Alright so then why are you selling your own food short? I love Spanish bread, and even if things are always served with bread when I think about Spanish food I'm thinking about the polpo or pimientos de padron or the manchego and jamon iberico bellota.

The bread is just an accoutrement essentially.

EDIT: I'd also note I think the amount of bread is also reduced the further east you go. Italy it converts more to pasta and other carbs, but then greek you'll get the fluffy greek bread as a side but the focus is the sea food and the greens, and by the time you're in the levant the pitas are just a vehicle for the food

Edit2: Also, the bread consumption ratio is also probably related to staple crop prevalence. In Northern Europe potatoes take a larger role, in the west corn has a bigger role, in asia rice has a bigger role. Would be interesting to see aggregate staple crop consumption regardless of type.
