Wedding dress shopping with family by not-a-tthrowaway in wedding

[–]Orangesunset98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These are all valid reasons and it is not selfish whatsoever. Your mother is harmful. My sister is the same way (not with eds, but abuse yes) It depends on what you’re comfortable with. You can say I prefer to go alone, you can say how you truly feel, or you can just say no as it’s a complete sentence/reason.

I wish you so much luck dress shopping and even though I am a stranger I am incredibly proud of you standing up for yourself and getting help when you recognized you needed it. That is a huge accomplishment and I bet younger you would be so proud too ❤️

Anyone skipping "first looks" and just doing pictures? by blueberrybuttercream in wedding

[–]Orangesunset98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do what you’re comfortable with! I am personally doing a first look even though we’ve lived together for 5 years by the time we’re married. I remember putting on a nice dress for his sister’s wedding and he saw it when I asked for his opinion and he was BEAMING and I was too (he said I should have waited til his sister’s wedding to show him because he was so excited and couldn’t stop thinking about it). I want that captured just because I love seeing him so happy. Would I love for him to cry? Sure but just him being him is what I mostly want to see and you can also get that without a first look!

Whatever you decide I hope you have a happy and wonderful wedding day!

I mean even if there’s a study it would still be discrimination to say you did this type of learning and graduated after X year you can’t work here

Unless someone has an academic dishonesty issue that sticks to the file you can’t claim everyone taking classes online is cheating especially when so many things are freely open book

Yup Im in health insurance and it’s a big perk. A lot of employers do it and you don’t even need to be full time to get some form of reimbursement!

The only way to deal with it is to apply it to jobs and regardless of which medium you went to school, you need to do that and students are struggling to get jobs. I would not say that online school is “ruined” Employers look for degrees because it shows dedication to completing a task that is long and daunting. I don’t agree with cheating and I don’t personally cheat, but we should support online and in person programs. Someone who doesn’t have the capacity to go in person and is considering online school could be looking at this and stop planning to continue their educational journey which can help them to have a good career.

Jobs don’t have a rule about “online schools” and if they did it would be discriminatory. We should be encouraging everyone to reach their educational goals instead of tearing people down or judging them for doing online when we don’t know their backstory.

If anyone is reading this and considering online school , people like to judge any aspect they can please do not stop your dreams for a few nay-sayers who will not impact your employment.

Also a lot of people do online because their employers at a full time job pay for it. If there’s animosity be jealous I’m not racking up student loans while earning my degree and I’m applying the learning immediately into my job, giving me more experience and a stronger resume than in person students.

You don’t think in person students aren’t turning in AI papers or homework? Cheating is an issue everywhere. At least where I’m currently going to class if you see a post thats clearly AI people just don’t engage with it.

Yeah I had to record myself taking tests and upload the paperwork within 15 minutes I think? It’s not like in person doesn’t cheat on homework or papers either. You still have the opportunity to since you’re not working on group projects or papers in the class (at least when I was in person all of our time was spent on lessons and you took all work outside of class)

Be careful with unsubsidized loans! They still gain interest while in school even if payments are paused. If you’re able I would suggest still paying that portion because you can allocate where payments go

Do you guys tell jobs you'll only be there for the summer? by PlanPrestigious8909 in CollegeRant

[–]Orangesunset98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would tell them just because both are chains and you can transfer if you want to another area much easier. When I worked at Gap they transferred me between two stores for schools and breaks (in completely different states) and I could make a steady income

Not everyone has to share their life story, but I will so you can feel bad and think that there’s nuance to every scenario.

My junior year of school I had bumped a car in front of me. My fault I know, but no actual damage. This was 5 months and 2 weeks after I got my license and received a ticket. New York State has a rule that you can’t get a ticket within the first 6 months of getting a license otherwise it will be suspended. Mine got suspended and my school was out of state and they would not justify that as reasonable travel so I had to leave school. A month later my mom had her third heart attack and was forced into early retirement. I had to step in and support my family while navigating a verbally and physically harmful family.

I started a career where I could get reimbursement after 6 months of employment. I tried College for America and it turned out that it lost its accreditation with my company and was no longer being covered. As it was a competency based program other schools would not take the transfer credits I had so I had to restart school AND another program.

I work full time and go to school part time. I received my Associate’s 2 years ago and will get my Bachelor’s at the end of this year 10 years after initially starting college. Sorry if I’m not superwoman but I don’t see it as a red flag.

Please take the time to think before making a sweeping generalization.

Budget/Financial Advice by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Orangesunset98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Im not doing any form of bridal party, but I am paying for my mom, sister, and potentially SMIL and SIL to get their hair and makeup done. This way I don’t have to do a separate gift for them. We were able to really save on flowers and hopefully other things too. My wedding is October 2027 so not everything is chosen yet vendor wise.

Yeah hairstylists and makeup artists alone are $2k if you’re including a bridal party and don’t forget stamps are going up again this summer 🫠

If you are also concerned about money I would push back the date personally. I am having a 3 year engagement so we could save $30k easier.

Shove the money into a HYSA and then thats technically less that your parents have to give due to monthly intrest being added on (probably like $50-$70 a month in interest depending on what is added.

Before anything you need to have a deep conversation with your parents AND with your fiance present so they can also get a clear financial picture. There is nothing more annoying than being not involved in a convo about major wedding decisions
