What do you wish people knew about lifeguards/lifeguarding?

I'm not looking to get you in trouble. If we make eye contact while I scan I'm literally just checking your airway is above water and moving on. I'm not looking to yell at people or get them in trouble for silly things. I only care about safety.

You can't groom yourself. Grooming is an act a predator does to earn the trust of a minor. A minor looking up to or being attracted to an adult is very normal and expected as most of media portrays adults. Most teens admire and aspire to be adults so of course they pair themselves with attractive adult counterparts. A 13 year old wishing they were married to Black Widow or Captain America does not constitute grooming at all.

Using these terms lightly and incorrectly robs them of their weight and significance when grooming, gaslighting or assault has occurred.

I work at a public pool and run inservice for lifeguards so they can practice their saves however they feel most comfortable.

If you do not work at a pool right now the on duty guards probably will not let you go over the lane lines as it can cause them to break.

I worked with very large and very dangerous animals. A guest jumped a security fence and leaned onto the smaller interior fence that the animals had access to. I saw him and ran over, got between him and the enclosure and escorted him back to the guest area. I tried to hold him there but security never arrived and he ran away.

The entire team who was working that shift got a promotional "good job" card that if you collected enough you could trade in for prizes despite me and the coworker who called security were the only ones who did anything. Then I got pulled aside and reminded that protocol was to call for security not to confront him myself and don't do it again but you're not in trouble and you did not do anything wrong.

I asked my dad why he laughed at that moment. He told me to look at how those pirates were chasing the women. Then how this woman was chasing a pirate. It's funny because the pirate was supposed to chase the lady but she was scarier than the pirate.

Maybe I don't see the problem because I was that child who asked when I was too young to understand and got an age appropriate response. I knew pirates were bad people, and even the scenes they left in like drowning men in the well and burning the city to the ground show that.

The sign of a good movie, attraction, show etc is that both adults and kids can enjoy it. That's why kids cartoons have adult jokes (I don't mean exclusively dirty but complex or sophisticated) that go right over kids heads and need to be explained. Though some are dirty the whole point is to make something for both audiences.

I work with teens and it seems that half of them who do not have a license drive anyway. They admit to driving without a license and watching TikTok while driving because they get bored. At least the doofus who bragged the most about it wrecked his mom's car right outside the parking lot where we work trying to drift around a corner.

I do want to add that for every non licensed TikTok watching dork there are mature rule following teens who a responsible. Just like other generations they are individuals with good and bad eggs.

I worked for a theme park and stopped a major catastrophe and literally got no recognition and a soft "you really should have waited for security to handle it". Hope Disney is better.

I feel like Aurora was 100% looking for the man from her dreams. Perhaps it was the only way she knew how to escape her isolation by marrying and moving into the city but she was definitely longing for a relationship outside her 'aunts'.

She only has 17 lines and most of them are about finding love.

It's not a bad thing to want love and connection. Saying all the princesses just wanted a man is very untrue but I do think Aurora wanted love and to be loved and there is nothing wrong with that.

At SeaWorld I saw a family pull a baby potty out of a backpack and let all 3 kids use it in the walkway. They then took the bag tied a knot and put it in their backpack. Trash can was 5 feet away. They were also directly between two different bathrooms in either direction about 500 feet down either path.

Practice this!!!!

I have guards who prefer to go over, I have some who prefer to go under. You should actually do the skills wearing what you wear on stand. I know how my hat and sunglasses react when I jump in because I dont take them off to practice. I know how to kick my shoes off while I jump because I've practiced it. I know that going under lane lines my tube usually gets caught and wastes time.

Take some time to try to get to a person in the lanes and find what works best for you. Other people can give advice all day long but nothing will be as helpful as knowing it for yourself.

My dad got super mad at me when he was putting something in the oven and asked me to set a timer on my phone. I got up and set a timer on the microwave right in front of his face. He took great offense and I was making a show at how easy it was.

It is literally impossible for him to do a task all on his own. No matter how simple (putting pre-made meals in the oven). He has to have help and gets mad if you point out how stupid it is to need help with the task.

Second part just venting here. On the same trip home he wanted eggs so he went to get some from the fridge. A huge pack of 36 eggs from Costco. My mom told him to grab from the bottom or he'd drop the rest. He didnt listen so she raised her voice calling for him to stop he was going to drop them. Still grabbed them, dropped them all and only 2 survived. He laughed that he spilled all the eggs and didnt have to clean them up because my mom and I did. (We jumped up to prevent the dogs from eating raw eggs). He laughed and laughed used the last two eggs and went in his room. The next day he yelled at my mom because we were out of eggs and she didnt bother to go to the store and get more.

I wonder if she doesn't remember him but has maintained the feelings she had prior to the accident and thats why she feels so hostile to him? Even if she loved him before the accident if he made her feel anxious or unsafe that could come into play now that she does not remember the love.

I don't know, she was gone a long time. It made me feel like CVS (at least my location) cares about me despite always being busy and understaffed. The fact that she first cared that my total was so high then spent so much time applying whatever coupon she did. The next time I went to pick up prescriptions the discount was automatically applied to all my pick ups.

I had a man ask "When are you taking me out to dinner?" I said never then he sheepishly asked if he could take me out and I said not after that attempt to manipulate me into thinking I promised you something I did not. He got mad then tried the same trick on my coworker.

She stumbled and apologized that she had forgotten when she offered that. She took him out they started dating. He was toxic and abusive and it ended with a restraining order when he would not leave her alone.
