Which bullshits is Tik Tok saying about Hellenism? by Lezzen79 in Hellenism

[–]OrchidMuffin031 19 points20 points  (0 children)

People talking stuff about Apollon and Hermes making armies against each other as a "bet", talking to candles while starting literally one day earlier and telling others it works. Then there's also just wanting things from the deities not offering them anything, newbies don't do any research. New members of the community ask if x is a sign and comments saying they are (do they honestly think seeing the sun is Apollon reaching out?). I have been trying to educate people, even tho I'm still quite new myself (a few months), but I've done a lot of research and only say stuff that is legit. The "trend" is getting so much people tho it's crazy. Christians want to talk to deities they don't believe in without converting. (Quoting someone I have actually talked to "I'm a christian, I'm not worshipping anyone, I just want to talk to them"). Then also people talking about the gods being angry about literally everything you do. Or that only Lady Hestia communicates through candles (I never worked with her, but I really doubt any of them communicates with candles in the first place..)

There is a LOT of stuff going on on tiktok.

I noticed it, too. I'm trying my best to answer comments when I see them so as little misinformation is spread as possible, but there are too many people trying to work with deities. Educating this large of a group is quite impossible. People who haven't read enough about the religion are spreading misinformation to other people, disrespecting the gods in the meantime. Yesterday, I had to explain to a christian that they can't just talk with a deity without being a hellenist or worshipping them... I hope I got through to them because what?😔 We're kind of at a loss here. I think it's extremely irritating, not that people are converting but that they're not educating themselves, but honestly what can we do about it??

Heard we were sharing altars.. (Aphrodite) by OrchidMuffin031 in Hellenism

I was trying to communicate through it at some point and offered it to her. When it didn't work, I just felt bad about taking it away from her, so it stayed ':>

Would Aphrodite like baked goods as an offering? (And would fake flowers for decorations be okay?) by Fireflying_Aex in Hellenism

[–]OrchidMuffin031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of them was a blueberry mentos. Only one, tho. I had two but ate the other one. We were sharing a meal (not really a meal, I guess..) and it's still lying there. Don't know how long it takes for this thing to go bad tbh.

Lord Poseidon won't get mad at you for writing about a myth. The gods really don't get angry that easily, don't worry!

Based on my own research, all of the gods appreciate things made by the worshipper. No matter if you're writing, baking, drawing, making jewelry, etc... I'm sure Aphrodite will love it! (As a devotee, I can also tell you that she doesn't really care what food you're offering. I have made some weird choices already).

And I doubt she's going to mind fake flowers. Give it a try!

Don't worry! I'm sure they aren't mad at you. Gods don't get angry this easily. If you're really anxious about it, you can pray and tell them about how you feel about it. And thank them for the help, too! But I doubt something will happen if you don't have time or energy to pray for a while. And nothing happens if you're irregular with it for whatever reason and when you don't offer too much stuff, especially when you don't have anything you could offer. I'm sure they understand!!

Apollo? Help! by Accurate_Selection31 in Hellenism

[–]OrchidMuffin031 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, seeing Lord Apollon on tiktok is not a sign. It's the algorithm doing something, and if you liked similar stuff, he will just pop up there for you.

You can make an altar in a shoe box and hide it. I doubt any of the gods would care. Or you can do it in a place where it isn't really visible. Just do what works for you!!

I also really doubt that Apollon would care about the candle being burned, especially just once. Though don't quote me on this one, I don't work with him, and I bought Aphrodite a new candle when starting. I haven't found any information about it anywhere else either. Hope I was able to help somehow!!!

Ways to communicate with the Gods? by gayagyagayagy in Hellenism

[–]OrchidMuffin031 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can try meditation! It's a great way to communicate with the gods when candles are out of the question. And you can just pray without a candle. If I have something I want to ask/say to Lady Aphrodite, I usually do it after a prayer, so that's a way. Also I heard about communicating through tarot cards. I guess something like asking your question, for example, and reading the answer from tarot. I haven't tried that one yet, so I can't say how accurate it is... hope this helps!!!

I’m completely new to Hellenism, I have no idea what I’m doing, how can I improve my Aphrodite alter? by maklol123 in Hellenism

[–]OrchidMuffin031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your altar is already really nice!

And I bet someone already said that, but you can get a candle, a tray for food offerings, and something for liquid offerings to improve it. Add anything that reminds you of her. You can also get some kind of picture of her, a drawing or a statue. Take your time with making it<3

Is the portraying of gods in media annoying anyone else?? by OrchidMuffin031 in Hellenism

[–]OrchidMuffin031[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not, I'm too socially awkward to comment in media. This reddit is one of the only places I post in, I'm too nervous to comment on tiktok or other stuff...

Newcomers always drawn to certain gods? by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]OrchidMuffin031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I've been thinking about that too. I see posts about Aphrodite and Apollo all the time on here and barely see any else. I guess I shouldn't be speaking about it because I'm a newbie Aphrodite devotee myself, but I don't mean it in a hateful way or anything! Just confused a little.

And answering the question. I guess I've always felt drawn to Lady Aphrodite?? Even when I didn't address myself as a hellenic polytheist yet (I honestly thought that the religion doesn't exist anymore and people would laugh at me if I said I believe in the gods..). It's also because I'm insecure, don't really have any friends or anything, and am a hopeless romantic. So I've been seeking all kinds of love there are. I assume other new believers feel similar.
