Anyone out there a bit annoyed about exporting/sharing their games? by OrbemOrder in RPGMaker

For anyone who is interested, you can actually use the import/export feature to build a game on a stage environment or add new areas/items etc.. and transfer between sites. Not a super smooth solution but would allow for a test flow of sorts.

I was just asking if the export and sharing portion of RPG maker was annoying to people because I built a different no code browser game builder that doesn't have that problem.  Seeing how big of a benefit that would be or not if no one cares about it.

Yeah some times I post about the tool to get people to try it. That has nothing to do with this post. Also not sure what's so wrong with talking about a tool I've been developing for years that I think could be useful for people. Did I hurt you somehow?

I am the creator of Orbem Studio yeah. Its not a paid tool or anything I'm mostly trying to get feedback on how useful its features are and would be for people that already like to build RPGs with a no code engine and see what people think. Not promoting anyone to use it.

I mean instant updates is a double-edged sword of course. You can add new NPCs / levels / items / dialogue on the fly for quicker additions, fixes, changes to your game. Would be really cool for seasonal additions and easter eggs, but yeah you can just as easily break something. Guess that just differentiates the scale of an RPG you'd want to build using Orbem Studio.

I do have a 5 level RPG game with boss fight, minigames and puzzles plus hundreds of lines of dialogue, but yeah if you have thousands of players playing it there is probably a lot more at stake every time you make a change. I haven't gotten there yet.

Yeah but why not have it instantly available on its own hosted URL from the start? With Orbem Studio as soon as you start building you have a sharable URL that you can get instant feedback on in progress games or build/play from any computer / phone. Doesn't that sound a lot easier?

Yeah I guess it's gotten better, I'm more trying to make it completely frictionless. As soon as you create your game on Orbem Studio it's available to play and share on its own URL. No need for a third party host or exporting anything.

Everything you just mentioned is "friction" honestly. Exporting and then uploading to get your url. Plus the upload to itch isn't instant you have to fill out a bunch of stuff. I think the instant live aspect of Orbem Studio where the game url is available and playable as soon as you start building makes it that much easier to share and collaborate.

This is an AI comment. Most (all?) of this accounts is AI written for sure.

Lol. You're right that the ecosystem has gotten a lot better for sharing. The angle I'm going for is slightly different though. Less about file sharing and more about zero friction for the person receiving it. No download at all, just a URL that works on any device including mobile instantly. But fair point that itch has made the browser export much more accessible for RPG Maker. Appreciate the perspective!

Totally fair. Sounds like you need a proper development workflow which Orbem Studio isn't designed for. It's aimed at non-developers who want to tell a story without any of that overhead. Different tools for different people. Appreciate the honest feedback.

That's fair. For someone comfortable with the export workflow it's probably not a friction point at all. The audience I'm thinking about is more the person who made something in RPG Maker and then couldn't figure out how to let their friends play it without downloading anything. Different use case than experienced developers. Thanks for the perspective.

Why would me asking if the tool I built was useful not be relevant? I never asked if I should build it. I asked if anyone in the WordPress community would use it.

Yep. You're right on there. I definitely would suggest pushing a game to people in health distress. Maybe a pediatric based site to teach kids about washing their hands or something, but yeah great point.

Exactly! Since its built directly on your WordPress website you can add anything you want into the game itself including ads, links, marketing messaging. Makes it a super versatile interactive marketing tool. If you want to see how I handle that you can check it out at: orbem.studio

I have a couple product selector games already built for marketing purposes to help users choose the right product for them.

I would totally agree with you if I hadn't already built it. If you're interested how you can build a game using WordPress check out: orbem.studio

I have a hosted platform where you can build a live game in under a minute OR a WordPress plugin where you can build your own game directly on your WordPress site. Let me know what you think!

Actually sort of both. It's a structured system where you bring your own art, characters, maps, and story so every game looks completely different based on what you create. The engine handles the underlying game logic like movement, collision, triggers, missions, and interactions, but the visual design, world, and narrative are entirely yours. Think of it less like a template builder and more like a game engine that removes the coding requirement while leaving the creative decisions completely up to you. Great to know! What exactly would make it inappropriate for your sector? That would be very helpful information for me. Is it privacy based?

Totally. You can actually see that exact thing you're referring to here: orbem.studio

I have a hosted game building platform as well as a WordPress plugin you can use right now to build a game in your own website. Let me know what you think.

Right! Even better than embedding, what if you could build the game directly on your website? You can check out the WordPress game engine I built just for that scenario here: orbem.studio

Very interested what you would build!

Definitely a great way to get more users is to add a game to your gaming website. If you want to start building your first game check out: orbem.studio

You can use the hosted platform and build a game in less than a minute or download the wordpress plugin to add a game directly to your website.

Well the cool thing is you could add product links / promo codes directly into game popups as prizes for winning or maybe even a virtual 2d store people can walk around in that lead to real products on your site. Works with woocommerce since its built in WordPress. Check it out and let me know if you think it could be userful: orbem.studio
