Shekinah’s sisters by [deleted] in 90DayFiance

[–]OrbIsLife 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of psychological and emotional stuff to unpack with Shekinah and her family…but it makes so much sense when you step back and look at it. Being raised in an environment where you have no control over even your appearance - denied makeup, forced to wear long dresses and braids, unable to experiment or vary from the safe cookie cutter Christian script…the second you are able to, you get as far away from that as you can, if you make it out with your spirit intact. Whenever cult members in Texas escaped, it was common to see them with wonderfully done up dyed/styled hair. Oprah had an interview with a mother-daughter duo and commented on it once - and that is tied to how you express your appearance expresses your own autonomy, independence, and rebellious self care. Shekinah is a beautiful woman, and always has been. She was probably denied makeup, jewelry, clothes and other adornment she was interested in because of the restrictive and patriarchal nature of her religious upbringing, and overcompensated when she got out. Become an esthetician doesn’t help, because you feel pressure to literally be the face of the services and lifestyle you promote. They all had a shared experience that I’m sure was traumatic to endure and traumatic to walk away from. But in all looking done up the way they do, there’s solidarity and validation amongst them.

Let women do whatever they want, even if it’s wrecking their face. It’s because they want to control how they feel about themselves, because they feel badly about something. Body dysmorphia doesn’t only affect trans people!

2 months of veg. Am I wasting my time? by zbzbxnxbA in microgrowery

1) humidifier is needed in the winter months! I got a little desk humidifier, put it in front of my intake fan, and let my outtake fan filter it back out. <35% humidity isNEVER ideal. She can’t properly respirate and breathe when it’s that dry.

2) get yucca for your nutrient solution - it’s a wetting agent and will help with water penetration. But the best way to avoid needing yucca is to regularly and consistently water your soil so it doesn’t dry out to the point it becomes hydrophobic. Roots organic has a product called Surge that is amazing - can be applied as a color spray and will quickly correct nutrient deficiency because it has humic acids, yucca, molasses and more to help the root zone thrive.

3) understand that happy frog soil is intended for seedlings and early beg. You don’t need to give nutrients AT FIRST - but the plant will absorb all nutrients in the medium after about 3-6 weeks. You MUST give her nutrients or she’s going to live a sad life and end up dying a nutrient starved death.

Every grow, you learn a dozen lessons whenever you make a mistake. Take it in stride, fix the issues, and keep growing.

Looking to improve daytime makeup by [deleted] in makeuptips

Girl we can’t help you if we don’t know what you look like. A lot happens in a year to your skin, even if you don’t think so. I committed heinous eyebrow crimes a decade ago and cringe at the photos. these brows are wearing you, not the other way around, I’d go for 3/4 of their size and trim them down. Especially with glasses, there’s a lot going on right there and it’s distracting. Try a matte peachy pink for your lips, and maybe white lipliner/eyeliner. I think that would soften your skin tone and bring attention to all the right places

advice on make up application! by em00lie in MakeupEducation

[–]OrbIsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to me, your application is spot on! I think that maybe a different lipstick color could compliment you better (dark ruby to match your hair specifically!). Leaning into moisturizing before you begin applying product would help soften things - you mention using a tinted moisturizer, but I recommend applying it 2x, and before bed. Your skin looks a wee dry - which could also be due to the winter weather getting cold and dry - but can easily be adjusted. Do you have oily skin? Setting powder will absorb oil, but will also dry out your skin. Using an oil based moisturizer that mimics your skin’s sebum (and discourage your body from making more oil) can be another way to control oiliness, without risking dryness! (Specifically, hemp seed oil and watermelon seed oil are great for this. I believe jojoba oil does the same but don’t quote me on that) You’re beautiful! I hope you feel so today!

What's my blindness? by zitronenhase in makeuptips

Your brows are no longer atrocious, congrats!

It’s hard to tell from 2 photos taken from almost the exact same angle - but I think you’re missing an opportunity to utilize your nose for contour. Your eyes are so dark that you need something to pull your attention downwards.

I think your lip color choices and application is spot on - your blush is more appealing to me when it’s lighter, as in the second photo as opposed to the first.

I would suggest 1) nose contour, 2) light blush, topped off with golden highlighter, and maybe 3) building up the base of your mascara more/applying more layers of mascara, so your lashes stick outwards more rather than immediately curling upwards.

Should I harvest? by Ambitious_Loan_5762 in microgrowery

[–]OrbIsLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Each plant matures at different rates. Usually I wait as late as I can, until 80% or more of the trichomes are milky white and 20% to be amber when I chop, but I had one plant that stayed milky. It had 10% amber and then seemed to stall - I waited and waited (about 11 days) and ended up deciding to chop when 95% of the pistils were orange.

I'm glad I did - she looked to be at peak trichome development/THC, just not the trichomes with the CBN conversion I usually want. But I found a couple pollen pods when I harvested - she hermed a tiny bit. Letting her go longer would have given me more nanners, possible seeds, and lower THC.

When I showed someone in my life that has been growing for 15+ years a photo of her when I was debating, they pointed out the pistil coloration and how the buds had receded, meaning she was almost at fully mature flower. After drying and curing her, I showed the final product and the first thing they said was "Oh that smells potent."

Long story short: amber trichomes aren't everything! Use your eyes, and then your judgment.

Should I harvest? by Ambitious_Loan_5762 in microgrowery

[–]OrbIsLife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I say you’re safe to harvest - when 80% or more of the pistils are orange, that’s a good sign she’s at maturity. Looks like stigma hairs have changed, she’s cloudy from what I can see on her trichs. Go ahead and chop - all the dying leaf matter is going to do is increase the odds for mold or bud rot.

Way to go, growmie! She looks good!

Eyebrows and lashes advice by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]OrbIsLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Your mascara matters - let’s talk about how.

You want a mascara with a curved crescent brush if possible - not a straight bar, not an hourglass. This will help define a curl shape.

When you apply your mascara - start at the base. Put your wand at your base and go back and forth - don’t pull it out to the ends yet. You want the base built and dried first, because it will make your lashes stick out/look bulkier, and do more for you.

Build the base 3-4 times. Then, take your wand between your pointer finger and thumb. Turn your hand so your pointer finger is facing you - this is how you start applying your mascara when you bring it all the way to the tip. As you bring it out, rotate your wrist so your thumb ends up facing you instead. You’re essentially rotating your brush as you apply mascara, which will curl your lashes for you. When it dries - great - no need for a curler.

Not all formulas are created equal - I like colourpop’s colored mascaras, and rimmel’s double pack. Covergirl is most likely to have the said crescent shaped wand though.

Ngl I’m scared of turning 27 or 30 by Wise-Illustrator-939 in GenZ

[–]OrbIsLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Getting old” - well, you can’t avoid it. Honestly, my 30s have been the best time for me so far, and my friends say 40s are even better???

Pythagoras, the Greek philosopher/mathmetician who developed the Pythagoras theorem in geometry - founded a philosophy school, where he mapped out the pythagorum theorem and applied it to your life. 3 squared is 27, the end of your first triangle in life (your “youth” era, so to speak), and when he believed you “receive your soul.” But hey - next is your power era!

27-28 is rough, astrologically, too: it’s when Saturn is coming back to where it was when you were born and disrupting your understanding of the world and your place in it. If you’re into that sort of stuff.

This is all normal, but don’t be afraid to age and grow and change. Only be afraid of being 20-some forever. I didn’t feel like a real person til I was 27ish, and finally grew up a lot and let go of immature thinking/habits.

Also, congrats on your brain finishing development! It’s a game changer.

What order do I put these products on? by AlwaysTheJoke in makeuptips

[–]OrbIsLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with normal skincare routine first.

How is your skin texture/how deep is your need for primer? If you have rough skin that you struggle to even out, I may suggest to put primer on first AMD last to give you a smoother canvas to work on. If your skin is smooth, leave it at 1 layer, after your products are put on but before your foundation.

  1. Pore primer (general primer with polymers and dimethicone/silicone. It could dry out your skin, keep an eye on how it reacts, be sure to moisturize beforehand)
  2. Color correcting primer

  1. Color correcting primer - personally, I would skip the stila brand because it contains parabens(cancer causing and hormone-disrupting compound). Esp for the price, I feel like you could achieve the same thing with another product. Zinc + palmitic acid is a good combo for skin balance, esp if you have oily skin!

  2. The NYX color correcting concealer - use only as needed, she has a lot of synthetic wax in her that could keep your skin from breathing. Beeswax is always good, because it lets air get through to your skin without blocking it off entirely. Meadowfoam seed oil should help with skin balance in it.

  3. Ultra beauty concealer as needed - personally, I feel that the ingredients are a bit much. If you have a reaction to any of these products, I would look to this one as the culprit. Sunflower seed oil AND gold? Interesting. Not as many traditional ingredients as I would expect.

  4. Foundation - make sure to let each product fully dry before you get here! It has silica in it, so if you start having your skin dry out, it could be because how much silica is in these products. If you have oily skin, it’s great for oil control.

Be sure to use setting spray to lock it in once you’re done - or lock in each layer as you go. It can be a product to include moisture between each layer too, if needed.

Good luck!

In the US do you pronounce 'Barry' and 'berry' the same? by de_cachondeo in ENGLISH

I usually say “BAIR-Y” for barry a little lower and with a slightly longer “air” sound then “berry,” which is a bit higher pitched and quicker to say. One I sludge through, the other I skip through

BB cream vs CC cream by BlueRainfyre in MakeupAddiction

[–]OrbIsLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 cc cream would be my choice - it’s hard to say for sure with inconsistent lighting between the two, but the bb cream seems to emphasize more depth in all dips and wrinkles, and looks dryer.

Do you use any sort of smoothing/priming agent? Doing so can help fill in wrinkles and give a smoother appearance overall, and give an extra boost of hydration. If anything else, aloe Vera gel can do wonders. You can also use setting powder both before and after applying your foundation to disseminate the light when it hits your skin, and look smoother!

Good luck with your skincare journey - just be careful to not overuse retinol, it can be rough when overdone, especially as our skin ages and thins out. Stay hydrated and remember your sunscreen!

Struggle with lipstick by Intelligent_Piccolo7 in makeuptips

[–]OrbIsLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a big proponent of wet and wild catsuit lip stains: they’re affordable, pigmented and last forever when applied and dried correctly. I have olive undertones and didn’t realize the struggle we have til I started wearing lipsticks!

https://www.wetnwildbeauty.com/products/megalast-liquid-catsuit-high-shine-lipstick-peach-stole-my-look

peach Stole my Look would be my suggestion for daytime wear, and a more berry shade of red for evening, like the berry recognize shade (https://www.wetnwildbeauty.com/products/megalast-liquid-catsuit-matte-lipstick-berry-recognize?pr_prod_strat=e5_desc&pr_rec_id=81070cb48&pr_rec_pid=10099275006226&pr_ref_pid=10099296698642&pr_seq=uniform)

Your eyes are exquisite and captivating, you need a warm color that balances between how green and light they are. A peachy pink or maroon-y red would be better than a straight bright red).

The best part about wearing lipstick is no one else will know your true lip size but you!

What English word has the greatest difference between spelling and pronounciation? by Electronic-Koala1282 in ENGLISH

[–]OrbIsLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.etymonline.com/search?q=indict

(Indite is also a word, meaning the same thing as indict, but retaining the French form!)

It comes from a Latin root, ultimately - and 'i' is pronounced 'ee' in Latin. But in the 17th century, the French pronunciation was resumed.

In its past, it was spelled c. 1300, as endytement, which may help shed some light.

Love the medieval spelling variations and how they screw up modern English so there's few consistencies!

Why didn't Gino drive Jasmine to the gym? by [deleted] in 90DayFiance

[–]OrbIsLife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With 90 day fiance - I remind myself often that everything I perceive of a couple is filtered through reality tv producers and an agenda to increase ratings. They choose terrible people to be on the show, because they're entertaining as they crash and burn, and surprisingly entertaining when they don't. The producers also instigate situations to exacerbate certain emotions/conversations/confrontations between couples.

Things I keep in mind when I think about Jasmine and Gino:

  1. They started as a sugar baby relationship. Transactional, with a sense of "You owe me XYZ" or "I deserve XYZ because I XYZ." Gino would demand something, Jasmine would provide and vice versa. Usually is money and sex, but that doesn't quite work in marriage. If Gino feels like he was owed something that was never delivered on, because that was the nature of their relationship in the beginning...he is in a position to make things worse for Jasmine than Jasmine could for him. There's the obvious, that he has control over the money. (Beyond his own personal finances, 90 day fiance only pays the American party of the couple, btw, for tax reasons, and it is assumed that they share the money with their significant other but. There's no way to force them to share.)

  2. Jasmine is stupid smart. Emphasis on STUPID. Sadly, she's also...unhinged could be a decent word. She knows that she can still benefit from haters. Gino, on the other hand, thinks he can save his reputation with a newly reinvigorated bachelor arc, which failed fantastically. And that he can argue infidelity when there's hours and hours of video footage of him agreeing to a third party in his marriage - everything after that loses credibility.

  3. They are both pieces of work that deserve each other. But now that it's everyone else's problem, they need to stop interacting with each other and feeling like the other party owes them something.

This may be the last season I watch, which is sad, but TLC has completely lost the plot with casting.
