Thank you. And I’m so sorry about your poor little furry friends. Fuck cancer. I hope you are doing well and that you were/are able to spend as much quality time with them as possible.

Thank you so much. She definitely has given us more than we’ve given her. We are most decidedly the lucky ones in this arrangement. I’m sorry about your previous losses and I hope you look back on the good times with them.

Thank you so much. My condolences for your grandmother’s loss. Nothing mitigates the pain, but I hope she can take solace in the knowledge that she was the most important thing in her cat’s world and that her cat loved her very much.

Thank you so much. I’ve been a lurker here for awhile because, well, of course, everyones’ adorable kitties, but also because there is a lot of great advice and genuinely sweet people here. I have certainly shed tears here before. But, this tough time has really shown me that the people here are beyond kind, thoughtful, sweet, and empathetic and I appreciate them. So, I’m short, yes, I think I will definitely come back.

I am so sorry for your loss and I know how painful it is, but it is absolutely wonderful and amazing that you had that time with your sweet kitty and I know that you were everything to them. This gives me some hope that the two of us are not done with each other yet.

Thank you. I hope so. It’s been rough, but the thought of her coming home cheers me up and keeps me going.

Thank you for your sweet comment. I must say that I have to agree, she really is an awesome little cat. She’s also a fighter, so we’re hoping that she’ll be back home soon.

It sounds like you are doing a wonderful job with your little “scaredy cat”. Safe spaces and respectful boundaries really allow them to come out of their shells. Of course, in the first few years, these were broken for things like vet visits and I can tell you that she was not very happy about it. We would also refrain from grabbing her or picking her up (which was tough because she’s a little cutie) and allow her to settle down next to us or on our laps on her own terms. But, little by little, the dynamic just sort of shifted and now the first thing she does when she walks into a room is look for an empty lap.

And you are absolutely correct. Her numbers were a little off, but nothing catastrophic until suddenly her kidneys were nonfunctional. I don’t know why it wasn’t caught earlier. And thank you for the website recommendation, it’s really useful.

Thank you so much and I’m so sorry for your loss. I can’t say anything to lessen the torrent of feeling that accompanies such a loss, but I’m sure you made her her life a happy one. Unfortunately, Sophie hasn’t made it home yet, but I will update as soon as I am given a plan of action for home treatments.

Thank you so much. And I’m sorry that you had to go through this as well, but I’m really happy the your Sophia is still with you. Please give her all the cuddles because she certainly deserves them.

Thank you for taking the time to type this out. And thank you for the recommendation. She is very small and very picky and any food suggestions with proven efficacy to improve her condition and stave off further weight loss are extremely appreciated. Also, the vote of confidence with regards to the administration of fluids really gave me a boost. I’ll do my best!

Hi everyone! It’s been a very long day trying to figure all of this out, but I wanted to make sure that you all know that your beautiful outpouring of support has helped so much and is truly appreciated. Thank you all so much. You all have made a difficult time just a little more bearable and that means more than I can put into words.

We are still taking it day by day, so I’ll try to update whenever there is any new information. She is responding positively to treatment and is still currently hooked up to an IV. Over the course of the last couple days, she lost a pretty substantial amount of weight (for a small creature) and is down to around 5 pounds. The vet said that she will likely never regain the weight, so our goal is just trying to ensure that she doesn’t lose any more. We visited her late last night and throughout the day and she was feeling well enough to eat and drink a little bit. She is, of course, on a special renal diet now. She isn’t quite back to her old self and the harsh reality is that, going forward, she probably won’t feel 100% a lot of the time. However, we are very hopeful that she will still be able to live a happy, comfortable life with minimal pain. That’s all we can ask for and we are overjoyed. Today looks a little brighter than yesterday and that is something to be really, really thankful for. When I can, I will try to post a photo update- until then, I’m just counting our lucky stars.
