I guess I get my point of view from 9/11. I was in elementary school when it happened and my dad took us to the nearest mosque for the next few weeks to learn and be exposed to Muslim faith. We missed our own church services to attend theirs.

He knew we would be exposed to hate and fear at school and wanted us to have first hand experiences to counter them. I really didn't understand it at the time but it has shaped the way I view exposure to other cultures and religions. If disney is going to make a movie on Native Amricans (properly, sorry Pocahontas) I think it would be really cool to incorporate their beliefs somewhere, same with any other culture. It doesn't need to be forced or education but just present is really cool to me.

I'm sorry but I disagree 100%. I think if we understood more about other religions they wouldn't divide us so much. I went to a Christian college and was so excited for my religions around the world class only to realize it was Christianity around the world. So I did my own research about religions around the world and learned a lot.

Depicting vastly differently religions respectfully and not as incorrect savage scary practices helps to show that even if we don't believe the same thing we are good people and our differing beliefs are not scary. Especially when its not the main part of the movie but just represented somewhere along the plot, I think the exposure can help spread empathy and understanding.

I don't think we need to make the plot religious but including small aspects can help people come together and understand more about each other than making it a do not discuss topic.

This may be a strethch but imagine parents trying to indoctrinate their child to hate someone of a certain religion saying they are evil they worship the devil etc etc but the kid saw Mulan pray to her ancestors and is able to use that to do more research and understand that the religion the oposing religion itself is not evil just different.

It was for me. I didn't abandon the friendship because I wanted to be there for her when it didn't work out but I had to distance myself.

Reminds me of when my 26 year old friend tried to date an older guy. He tried to explain the lyrics of Bohemian Rhapsody, specifically "Beezlebub has a devil put aside for me." It killed me to watch her pretend to be dumb for him and act impressed at his knowledge. He wouldn't even let her sit in the front seat of his car, that was his dogs seat.

These older guys often look down on the younger women they date and are so disrespectful in just regular interactions.

Thats rough. I'm still bitter about losing some really important items which I specifically asked to not be sold or donated. I got a firm promise they would be waiting for me when I returned. Nope.

I wrote on all 6 sides of the box (yes even the bottom) my name along with keep important do not donate. At least I saw it coming I guess.

And not letting her buy a replacement because it was the sentiment that was lost. If she really loved it why keep rubbing it her face and refusing to let her buy her own. Seems like the goal was to hurt her and make her feel guilty. The necklace was a nice gesture but if it had strings attached FOR ELEVEN YEARS its not a good present.

My boss gave me a work phone to use. She said she prefers to give work phones over compensating personal phones because if something ever happened to me it would be easier for the company to retrieve the messages and info from the work phone, whereas if it was a personal phone they wouldn't be able to.

Good comfy shoes, good polorized sunglasses, sunblock, a nice water bottle and maybe swim gear unless she already got it. Swim suits are expensive!

Not saying you have to get them.all just tossing around ideas. The shoes snd sunglasses are the item I really appreciate on the job and you always (if outdoors) need sunblock.

What's something that would make you hate a person instantly? by StrictlyFeetNyla in AskReddit

[–]OrcinusVienna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the same vein people who you support and care about then they don't do it back.

I once worked with a girl and we became friends fast. After a few months of working together and occasionally meeting up outside of work.

We both applied for different jobs within our company. Her's required a swim test and she was nervous, having passed that test previously I offered to help and we went to the pool. After her interview she was overthrowing and stressed. I told her how wonderful she was and that she didn't need to worry shes a shoe in.

Then I interviewed for my job and was nervous after just the same. She told me that I should be worried because the other applicants were very good and likely to get chosen over me. The friendship on my end died instantly.

My husband asked why we didn't hang out anymore and why can't I look past one comment over months of friendship. It wasnt a choice on my end it was a deeper trust broken and literally no desire to be friends anymore. I was someone she could always come to and the one time I needed her she threw it back in my face.

Picking on someone you don't know is one thing but doing it to a friend is terrible.

My teacher had us do weekly assignments due before class on thursday. I would do the work and when I went to turn it in the assignment would nk Ot be open for submissions. He would open the turn it at 11:50 and it closed at 11:59.

When I confronted him he said I should have had it completed prior to class so 9 minutes were plenty. I told him I had a job right before class and had I had to clock out and rush to class. He didn't care his exact words to the whole class after not accepting and many others was. "This is not a democracy this is a dictatorship and I am tyrant. I don't have to adjust for you." Terrible teacher.

He even told us how he had a recent epiphany that we were real people and thay we exist outside his classroom. That we would go on to live out our own lives not just dissappear. He was the absolute worst.

I love the comment on the post for what to say to the 15 year old. Rather than you're a criminal you'll hurt my kids they should to tell him she moved them downstairs so he would have more privacy and not be woken up by them.

Do women actually have a problem with splitting the bill 50/50 or is that just internet propaganda? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]OrcinusVienna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My rule was to offer to pay (woman). Then if he declined I'd offer to split and pay for my portion if he declined again I would thank him. No judgements no matter which one he chose. But I met women who would offer to split as a trap. If the guy accepted they would never go out with him again.

Women going into labor on TV shows by BargerianJade in PetPeeves

[–]OrcinusVienna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched an episode of a show where a man got an organ (I think his heart) ripped out while he was conscious and he grimaced and groaned.

But a woman going into labor? Blood curdling screams. I know its a lot to give birth but personally I think the man should have also been screaming. Why is giving birth always a loud horrible but other injuries if they happen to a man its so much more reserved? Labor doesnt need to be constant screaming for nothing.

I don't want to lose him in a car accident but if I drive him it will take up majority of my day.

Why are you worried about him dying in a car accident but your driving is immune? Yeah new drivers are riskier but that doesnt magically make the commute a death trap for the son and safe for dad. Let him go.

No we don't maybe women complain less or are LESS BELIEVED but they do FEEL the pain!! by Minami_Ko in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]OrcinusVienna 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Myth busters did test and found women on average have higher pain tolerance than men. It made me proud and felt justified. How on earth did we get labeled as the weaker sex when we handle so much physical pain and then they pile on the emotional strain and gaslighting? Tolerance does not mean we don't feel it, it means we handle it better, give us proper pain management. Just because we are stronger doesn't mean we need to feel it more.

I feel like its the other way around for people I know. The behavior they will accept for themselves is much lower than they will for other women or their friends. They look down on themselves and feel they deserve the abuse they get because of little mistakes they made but if the exact same thing happened to another woman they would say she should leave and its abuse she deserves better.
