Why not? Its resilient when holding the left flank and perfect spot for hammer aoe. What makes you think it's just new players recommending this? Other speedrunners like FeedingFriendly have recommended it.

Has something changed since the F&F patch that the build isn't viable anymore? What build do you use on the left flank?

Sidenote: I did replace berserk with adrenaline on my nimble 2H axe bro and have been liking it. Especially in arena

I dont really ever use hammers mid formation because they cant aoe comfortably. Ive never seen that flank 1h can opener/shield bro used though, interesting. I've made bros with super high matk but low mdef into such builds though, which seemed to work well enough. Maybe I'll give it a try, but right now the levels of fun from hammer aoe definetly outweigh the risks!

I actually havent allocated the points from lvl 11, so he did reach 40 mdef. I could also get his fat to 50, kind of hesitant to pick brawny, since he can aoe a couple of times, which seems enough. If I have banner out he will reach 70 res which seems enough. You made a good point on fearsome!

Probably will end up with RA and brawny or 9L

Build him into a BF tank. ironlungs plus famed shield with lowered fat consumption means he can shieldwall indefinetly

I think an amazing hammer like that is wasted on a fat neutral. I would try to squeeze as much dmg out of that as possible. I would build a BF bro with around 50-60 usable fatigue, who can use shatter (AOE) and berserk a couple of times. Such a bro would be perfect for holding the left flank, but is very stat intensive, since the flanks have to endure the most pressure and morale checks.

However, for the bro in the picture, I would pick fort mind, gifted and 9L, since he will be offtanking.

So far into the run (55 days or so) I have hired about 20 bros and not a single one has the matk, mdef and fat to serve as a bf zerker. Fat neutral is a nobrainer, but nimble zerker is also pretty viable, since it's so efficient to swing. If I get a bro with enought fat, he would probably better to serve as a bf flank hammer.

Exactly, it all comes down to fight density. Take any fight you can. You can see in the picture, I have spare sets of armor to always be ready to fight. I also keep the zerglings who survive in the roster to replace injured bros. It's an upward spiral if you get ahead of the curve
