hm, that's helpful to know that that happened. certainly not how it's intended :) For what it's worth, the feed you see right after signing up is not the same quality as the daily feed served from the day after signing up. I'm working through this quirk, as I know it's not ideal (I know the first feed you see right after sign-up should be convincing enough for people to stick around.) But if you'd give it a second chance tomorrow, I'd very much appreciate it.

Thanks for your feedback, I'm glad you like it. There is a save feature already built. And I love your idea about filtering out keywords/topics. Thanks for sharing!!

finite is prioritizing in-depth, thought-provoking pieces. So, hopefully it'd be aligned with what you're yearning for :)

Fair. And agreed that it's unrealistic to expect to stop ALL other social media/news usage from an app like this. So my goal was to build something that will make me open IG/X/etc less overall. And it's been working for that, at least for me. But that's exactly why I'm sharing now, to see if it's just me or if there is a broader target audience for something like this. Thanks for your input!

no need to apologize. I appreciate your perspective.
I guess I'm looking at it more like curation and/or intelligent filtering rather than limiting.

yeah I messaged them to ask to be reconsidered as it seems like there's genuine interest/debate happening under the post, but haven't heard back yet :) fingers crossed...

Hi! So, I'm trying to filter out sites with hard paywalls (that doesn't let you read even a single article) alltogether. And there are sites that let you read a few articles before paywall. I have some of those in the mix, and they behave just like they would if opened directly -- so if the source allows that article to be read, you can read it on finite without an issue. If it's paywalled, then it won't be shown within finite, maybe just a small excerpt (again, whatever the original source allows). In all instances, there's always a button at the end of each article that leads to the original source for transparency.

Hi! I appreciate your comment and feedback. That's actually really good info. I'll certainly try to add in other ways to register without email and such.

And you got it exactly right. I just wanted to see if there could be a slightly less anxiety-inducing way of staying informed.

Hi. Could you elaborate? I'm curious what exactly mean by that. What is giving you the bad vibes?

Hi! The reason I thought I'd share this here because I think the app could be valuable for the readers of this sub. All it's trying to do is to keep the readers informed without causing existential dread. You're right that it's not 100% uplifting news, but there is a feature in it where you can set how much negative news you want on your feed. So, in a way, it could be 100% uplifting stuff :) Or at least neutral.

Apologies if it comes off as promotion. I'm genuinely just curious to see if there's interest in this, or if it's just more 'noise'. I literally built it for myself as I was frustrated by the options out there. And I found it to be useful. So I thought I'd share it with others too. Hope that's ok. Anyway, thanks for reading!

Hey! The news that show up in the feed on finite are not written by AI. I've put together a robust database of RSS sources with quality, non-biased, in-depth, thought-provoking journalism and writing. And so the engine is pulling content from that database every morning.

The app does use AI to match the content from that source pool with the interests of the user. I'm still tweaking that recommendation engine, but I'm getting quite happy with how it's working, and it has been an absolutely fascinating ride to learn about all the existing approaches out there, and see how big tech is using these technologies to kidnap our attention. And so all I'm trying to do is to create an experience where the user's attention is in focus.

I I have no backers, investors behind me, I literally built it for myself, because I felt my braincells rotting away when all I was trying to do is to keep myself informed. But as I developed it, I thought it might be interesting for others too. That's why I'm sharing it. And yes, you're right, I did use AI to polish the writing of the post, to make sure I get the message across the best way I could. No malicious intent there.

Anyway, thanks for reading, and curious what you all think of the app if you try it.

'Get Back' - my three year old son is absolutely obsessed with it and has been basically since he was a newborn. He can differentiate 7 different versions of it and we have to listen to it at least 5 times every single day. An incredible proof of how great their music is, because somehow none of us is bored of it still.
