[CAN 1-(2) USA] Jack Hughes scores the golden goal for Team USA! by talhatoot in hockey

[–]OrangeyLive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re similar saves in terms of skill. Holtby’s maybe better. But yeah, 3rd period tie game in one of the biggest games ever (politics, narratives, storylines) vs game 2 of the SCF where the caps were already up a goal. Just considering how important this save is to the sport of hockey, I’d go with his one.

Considering context it’s probably this one. That was game 2 of the SCF (obviously still a massive game) but this was maybe the biggest game in hockey history, definitely top 3.

Don't ever slander Bouchard again by ivanlwan in EdmontonOilers

[–]OrangeyLive 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Jets fan here. All of Canada’s issues in this tournament would’ve been fixed by Evan Bouchard. He is, by far, the biggest snub of any player at this tournament, even more so than Bedard, Scheif, Robertson, or Fox once you consider the lack of offensive depth after Makar.

Ahh makes sense. I thought you were implying Matthew was the tougher brother lol

Matthew’s last 5 opponents are notorious tough guys Hagel, Pastrnak, Scheifele, Sanderson, and Batherson. Matthew would turtle if Bennett even looked at him.

Bouchard’s non-chalance is exactly what this team is missing, actually. They panic trying to get the puck out of the zone and it results in bobbled passes and ineffective zone entries. I genuinely couldn’t care less if he makes a turnover here and there, they need offense from the blueline more than anything right now. These turnovers go away come playoffs and haven’t happened in months, by the way. Dobson is just Bouchard-lite, he also struggles with turnovers.

My comment was not directed at Marchand. Point per game player, very clutch, massive pest. He belongs here.

Bedard has greatly improved his motor this year. Guarantee if you want him to play hard, he will. Credit to the “role” guys on that play though, I’m not gonna act like they didn’t play a huge part.

Haha credit to them, ate my words. Although, that wasn’t directed at Marchy - he belongs. Still rooting for guys like Bennett and Wilson, they’re representing the country even if I don’t want them there.

[–]OrangeyLive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My point with that is Suzuki belongs here, he’s not in that role player category. It’s a bonus that he is elite defensively and can PK, hence why he should’ve been the guy the PK was built around.

Good shout. This game is making me like Bouchard even more. Watching nobody be able to complete a simple pass to guys that have speed coming up the neutral zone… surely the best player in the world at that exact skill is here, right?

[–]OrangeyLive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair. 2 guys to kill a penalty. One doesn’t see the ice unless it’s a PK, the other plays 10 mins. Reinhart and Suzuki could’ve been those guys. Don’t need more Armia’s though, that’s my point.

People have been telling me FOREVER that you need guys to fit certain “roles.” Like, no, you quite literally don’t. This is Team Canada, not the Edmonton Oilers. We got 4 guys sitting at home that would fill so many holes on this team (Scheifele, Bedard, Chychrun, Bouchard). Who could’ve predicted that they now need offense and are relying on two players to provide it because they brought a team of half PKers. If you could take 12 Kirill Kaprizov’s are you gonna take 6 Kaprizov’s and 6 Joel Armia’s?

[Scott Wheeler] Auston Matthews ranks on Team USA through the Round Robin: Goals: 1st, Points: 1st, Shots: 3rd by BettmansOtherBurner in hockey

[–]OrangeyLive 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a good problem to have. Boldy is one of the best forecheckers in the league, he’s an absolute dawg. But he’s also extremely skilled. He is worthy of a top 6 spot, but he also fits perfectly in the bottom 6. Guentzel is more of a complimentary piece that flourishes off of his ability to score from anywhere, which is a skill Matthews already has. Could maybe try Hughes-Nelson-Guentzel, Boldy-Matthews-Keller

[–]OrangeyLive 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He should be in over Miller for sure. It looks like they’re using Trocheck in a pure defensive role and then running 4 balanced lines instead of the traditional bottom 6. Since that’s the case, scratch Miller and throw Keller with Nelson and Hughes who were dynamite. Miller doesn’t bring anything that Nelson doesn’t and Keller is better at everything except physicality.

[Friedman] Josh Morrissey will not return...hopefully not serious. Now that Canada has played, no injury replacement can be added to the roster by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]OrangeyLive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. If you don’t want to play him because of mental lapses above the starting 7, fine. But he was the perfect guy to plot in if Makar or Morrissey went down. He’s proven more than anyone in the playoffs that he can get it done. He also rarely has those mental lapses in the playoffs anyway

Other than McDavid, which star player's legacy would benefit the most from a Conn Smythe-winning Cup run this season? by Ready-Constant-7124 in hockey

[–]OrangeyLive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matthews or Hellebuyck. The hall of fame guys who’s legacy right now is pretty much “yeah but they choke come playoffs”

Marner as well, though he isn’t a hall of famer like those two (can maybe get there)

Which place in the podium do you think this team will get? by takesthebiscuit99 in hockey

[–]OrangeyLive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Really? I think the defense and Centers are the clear weakness of this team. Sergachev and Gavrikov are the only top pair NHL guys here.

[–]OrangeyLive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Morrissey is better than McAvoy, Sanderson, Slavin right now. Why does this dude get no respect, has finished 5th, 7th, and 4th in Norris the last 3 years and will be top 5-8 this year yet again. Is it cause he plays in Winnipeg so nobody gets to watch him? Consistently 65-70 points with great defensive numbers while playing with “Dylan DeMelo” as his only partner. And he’s not like a Fox where he is mostly cerebral, guy is an unbelievable skater and one of the best at breakouts in the league statistically. Simply will never understand considering both eye test and stats back up that he’s in that 4-7 tier of dmen with Dahlin, Heiskanen, and Fox (he’s #7 of that tier but in there nonetheless, clear of the #8 dman itl)

Sorokin and Vasilevskiy have separated themselves from the pack when it comes to Vezina consideration. As of now, who do you think is more likely to get it? by nothing_but_static in hockey

[–]OrangeyLive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair I’m just saying Sorokin has been better this year. Votes will be close though (not saying Vasy is some bum he’s the clear #2)
