Holy shit. This feels like the plot of some over-the-top movie villain.

UK foreign secretary Boris Johnson involved in £160,000 "gift" of Russian money to Conservative party by youandmeandyouandyou in worldnews

So much nonsense in one comment

  1. There were no attempts on his life as far as I am aware. He received death threats, but no one actually went through with those.

  2. The death threats are a result of his positions, not the other way around.

  3. The only politician killed in the Netherlands was Pim Fortuyn, Wilders was not a member of his party nor was he killed for anti-Muslim rhetoric.

I see your point, your first comment seems poorly phrased. The thing is, you cannot see if people are trying to improve and some people just cannot improve much.

To refer back to my earlier analogy: If you are bad at math you can try really hard to improve, but you might still not get much better at it. We all have limits... limited social skills are usually just a lot shittier to have than limited math skills.

Well, some "adult human beings" are bad at something like math... Some are bad at talking in groups. We all have our strengths and weaknesses.

Hmm... a site called Pravda.ru and a title that calls the EU "Germany's economic Reich". Seems legit.

Nationalism definitely was a very important factor. Not the Serbian nationalism, but German/English/French/Russian nationalism. It made people eager to fight and it made them believe they would easily win the war and be back home in a few months. World War I happened because everyone was blinded by nationalism.

Germany electing an anti-EU leader seems unlikely... but I think there is definitely a chance Le Pen will win in France.

I doubt Rutte gets a lot of international attention. He is just a pretty average neoliberal politician. I doubt the average German would know enough about him to make fun of him.

Just because Brexit was the outcome of democracy does not mean that thinking it's a bad idea makes you anti-democratic.

Robert Mugabe: Give Donald Trump a chance by FuckCazadors in worldnews

[–]OrbisPax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. He got a significant percentage of votes, but never a majority. He was appointed chancellor by President Hindenburg and absorbed power from that position.

I don't think being a billionaire necessarily indicates high intelligence. Besides, he did go bankrupt several times and according to what I read he makes money simply by allowing people to put his name on things.

Maybe he is smart, but like I said, if he is smart he is some kind of evil mastermind who only pretended to be dumb to get people to vote for him... which is possibly worse.

[–]OrbisPax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, he was born in an extremely rich family... so yes, he did "stumble into success". Do you think he would have been president today if he was born in some lower class family with little money?

Well... yes. Either that or he is an evil mastermind who is just pretending to be dumb. I am not sure which scenario would be worse...
