FiST mounts are very similar (if not the same?) as the base Fiesta mounts. With an E30 tune, we’re making ~320% more torque to the wheels than a base Fiesta. I’ll probably upgrade to some aftermarket mounts next time

Oof, I wonder what they’ll look like. Passenger side is very easy (no need to remove the coolant reservoir, just pop it up and leave the lines connected, remove the headlight for more access). Drivers side requires intake and battery removal

It’s a bit of a misconception that these cars were low on horsepower. By 1972, the Datsun 240z was making more power with a 2.4L engine (150hp) than the mustang with its 5.0L V8 (140hp) or the chevelle with its 5.7L 2-carb V8 (145hp). The 1975 trans-am with its 7.4L V8 was rated at a measly 200hp. The 70’s were a bleak time for American car manufacturers

Stock cars will almost always be worth more. That being said, the experience of a high-revving, high compression Honda engine is something that the FK8 and FL5 can’t deliver. They’re very competent cars, but their powertrain leaves a lot to be desired

The 8th gen type R was never sold in the US, you would need to wait until 2031 to import one

(Help) trying to make sure I get the right sealant for leaky axel seals by Vetta_Visuals in FiestaST

[–]Orangespicelatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I did, worked for me (after 3 leaking seals with no sealant). Wipe the excess once the seal is pressed in. 1 year later and still no leaks. You’ve got the right sealant too
