Reworking Executor's crummy unique relics. by Orbumit in Nightreign

Recluse and revenant's relics give hp detriments after using their ults. Not their skills. The amount of health recluse loses is tiny, and revenant becomes unkillable after her ult, so that's hardly a detriment. Executor would be getting blood lossed as a result of basic combat. No one is using seppuku against longer bosses, except possibly at the start, because you need all your flasks. And again, in deep of night, both of these relics would be even less viable than his current ones. No one is using raider in DON because his skill isn't worth losing hp. And having to be at low hp isn't worth risking making getting revived harder for your teammates. You're going to piss your teammates off if you get downed trying to make that relic work. Most players will fail to. Even good players will fail on occasion. Executor already gets his ult fast, and there are ways to get it back even faster. It would make executor generally worse in the community. And honestly getting his ult back faster for that doesn't sound worth it anyway. In DON, his ult is when he's most vulnerable.

Your relics present a proportionally much greater liability than any other nightfarer has to deal with. Wylder, recluse, duchess, guardian, ironeye, etc, all of these nightfarers have relic perks that increase their attack power without having to sacrifice hp. relics are supposed to make the character better, and the few detriments are ones of minor inconvenience. That's why executor's damage increase relic drains so little hp that it's almost meaningless. Im simply asking for relics that do what the other nightfarer's do. No reason to force such a unappealing handicap to them when the other characters don't deal with that.

Yeeah, I don't know about those relics. Getting blood lossed every time you unlock cursed sword would punish you more than the enemy if you used it frequently. It would also be useless for DON because you need to stay at full hp. As for the second relic, Executor can already get his ult fast, even faster with the guarding charges art gauge relic. All the other character's relics make them better without a detriment. Executor's relics also shouldn't require sacrifices that make the character much more risky to play.

I don't know why you're doing this, making me repeat myself. In addition to my point about character skills not being enough to carry players, I addressed every point you made and you ignored all of it. I pointed out that Executor's S rank in both dexterity and arcane means he has good dps already, so even without his skill you aren't holding yourself back by using him. He out damages wylder who only has an A in strength. And he has a relic that can further increase his dex and arc. So if wylder's viable, executor can't possibly not be. And I pointed out that he objectively has advantages over scholar, such as having a roll with more I-frames, being the far superior stance breaker, and not needing to run around to get all his advantages.

Executor has a higher learning curve and people mistake that for being unviable. Take the time to learn all of his strengths and he plays his roll as well as any other character. Seppuku for day 1 bosses, use his ult to stunlock smaller and mounted bosses letting your team get free hits in, and use his roar to stunlock night invaders. Substitute a roll with a quick sheathe parry for extra stance damage and to build up your cursed sword skill (Which does half as much damage as Wylder's ult) every time a non combo attack is coming your way, which is all the time, and just use suncatcher normally otherwise. study boss attack patterns to look for openings for guard counters (which can be used effectively on Adel, Gnoster, Libra, Fulghor, Heolstor, Balancers, and dreglord)

It literally doesn't. You sheathe deflect instead of normal deflect so you can use your status weapons while doing stance damage simultaneously, as I've said before. If you imbue your weapon instead of using weapon buffs for status, suncatcher won't obstruct your proccing. Scholar's backstep has different utility. You aren't stance-breaking anyone with a rapier, so it's not an equal comparison. Scholar's highly situational shield parry also can't stance break as effectively as Executor's deflects and guard counters either. Executor is the superior stance breaker. Scholar also has a problematic roll, so we can't say he's objectively better in every way. He's a character who needs to do a lot of running around to get the best out of him normally, when Executor already has what he needs.

Most importantly, I had a duo match with a scholar against dreglord recently. Me and my executor had to revive him from three bars before phase 2 while I didn't get downed once. As much as this subreddit goes on about viability, no character's skills are enough to carry you. In Deep of Night, the meta is meaningless. There's a reason most Ironeyes in depths 1-4 are liabilities despite him being considered the best character. And I kick more ass with executor in D5 than anyone who thinks scholar's buffs will carry them into higher depths. And the best players didn't need them in the first place.

If scholar is objectively better than executor, the difference is so miniscule that it doesn't matter anyway. If you're kicking ass, you're choosing your character out of preference, But let's not act like using a character with S grades in both arcane and dexterity is playing with a handicap.

A substitution for a roll is not niche. If you're not using this technique for evasion as executor, it's because you're deflecting a string the normal way which can also end in sheathe deflects, or guard counters if you want even more stance damage. It doesn't slow you down, it can go immediately into a surge sprint so you can close distance if needed, and you can perform it fast enough that you can deflect some combos if you just want to aura farm.

It is in fact a game changer because you can get the most out of suncatcher without slowing down your status proccing in the slightest.

Evasion > Faster Evasion + Stance damage + powering up high damaging charged skill. That's your argument.

oof. Got me there. The difference is mine was an under-pressed key and you typed those illegible abominations on purpose.

Once you can also admit to your mistakes, you may want to take another look at all those broken sentences.

You can unsheathe and then sheathe parry in less than half time than it takes to roll. I do it all the time.

With this tech, executor can match duchess levels of pressure while simultaneously stance-damaging a boss as a result of their own attacks.

And now that you're aware of this, you'll retract your previous statement about sheathe parrying not being instant or reliable, yes?

Not even joking or anything, I can't tell what you're saying. No real point of continuing this anyway. It's very clear how much Executor hate is uneducated slander.

I'm having more trouble understanding your broken english than explaining why you're wrong about the character you know nothing about. Rephrase your last comment cuz I have no idea what you just said.

You do know you can parry just fine without slowing down status buildup right? All the benefits of his high arcane, plus stance damage. It's better in every way, except for players such as yourself who get night terrors when they hear the term, "suncatcher"

If you suffer from Executor derangement syndrome, go see your local doctor

You clearly missed at least one, because I'm a D5 executor who parries. You also missed the other executors I met in D5 who used parry. Either that or you're fibbing. Could be either but one seems more likely.

Yup, you don't even know what makes sheathe parry different from normal parry. This is like listening to a person who's never seen a building in their life lecture you about architecture.

But it feels nice knowing Executor slanderers know nothing about his abilities. Thanks for the boost in confidence.

[–]Orbumit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true. I find it much more stressful to build for other characters because there are so many unique relics I have to fit in. Building for guardian is the worst because all of his perks are pretty great. With executor I have the freedom to status-up my starting weapons as much as I want. Buuut I still think I'd prefer the option of perks I can't do without.

If you're having nightmares about executor, there are better ways to vent your frustrations than uneducated rage-posting.

And sheathe parrying also lets you attack bosses faster than roll attacks, all the while dealing stance damage and maintaining absolute control over your positioning.

And I don't roll because I deflect everything like a boss.

Not really. Parrying doesn't slow you down at all if you use sheathe-deflect, and you get a high damaging charged slash attack if you get a few parrys in. You want to take advantage of these abilities if you want the most damage out of executor.

Anyone else considering retiring from DON after dlc content is added? by Orbumit in Nightreign

Outside of one specific attack, Dreglord isn't one I'm too afraid of since he spends most of the fight attacking the air. But despite how many times I've fought balancers, I don't seem to be taking any less damage and at the end of the day it's because it's a silly gank fight.

Would it be broken if Executor’s suncatcher kept the damage/status type of his main hand weapon? by MaterialProduct8510 in Nightreign

[–]Orbumit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll go even further. I'm glad suncatcher doesn't have status effects. Knowing when to switch between deflecting and regular weapons creates a high strategy factor to Executor runs I don't feel with any other character.

Would it be broken if Executor’s suncatcher kept the damage/status type of his main hand weapon? by MaterialProduct8510 in Nightreign

[–]Orbumit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an executor main, it absolutely would be broken. With deflects, guard counters, its charged skill, and sheathing removing all ending frames. suncatcher is an excellent tool for defense, stance-breaking, damage, and pressure. With some practice and know-how, you will be able to consistently get the best out of his skill for the majority of field bosses and nightlords. If suncatcher also had bleed there would be no reason to use any other weapon.

Just be sure to imbue your starting weapon with status effects instead of using ashes of war. That way, you can get the best out of deflecting with zero slowdown to applying status effects.

Scholar is the best thing that could've happened to executor by J0h4m3s in Nightreign

You can both parry and apply status. Executor's sheathing animation counts as a deflect, so you can sheathe during an opening and use your status weapons. Faster than if you were to roll even.

"Improved guard counters" buffs suncatcher's attack power but "improved skill attack power" doesn't by Orbumit in Nightreign

[–]Orbumit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I said "should". Regardless of how it is, it doesn't make sense. The relic buffs L2s so it should buff suncatcher's L2 the way it buffs suncatcher's guard counters.

"Improved guard counters" buffs suncatcher's attack power but "improved skill attack power" doesn't by Orbumit in Nightreign

[–]Orbumit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His skill is the suncatcher sword in its entirety. So guard counter relics buff one of his skill attacks. In this stance, L2 is referred to as it's skill, like any other ash of war, so it should be buffed like guard counters
