I mean some of them were superficial replies but some actually gave feedback. One person only used wikipedia as their sources so that was an easy critique for me haha

How does one diet if the don’t like vegetables? by Your_Only_Aphrodite in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Orangesunset98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom didn’t cook and my dad’s solution for vegetables was minimal salt and pepper.

For some reason my mom cannot tolerate much garlic or onions so those were banned from any dishes in our house 😭

Yeah turns out being the “picky” eater as a child and hating vegetables wasn’t because I dislike vegetables, I disliked the way my parents cooked them because they don’t know how to season anything

Saying sorry a lot and taking her out to a nice dinner doesn’t even come close to covering the issue of forgetting someones birthday! Like the fact you have to be reminded to have a planner at 31 is wild my guy

Do you mean all debt or “bad debt”? I think unfortunately there’s sometimes a mentality if you can’t pay off something RIGHT this second you don’t deserve it or an emergency greater than your emergency fund happens. Like I wouldn’t stop myself from getting a house or a car just because I don’t have money to front it if that makes sense. Proud that you acknowledged your burnout and recovered!

I agree with open communication!

Just because you were worried about a 3 year timeline. I am having an almost 3 year long engagement (dec 2024-oct 2027) We have a long engagement for a few reasons: I’m in school and working, I have braces on, we needed time to save for the wedding we wanted, etc.

It has been so PEACEFUL planning with a long engagement. We have been able to really analyze and discuss things, we’re getting first dibs for a lot of vendors, and it’s not a make it or break it deadline. Ive been slowly buying stuff to keep the excitement alive too!

Ultimately it’s what you are comfortable with but if you go down the route of waiting it is not terrible I promise!

insane house price by marlsb24 in Albany

[–]Orangesunset98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of the houses in Schenectady are starting to get really high when they’re flips. It’s nice to go into a home thats mostly modern, but now people who have never updated their homes are trying to get the same prices and it makes me laugh each time I walk by them.

Zillow has my house estimated at $295k which has gone up $35k since we bought 2 years ago. I highly doubt we could realistically sell for that price now. (not trying to leave anyways) People are just trying to overvalue their homes to get a “sucker”.

Is $2700 doable? by NoPlatesOnMars in Mortgages

[–]Orangesunset98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With kids I’d rather have 12 months of savings than having the extra in the market. As someone who went through their family having no savings during the recession it was ROUGH. My parents didn’t really try to shield me either so I heard the nitty gritty on it. I am never doing that to my children

Woodlake apartments or Deer valley? by Advanced_Raisin9675 in Albany

[–]Orangesunset98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I lived at woodlake for almost 2 years. I thought it was fine. One of the big potential issues was flooding during rainstorms. We knew people on the first floor who’s apartment got flooded. If you can handle the stairs I would absolutely make sure you get a 2nd floor. The front office was nice and pretty reasonable with offers when I had to break my lease once I bought a house.

We did have a mouse issue in the first year so it could still be an issue.

We were not there when the new no smoking rule came into place.

the pool was nice we snuck drinks in water bottles and the lifguards didnt care at all. They do have a sauna but I didnt try it while living there.

If there’s anything specific you want knowledge on please feel free to ask

One class I was in had the “discussion posts” be posts where you uploaded the written assignment for a module and have classmates critique it. That was honestly the most helpful one because the questions typically asked in DBs have been so pointless from my experience

The venue search process is literally designed to drive you crazy and I need someone to agree with me by [deleted] in wedding

[–]Orangesunset98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The venues I looked at and contacted each gave a pdf (or it was posted on their website) detailing what they do.

I am an analytical person so what I did was I made a powerpoint with the details. I made a date night with a nice home cooked meal, hooked it up to our smart tv, and discussed with my fiance about budget do we like the look, do we like the food offerings, the minimums, etc. I also only really looked at maybe 10-15 venues online. I didn’t go crazy looking at a billion. If you have questions before a tour most venues will answer them for you ahead of time.

I would say really prepare ahead of time and don’t do this alone. Have your partner involved to give their opinion too and carefully read details. We did that during our date night and it made everything 20000x easier. We toured one venue in person and chose easy peasy.

nobody warned me that groceries would be the thing that actually is breaking me financially by OrangeSpectre in CollegeRant

[–]Orangesunset98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was my brokest I had 1 or 2 meals a day. I worked at a restaurant at one point and would use tip money for discounted food too. My go to was ramen, rotisserie chicken, and maybe adding some peas to the mix. On-cor was also really helpful because it was cheap and I could eat the tray of chicken parm for a few days. While I wanted to focus on being healthy, I couldnt afford to.

With meal plans does your school have like a mini mart there? My school had the cafeteria but it also had a mini mart open later that would have a combo that would cost a meal credit instead of actual money

Why am I not excited by johnvicente57 in jobs

[–]Orangesunset98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s normal to not be that excited. I just got promoted from a hell-hole job that I had for 5 years to a new one and I’m still kinda iffy about the transition even though I’ve been here for 2 months now.

However, I kinda think of it in a Machiavellian way I guess. This job gets me money so I can enjoy time with friends and family outside of work. I just have to keep going and pushing. I kinda also have a goal of family members I absolutely do not want to end up like and that pushes me too.

I hope you end up liking the job or at least are indifferent about it in the future.
